Yeah, the thread was moved to the Spam forum. It's the one about "So lame" or something like that.
I THINK the Superadine addict in question was trying to recover from the mistake (while trying to figure out where all the bullet holes had suddenly come from) but got the gong anyway.

I'm not defending anyone's name. What that person did was completely bannable. What pisses me off is the fact that no one here can just say "You are banned" and be done with it. They always have to add some asinine remark, some sneering comment, that makes them look as much like a dick as whoever was banned in the first place. Grow up people, seriously.

Ok, I'm officially confused as I got my Issue #11 today in the post.
I thought that the BlueKings Comic would be exchanged by the Top Cow one. That Blue King Studios would stop making the CoH comic.
But now I have the impression that the Top Cow comic is an additional comic, parallel to the Blue King one. Is this right?
Anyone know how much this comic is? Cause I would have to consider subsribing to both of them then (maybe)

I wish for War Witch, Apex, and Horus to remain part of the story in some aspect or another, even if just the occasional cameo. I dunno I was probably the only one here who got hooked on this story... everyone else seems to be praising Mark Waid and we've only seen a 10 page preview...not saying he won't do a good job, just giving credit to the original story cos I liked it....I just hope that they will still continue to go on the servers at random and find actual CoH folks to add, since that is insailably cool...

I thought it pretty much sucked, but considering that they had to wrap it up in a very short span of time, there were reasons for it.
And Apex managed to piss me off again. Was there ever any rhyme or reason to this character? Did they ever do any sort of thinking about this guy other than in making his costume? I mean really, logic isn't much to ask for, even in crazy comic book world.

His personality was okay, the point was that nothing about him made sense. Why was he a superhero? What drove him to be a superhero with no real powers? If he was really Hispanic, why was he so damn pale? (That kind of pisses me off because he just announced it one issue. "I am suddenly and inexplicably Hispanic, because of which, I CAN DANCE!" <tango tango tango>) And now, after all the training that enables him to stay on par with guys who shoot lasers from their eyes and coat their bodies in impenetrable granite, he suddenly abandons it for a completely different style of fighting?! (Yes, I realize there was a thematic reason for it, but damn if it wasn't a head-shaker of a logical decision.)

I liked the series too, even if it got on my nerves how one of the general underlying themes of the comic was "Natural Scrappers suck". I did not like how they handled Apex at all.
Oh, look. The Magic Blaster and the Peacebringer are blasting the crap out of Dr. Vahzilok. Apex actually got a Cobra Strike in. Good for him. Bring it home, Apex! Oh...his buddies beat him to it and drove Dr. V off. Oh, look. Now War Witch and Horus are rescuing him from the Carnies. Now he's with a bunch of escaped jurors with superpowers who are mauling the hell out of some giant Malta robots, and Apex is just hanging on them or getting thrown into some crates. Now War Witch just took a fatal faceplant and Apex is facing off with Requiem. And Requiem's giving Apex some lip for being a Natural Scrapper Martial Arts/Super Reflexes kind of guy. Oh, wait a minute...Apex just reverse-somersaulted out of Requiem's attack! We might actually have an upset here! Apex has been getting his ass kicked for the entire series; Could it be that he's about to lay the smackdown on Requiem and singlehandedly save the day, proving himself to the world in the process? Could it be that the power of vengeance is exactly what Apex needs to defeat an archvillain who by every right would outclass him otherwise? Wouldn't it just totally rock the world to have Requiem wipe out all these fancy superheroes who are armed with big, flashy special effects, only to have some scrappy, die-hard, fast-kicking costumed kung fu guy run up to Requiem and just completely belt the living crap out of that elitist Nazi Nictus ass?
...
Oh. Crap. He needed War Witch and her sword to kill him. So much for my high hopes.... :grr:

I dunno, I think your last line is the key, really. It's not that the authors have some kind of vendetta against natural scrappers; rather, Apex filled a literary role as the foil - you know the bumbling idiot type. It made sense to me, even though the run as a whole was definately lacking.

My biggest problem with the comic was that it seemed to be about a universe seperated from that in the game entierly. I would have rather seen a comic that followed the story in the game more, starting with completly new, 1st level characers going through Outbreak.
That, or more about the behind the sceens stuff we don't see in game, such as the Trial story.

Natural scrappers are hard to write. Whereas you may be able to kick a hole in a giant robot in COH, it breaks believability to do it visually in even a semi-realistic setting. Apex was never written well. He wasn't a martial arts master whose focus and technique gave him the power to destroy hard objects. He wasn't a vicious borderline sociopath who could out effort his enemies. He wasn't smart enough to outthink anyone. So when things got tough, his only recourse was to grab on and hold on for as long as possible.
It wasn't a vendetta against natural scrappers, it was a badly written character, the victim of a story that appeared to be developed from page to page, instead of with an overarcing plot line.

So... the new comics, are they going to start back at issue 1 or continue with lucky# 13?

They were newbie level heroes, end of the series he was only lvl 15, I'm sorry, but I have an MA scrapper at level 14 and he's not all that....I can agree with the comic on that end...
On the other hand, they're fighting heavy-hitters like Vanessa DeVore and her Carnies, the Paragon Protectors, Hercules and Zeus Class Titans, Nosferatu, Vandal and Requiem.
[Edit:] Apex is SL15. Widdy is SL36. And I'd be scared to death of pitting Widdy against Vanessa DeVore without the benefit of a good sidekicking. It kinda makes the whole newbie level angle a little bit hard to believe, you know? :eyebrow:

I forget who mentioned previously in these forums (or the OGaming ones, perhaps), but off the field you never really saw Apex do anything but sit around in his boxers and eat stuff. It seems like a Natural Scrapper in a comic book would at least get in some work-out time. But you never see Apex kicking pads or lifting weights in his off-time.
Maybe I'm just weird, but it seems like you shouldn't wait till you're staring down an angry mob of baddies before you start working on developing your style and form. How does the saying go? "The more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war"?
Do a jumping jack already, Apex. :grr:

Or maybe Apex was the only one that was level 15, and was sidekicked. (Remember him saying "I am not a sidekick!" Maybe he was protesting because Requiem hit too close to home. :D)
It could also be that Horus, as his Kheldian came into power, and War Witch, with her Coven behind her, were able to boost their levels from around 15, which would be logical for taking on Dr. Vahz and the others at the beginning, to the levels needed for the Carnies, Crey, and Requiem. It's not exactly in the game, but could be an explanation. Plus, notice in many of the later issues they were teamed with other heroes, who could have been higher than 15.

This is true about the sidekicking...as I noted in the edit I threw in back there. Sorry about the edit. :D
And Requiem did seem to have a way of tormenting people with the stuff they'd rather not have brought up--much less mocked--didn't he?

I still say Apex was a Tanker. He wasn't particularly skilled, and he was bulky, which could have afforded him some protection. (And would explain the constant eating) In fact, if they'd said his costume was armor, then I would DEFINATELY have said he was a Tanker.
Remember, Back Alley Brawler, who apparently was Apex's hero and even showed him a few pointers, is ALSO a Natural Invulnerability/Super Strength Tanker.

Where does it say what Hero type Back Alley Brawler is? I never read that anywhere.
But it seems to me like Apex was a Natural Martial Arts Scrapper; The Natural part of Apex was pointed out with a little two-panel chatter between him and Kindheart in the Jury Duty three-parter, and the Martial Arts part was suggested by little things like the "nerve strike" (Cobra Strike?) he landed on Dr. Vahzilok, his habit of kicking villains a lot and his two instances of "Gung Fu" dialogue with both Back Alley Brawler and Vandal in Issue #12.
And, of course, the Scrapper part was suggested simply because Martial Arts is a Scrapper power set, not a Tanker power set.
Well, that and Apex's last line in Issue #12. You know, the shot with the notorious Xanatos. :p

Hold on, let me look... I have a copy of the post on my comp, but I don't know if it's still on the official site.
Okay, go here (http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=2741128) and scroll down to a post by (wouldn't ya know) Boxhead. A few posts later, here (http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=2742818), Manticore corrects Boxhead with the now famous post in which he introduces Trick Arrow.

Ah, but at that time he was a BROADSWORD/Invulnerability Scrapper. :chuckle: Yeah, I know, you can't respec into another Power Set in the game, either, but I'm sure he wasn't wearing that sword on his back just for show.
Actually, I thought that was one of the coolest things about the ending. In a way, Apex has taken War Witch's power and combined it with his own.

On the other hand, we never actually see him wield the sword. Perhaps he was carrying it for show. Or perhaps he was carrying it in memoriam of his slain friend War Witch, in a manner similar to a Chinese man carrying the ashes of his dead mother around in a wooden box for a week or so. The sword was what she was best known by, wasn't it? (Me? I would have kept a few locks of her weirdly colored hair myself....)
He was a bit broken up when he suddenly found himself without War Witch and Horus. I guess he wasn't that attached to Horus, or he might have started wearing the Egyptian-style helmet too. :p

That was me. I have pretty much despised Apex for awhile now. Pretty much since he became Hispanic on what seemed like a whim.

Actually, no, I got the impression that he was REALLY attached to War Witch. Maybe not in a romantic manner, but really close to it.
But maybe that's just me. I'm hoping that if by chance he does show up in the new series, he still has the sword with him.

Back Alley Brawler is an Invulnerability/Energy Melee Tanker. That is how the designers made him. It doesn't take much, just look at the videos they've made. In each one, he's still got Energy Melee. Don't ask me why the Back Alley Brawler in Galaxy actually looks NOTHING like the real deal, though...

Well, in the "official" post (which was quoted by Boxhead) he's listed as Invulnerability/Super Strength. Since Manticore didn't correct it, I'm assuming that's still valid. But of course, they can make the graphics look like anything they want to in a demo.
You're right about him looking wrong in Galaxy City, though. Presumably he got they same kind of visual upgrade they use on Positron to make him a "Tron" lookalike. :D

Again, if it was wrong, Manticore WOULD have corrected it. He corrected plenty of them, so why would he ignore one?
And more importantly, who the heck cares?
