Agreed, I mean, what do Polar Bears need with oil? Their paws are too big to push the gas pedal. And you ever seen one grip a steering wheel?? NO!

Ahh consumerism at its best. Give me now and screw the consequences. Didn't we learn anything from Captain Planet and the Planeteers?! GO PLANET!

About dang time the democratic process was subjugated using a parliamentary rule that may not even be legal.
No matter where you come down on this one, it wasn't done right.

Meh, Canada's oil industry is too freakin' huge for me to consider Alaska something special. Besides, last I heard the caribou actually like the warm pipes.
As for the way it was done, nothing new. Both parties have used that trick many times over and I think I remember reading something about the British using it too.

Wah wah! My gas costs too much! Wah! Let's kill some animals so we don't have to pay as much! What do we need nature for when we have cars? I mean, it's not like there's many humans that go there, so what does it matter?

I say we pump it all out as quickly as possible. Not for cheaper gas or anything like that. The sooner we run out of oil, the sooner we'll be forced to find an alternative to it... and the sooner the entire Middle East, and all it's problems, becomes a non factor.

Always trying to add more political fuel to the fire, here's the latest update from the Senate curtesy of CNN:

EDIT:
Ok, I decided to actually comment. The whole process has been BS from the start. In an effort by Republicans to finally get it passed they tacked it on to the bill for Defense Spending! Best part of all is that most Alaskans actually want to see the bill passed since every year they get money back from taxes due to oil sales. Really though, the amount of oil and bickering is stupid. If half this amount of energy was spent on alternate fuels, the problem would be solved by now. Most importanly how ever the gas problem in America is NOT related to the amount of oil available, rather the cost of refinement since the number of facilites has been decressing since the 90s. Alaska is a drop in the bucket, but eventually someone will be determined to make money off of it at the tax payers expense.
