Try to run a defragmentation programm.... Perhaps this might speed up your PC.

Did you upgrade your windows version or anything?

For example, I have a clunky old dell, which I installed windows 2000 on, and it worked ok, but after like 2 years with the same install, it started not doing things, like running new driver executables, and installing new printers.

So I figure, hey, I've gotta reformat, may as well put XP on, so I do, and something with XP didn't jive with the old clunker, because it could not multitask. I could play mp3s, surf the net, and play COH before, now I can't even open a browser without my mp3s skipping, f'd up. And XP in general annoys me.

So I re-reformatted, putting a fresh install of 2000 back on, and it's all hunky dorey now.

If you didn't update versions, do you have the latest service packs?

Should be faster. Check for spyware, run a virus scan...oh and do a defrag, since it has been a few months...

Edit: I really need to look at the entire thread before answering / repeating everyone else's answers... :grr:

Call Dell (if it's free)

What file format did you put the reformatted drive in? NTFS?

Doubt anyone uses FAT anymore, NTFS has been the norm for a while...

Sure, but you might as well ask the simple questions to rule them out as a possibility.

True, true, I would say it's highly unlikely, Win2k and XP have been out for what....3-5 years now?
