View Full Version : Problems Running In Safe Mode...or getting there at least..

As some of you know..I've been having issues with a Computer Virus/Spyware that has been plaguing my computer all week. (Check the Furious S.O.B. Thread in the spam forums)
And we've tried everything that we know of to fix the issue. All of the programs that we are using have asked us to restart the computer in Safe Mode to delete the problem manually...however the virus or whatever it is isn't allowing the computer to boot up in safe mode at all..
We can't go to run and do it that way because it has blocked off that route as well....
It looks like my only last line of defense is to restart my computer and set it back to factory default...
I hate people that make viruses just for the hell of it..

Best bet -- Get back into your comp normally (If you can, not sure the status of your progress with that machine), burn everything important you have to disc, reformat and start again...

I was afraid of that...and I was also afraid that the virus would attach itself to the programs..since it's copying itself all willy nilly..

Well reinstall your programs from scratch -- its more your docs, music, etc that you can't get off a disc elsewhere that you would want to retrieve from the HDD before wiping it out.

Maybe your not doing Safe Mode right?
hit F8 a ton while booting.
This sounds like a nasty virus! I'd say reformat.

I left the yahoo stuff in there cos according to your profile you use AIM & MSN and sometimes Yahoo has a tendency to install itself onto my machine even though I don't use it, so if you do then ignore those.

Can I delete these without being in safe mode? Because we figured out how to get to the command prompt screen. But we can't figure out the run code to get it to go into safe mode.... :(

Yep, you should be able to do so, but you may need to get into safemode to clear them out entirely should they regenerate.
