As for your sig, Wids, I'm totally keeping Pierre's quote! :D
It's not just humor. It's sophisticated, self-effacing, intellectual humor. At least that's what I tell myself. :D
The chibi's still cute enough, Revenger, but I totally have to give it up for Quake's shoe kitty. Four paws up! :loveme:

It's odd... I have read from varous sources that both a) Frankenstein's monster had no given name, and b) Frankenstein's monster's name was Adam. So I'm not sure which is true.
I guess I should just read the damn novel one of these years. :P
Krypto

I've read the novel, and I believe he only only called it "the monster". It wasn't given a name.
The Widowed
02-08-2006, 07:26 AM
Frankenstein's monster isn't actually called Adam in Shelley's book. However, contemporary literary circles typically refer to him as Adam, whether out of a desire for conciseness or as a more subtle and lingering means of underscoring Victor Frankenstein's crime against nature: He created the patchwork man by trampling divine providence and playing God, in a twisted parallel to God creating Adam. And Victor would have created his own Eve too, if he hadn't suddenly grown a conscience about it....
It's just more of that fancy stuff I picked up in college literature courses. Don't lose any sleep over the Adam reference, now. ;)

(Winnowing Abby)
Looks nice, but the smallest text is a bit hard to read.
Oh. I guess the quotes can be a bit hard to read for smaller resolutions. Sorry about that. Let's see....
Winnowing Abby: "On Praetorian Earth, I believed in the sins of the father. If a father sinned, his children paid the price. And I haven't changed much."
Bloodywedd: "We're born into this world naked, screaming and smeared with blood. Why should the fun stop there?"
Eve Mk.III: "I was named for that first woman, crafted by a divine hand. Ironic, isn't it, that I should be less like Eve of Eden and more like Adam Frankenstein?"
The Diabolilac: "Only weeds and thorns will grow from poisoned earth."
Mary O'Knickers: "With a fool no hour spend, lest you be counted as his friend."
Pierre Ladron: "Ignorant? Ha! I do not know the meaning of the word!"
Valkyrdottir: "If Valhalla wants me, let them come and take me. Until that day, let me fight for their glory!"
The Widowed: "I still feel the weight of his ghost on my shoulders. Is this their penance to serve, or my own?"
Xerviakk the Raider: "The strongest of our foes resist and die. The meek ones left over make for a much weaker slave race. Such is the plight of conquerors."
I'm so glad that I was able to come up with all of those quotes all by myself (save for Bloodywedd and Mary, but even those were paraphrased rather than quoted verbatim). But really, are they that hard to read? Maybe I need to work on the contrast more.... :think:
How do you guys get the sigs to randomize like that?
It's all the magic of .PHP files. :)
If you have a website or image site which supports linking to .PHP file (Geocities does, whether you use the free standard web site plan or you pay a monthly fee for one of the advanced sites like we do), you would go to the file manager (or equivalent) for your site and type all of the following:
<?php
header("Pragma: no-cache");
header("Cache-Control: no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0", false);
header("Expires: Sun, 18 May 1980 16:32:00 GMT"); //in the past
header("Last-Modified: " . gmdate("D, d M Y H:i:s") . " GMT");
srand((double)microtime()*1000000);
$f[] = "http://blah.blahblahblah.blah/YourFirstPic.blah";
$f[] = "http://blah.blahblahblah.blah/YourSecondPic.blah";
header("Location: " . $f[rand(1, count($f)) - 1]);
echo("For NS4");
?>
The yellow code must be entered exactly as it is. The green code points the rest of the code to your soon-to-be-randomized pics; Just copy the $f[] = ""; to match the number of pics and put each pic's URL between the quotes for its respective line. Then you save the file as a .PHP, exit the editor and link the .PHP file into your sig just as if it were a .JPG or any other pic. For example, my .PHP looks like this:
<?php
header("Pragma: no-cache");
header("Cache-Control: no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0", false);
header("Expires: Sun, 18 May 1980 16:32:00 GMT"); //in the past
header("Last-Modified: " . gmdate("D, d M Y H:i:s") . " GMT");
srand((double)microtime()*1000000);
$f[] = "http://signatures.tritonius.com/SigBloodywedd.jpg";
$f[] = "http://signatures.tritonius.com/SigEve.jpg";
$f[] = "http://signatures.tritonius.com/SigLilac.jpg";
$f[] = "http://signatures.tritonius.com/SigMary.jpg";
$f[] = "http://signatures.tritonius.com/SigPierre.jpg";
$f[] = "http://signatures.tritonius.com/SigValkyrdottir.jpg";
$f[] = "http://signatures.tritonius.com/SigWidowed.jpg";
$f[] = "http://signatures.tritonius.com/SigWinnowingAbby.jpg";
$f[] = "http://signatures.tritonius.com/SigXerviakk.jpg";
header("Location: " . $f[rand(1, count($f)) - 1]);
echo("For NS4");
?>
And no, you don't need to copy the colors. Just highlight what's on this page and mash Ctrl+C. :)
By the way changes are afoot. . .

Actually, I'm in 1280x1024 (It's a 17" LCD or it would be higher... :grr: ). I just couldn't read it because that found is kinda weird and blends in with the background in that one spot. It would probably help if you saved the imaged at a higher setting, JPEGs get a little spotty at lower settings.

Alright, I'm lost. I've copied your text above, I've downloaded a PHP editor, I've pasted your text into it, and saved it as a PHP file. Then, I've uploaded that file onto Geocities, and it STILL won't work. Maybe the free sites don't allow PHP hosting? I know my bravehost site doesn't.
Chris
The Widowed

The problem I've had in this is that I can't download a .PHP from the site where I created it; I get a random sig pic instead. So, after an experiment with Notepad, I've discovered that a .PHP file is really nothing more than a glorified .TXT file; All the .PHP extension does is designate a text-only file where the text is executable script.
So I was able to copy the script from my website, paste it into Notepad and save it as MR2.php, which works as it does here:
http://tritonius.com/CoH/MR2.php
Armed with that nugget of code, I tried to upload MR2.php to Imageshack, but Imageshack won't accept .PHP files (even though I still have 1305 image credits after paying $20 for my Imageshack account). So I tried uploading it to my free Geocities site, just like you did.
And now I see that while the paid Geocities sites can run .PHP script, the free Geocities sites don't. So there's our problem. :think:
We'll have to ask the other Gurus with rotating sigs which sites they use to host their .PHP files; I'm sure there are other options besides paying $2.48 a month for a Geocities Plus site. For now, feel free to link your sig to the MRsig.php copy on my site ( http://tritonius.com/CoH/MRsig.php ) until you can get a host of your own.
Don't worry; I pay $12 a month for my Geocities Small Business account and it has a monthly transfer limit of 200,000 megabytes. One .PHP file (which eats up one puny kilobyte of memory, if even that) isn't going to kill my site. ;)

You can actually host the images on any site that allows direct linking. (Photobucket, Imageshack, etc.) You just include that link in the php file. It doesn't have to be at the same place as the file.

Ok, I just registered there with a different email address. It DOES send a random username and password. However, it went straight into the spam folder, so make sure to check all of your spam filters. (If it's website based email especially check that one.)
(You can change the username and password later and creat a new subdomain once you login for the first time.)

Alas the file size restrictions for avatars on these boards(which is what I'm assuming he is wanting to shrink it to) is so small, that the animation will either be absurdly tiny or just plain horrible looking. I had a few animations that I tried to make fit here, but it just does not work well. He'd be better off making it as part of a sig. :|

As I've said elsewhere, the bottom text on that card hurts my eyes if I look at it too long. Other than that, good, but the AT bar is a little hard to make out. Also I think you should expand the height of the rest of our avatars so we can use those at full size. *wink*
Okay your sig leaves a bit to be desired. Its just words. No pictures. Your avatar is interesting. I take it that that is supposed to be Lord Ordre. It looks good. Is it an actual drawing or a manipulation? I like your characters in general. Just wish I could team with them more. Always seem to miss each other

One rule of aesthetics is that the size of the piece is neccesarily one of the most important factors in its appearance. :p
The trouble is that you've chosen a font and color against a background where it's hard to read unless you have a large enough area for us to parse it out. Up the contrast between the letters and the image, maybe by putting the image itself on a gray/sepia filter, and resizing it to look more pleasing to the eye.

I agree so much with your sig there Charon. Bring back the 5th Column Night Patriot wants to kick their collective ass for running over his right arm with a Panzer tank :D. Capt. Victory and Lt. Liberty would like to have a few acts of violence with them too.

Of course. I was in full-on Batpucky Malkavian Riddler mode when I wrote Bloodywedd's half. Remember the big schizo word puzzle message that Bloodywedd sent to Sebastian Kain and the USS? Yeah, I can make all kinds of weird-ass demented broken-brain-sounding ramblings when I put my mind to it. :D
I think I'll add the Halloween Rhapsody event to Bloodywedd's wiki while I'm at it. So what did you manage to interpret out of my sig, anyway? :)

Sheep blood keeps the Angel of Death away, not goat blood; Goat blood attracts demons. And you smear the sheep blood on the door itself. Have the Hebrews/Judeans/Jews/whatever taught you nothing? :P
