Bah! I can't find the thread discussing Christmas trees so I'm sticking this here:

Well if you take care of the real tree you won't have a problem. I've had real trees for years and its never been an issue.

Yeah true, I'll go and jinx myself. Actually this year I have a little fiber optic tree and I make sure to unplug it.

This was staged, but it does illustrate a point.
I'm willing to bet the tree was fully dried: Not really watered. Of course a dry tree is going to go up like a roman candle. But yes... a dried tree, with a fire in the lower branches, can spread like wildfire.

Heh. I bet a watered tree goes up only fractionally slower. Pine resin being quite combustable and all.
