View Full Version : Bringing The 5th Column Back?

So I was looking through the red-hot screenshot thread and saw a banner of the 5th on a building wall and pondered for a second, and thought to seek out our best modders, is there anyway to change the Council back into The 5th? They won't change by name, which I understand, but can we change them by appearance?
Just a thought. Let me know if this is even remotely doable.

You could replace the Council guys with the corresponding 5th models, but the names would stay the same. It would require a helluva lot of editing files, since it's not only the models, but crates, banners, computers, etc etc.
Theory yes, practically not really.

Yeah it's just a thought I had I wasn't sure how realistic it could be -- plus now that I'm thinking of it, everytime a new content patch came out it would probably overwrite half the files thus turning your new "5th Column" back into the Council. I guess i'll just have to create a 6th column character back on Liberty to feed my need...

actually patches don't overwrite mods, the textures/sounds/etc go in a seperate data folder which mimics the directory structure of the PIGG files, the patches don't care whats in that folder, but the game looks in there first.

Ooooh so this is a possibility....NICE!

I posted that picture. I'm not sure if it was suposed to be there or not because I still have the old RP Experence updater from The Cape's website. I use it for the map hack so I know were to go when I need to buy DO's and SO with my Alts and it get's rid of the forcefield sound.
I did ask the rest of the people in my team to see if they were looking at the same thing but I was ignored by some of them and the ones that did listen to me didn't know what I was talking about.
I really hope they do bring them back. I don't like the new guys, the best thing they have is the one robot that will combine with another one when it's low on power.

Combining robots are Malta. That's a totally different group to the council.

So I was fighting Vandal last night and seeing the Council Logo even though he was clearly dressed in 5th Column Black & Red was kind of depressing. I wish I knew more about mods I'd start replacing the Council with the 5th now.

And of course the 5th Column won for best villian group. Ironic, no?

All the more reason to bring them back in the game, even if only visually.

I've considered embarking on bringing the 5th column back, but it's just too big a task. What I wonder is if they've actually removed all of the old textures and models from the pigg files or if they might still be in there. I've never really bothered looking. :)
All I know is that between mob names, titles, missions, models, and textures, it would be an enormous task to make it happen and may wind up one that would need to be reconstructed with every major patch.
The council is just a very dry and boring faction, though. I miss the pure evil of the 5th column to fight. Fighting the 5th Column, I was fighting Nazis. Fighting the Council, it feels like fighting mall security guards or bad cops or something. Their backstory just isn't anywhere near as dauntingly impressive as Genocidic maniacs seeking world domnation. :grr:

Well I'm not so much concerned with the names as I am the look....the names would be way to hard to mod up...

Yeah, I agree with everyone wholeheartedly that the 5th column were the best villains in CoH, without a doubt. I think that bringing them back would be the coupe de grace on an already killer game :).

Cryptic already has plans to do that, so no need to mod it up anymore....not that you can mod anything anymore....damned edit checks.... :grumble:
