View Full Version : Sterling Saber gets promoted!

In recognition of Sterling Saber and all of his contributions to the ways and the welfare of Urban Bushido (including getting Azure Specter to fill in as contestant and referee for the last tournament ;) ), it has been decided that he is overdue for a promotion. Actually, I have been mulling it over for a month or three, but I finally got around to bouncing the idea off of Kurai (as Sonic Star) last night.

The problem is that there's a new ranking system with two more ranks; The five ranks have been customized in accordance with the style of Urban bushido, and the permissions and privileges for each rank have already been adjusted:

Hachidan
Godan
Shodan
Nikyu
Gokyu

Sterling Saber is presently of Shodan rank and he stands to go higher. The question is, just how far do Sonic and I promote him? He surely has done enough to be promoted, but has he served and aided Urban Bushido enough to skip Godan and go all the way to Hachidan?

Sonic and I disagreed with each other on this point, and that's fine; Civil debate does tend to bring groups together. Sure, it would be nice to have a third Hachidan around, and Frosty seems like enough of a level-headed sort for the job. And Frosty (usually as Saber) has joined in on most of the Urban Bushido functions and get-togethers in the past. But is it enough for Hachidan, or would Godan be sufficient to reflect his deeds and his temperament? Would Godan be too stingy of a promotion, or would Hachidan be too liberal?

We'll open this poll to everyone in Urban Bushido--from Gokyu to Hachidan--as well as outsiders who have teamed with us in the past and are familiar with us (ie. Krypto as Shining Phoenix). Put forth your arguments here--pro-Godan and/or pro-Hachidan--and by next Friday the poll will close and we'll have a decision.

In the meantime, I'm promoting Sterling Saber to Godan (unless Sonic Star beats me to it). Because he at least deserves that much. :D

Yeah, he REALLY does need (And deserve) The promotion, I mean comon, the guy was there for the founding, and we've been thinking of Promoting him from the time that Dog Fight was still around. (We were gonna promote him too but then he kinda left.) He Deserves whatever you guys want to give him.

Somehow, the turn-out for this poll has been less than fulfilling. Thank you for doing your part, Dione. :(

Well...you know me. I wasn't really going to vote. I'm very flattered by the idea to be sure though :)

So...I just took a commander position. I do think we should maybe get rid of some of the superlong time inactive alt types though...

Well, Dog Fight and Iron Pillar removed themselves a while back, and I had removed Alex Valcarde not long ago. It seems to me like a good guideline for removal is if somebody has been gone for more than three continuous months (90 days), though I sometimes wonder if trimming the dead weight really does us that much good with membership this low. Xiaolin Cowboy's next, unless he logs back on soon.... *casts a jaundiced eye to Masked Revenger* O_o

But I can give Saber that promotion just as soon as I catch him in-game. Just give me a holler. :)

I perfectly understand the removal as well, Wids. I wasn't exactly very active when my account was cancelled XD

As it stands, though, he's been deleted for now, will reroll him soon. Maybe out of SR and into something else. My main problem is, which one? SR did fit the best, sadly.

SR isn't a bad Scrapper Secondary, really. It's just not as good as the other three. It still does my heart good when an Archvillain like Nemesis?, Infernal or Battle Maiden take their shots at Widdy and miss more than once or twice. Even psychic powers don't have such a lasting effect when Practiced Brawler's purring away. :)

Besides, Cryptic might eventually pull their heads out and unnerf SR. Hope springs eternal.
