History:

Harriett M. Cromwall was born on September 16th, 1933 in Liverpool, England to Evelyn M. Cromwall. Sadly, her father, Franklin S. Cromwall past away two months before she was born. No other family members are documented. Harriett's mother was a very prominent figure in the occult community. A member of the illustrious witch coven The Third Eye and noted powerful sorceress, it was quite understood that Harriett would follow in her footsteps. However, Evelyn was completely ignorant to the fact that her daughter had no interest in witchcraft. In fact, she hated it. This of course was hard to see because of Harriett's shy personality and her very powerful natural skill. After all, how could someone so good at something not like it? So, when Harriett turned eighteen she and her mother set off for London to meet with Mistress Konara, leader of The Third Eye.

Because of Harriett's powerful natural skill she was not only admitted as an apprentice, but as the apprentice under Mistress Konara. This was an extreme honor. The two would delve deep into the arcane arts, very deep. Konara felt that Harriett was too skilled for the petty stuff they were teaching the other apprentices. Only the important would do. She would even invite Harriett over to her house to teach her some spells that weren't permitted on coven grounds. Harriett, knowing that these spells were against the rules, was now beginning to enjoy herself. These spells made her feel powerful. She liked that.

Time passed by quickly. Evelyn Cromwall had retired from the coven due to health reasons and returned to Liverpool to stay. Harriett was now twenty three and a full member of The Third Eye. Her powers were very potent now...perhaps more so then Mistress Konara. She could move things with her mind, control fire and even levitate. The other coven members grew weary of her. She wasn't quite the little girl she once was. She had changed. Complaints about her attitude reached Mistress Konara, but she did nothing. The two had become loyal friends and she felt like Harriett had a right to be rude. She was after all the best. They were just jealous.

In 1959 Evelyn Cromwall passed away. Harriett, who had grown apart from her mother over the years showed no emotion. She left the coven for the funeral and then returned the same day. The following night she held a meeting with all the members of the coven to announce her retirement. The only one disappointed was Mistress Konara. The reason she gave for her leaving was her mothers death. Which was a lie. In truth it was because she knew everything that The Third Eye could have taught her. She wanted to know more. Hugging only Konara and thanking her for the support she gathered her things and left, leaving behind wicked stares and comments. Two days after Harriett had departed, the The Third Eye's roof collapsed. taking all of it's members with it but one; Konara D. Rivers. There has been no logical explanation to the falling of the roof. Harriett has not had any contact with Konara since.

Harriett left London for New Orleans in 1962. She was pursued, unknowingly, by a man named Eugene D. Mac. Also known as Soothsayer. He approached Harriett at The Depth, a well known occult shop at the French Quarter, two days after her arrival in New Orleans. There was no way of telling how he found her, but, she didn't care! This was exactly the person she was looking for. Harriett spent three years with Soothsayer. he taught her things that couldn't be learned from books. The darkest of darkest magics...The Third Eye taught her how to control fire, now she could create it! She could change her image, create matter, talk to people using her mind, shield herself from harm, the possibilities were endless. Soothsayer and Gullveig were becoming increasingly close as well. He proposed the idea of them helping Statesman and the other heroes out against the Soviet Union as a duo. The two of them would be unstoppable! Harriett agreed. After a day of researching famous witches from the past, she came up with her alias. Gullveig was born.

Soothsayer and Gullveig fought alongside Statesman and the Freedom Phalanx until Soothsayer was killed by a Soviet "hero" in 1965. Gullveig, after obliterating the man that killed her love, tried to use all of her powers to save Soothsayer from certain death. But, it was no use. Gullveig would never be the same again. After killing hundreds of Soviet Heroes, and any other Hero that got in the way of her destruction, she left the war, leaving Statesman and the other heroes to fight for themselves and returned to New Orleans. For years Gullveig studied every talisman, book, spell, relic...obsessed with the idea of one day bringing Soothsayer back . Thirty six years would pass before Gullveig finally would discover the one and only way to summon Soothsayer. The Amulet of Hades. The amulet was ironically located in a small occult shop named A Gypsy's Secrets in Galaxy City.

Arriving at Galaxy City on July 15th, 2001; Gullveig quickly made her way to the shop. On entering, the husband and wife who owned the store, (also adept witches) sensed Gullveig's power hungry and obsessive nature and refused to sell her the ancient artifact. She pleaded with them but to no avail. This was a mistake on their part. Using her most darkest powers, Gullveig hurled blasts of black energy towards the two shop keepers. A duel of the arts began. The adepts fought back, shielding themselves from harm and returning fire. Although these two sorcerers were quite skilled, it wasn't nearly enough to phase Gullveig. Her eyes were now radiating pure darkness as she said out loud an incantation that projected dark webs from her hands that engulfed the wizard duo. The fight was over. The two shop keepers lay trapped on the floor. Smiling to herself Gullveig took the amulet and began to hastily make her exit. When Gullveig left the shop she became aware of the destruction the magical battle had caused. Paranoia kicked in. Heroes were surely near. She was right.

As she made her way into a dark nearby alley she saw three figures standing their. This was The Bone Squad. "Let's rock 'n' roll!" one of them yelled as they assailed upon her. Being that there was no where to run; Gullveig had no choice but to fight. But, before she could act one of them released shards of ice freezing her feet in place. Good thing she didn't need her feet. Facing a figure with eyes glowing green, she whispered an incantation and sent him flying into the wall behind him. She searched for the other two only to find one. He was coming towards her at very fast speed shooting missiles of ice. Pausing for a second to gain her concentration, she pointed her hand in his direction and released a enormous blast of dark energy that deflected the incoming missiles and also hit the attacker bringing him to his knees . Gullveig laughed victoriously. But, it was Gullveig's ego that would be her down fall. The third enemy jumped directly in front of her from on top of the alley and easily took the Amulet of Hades from her hands. Before she knew what had happened he dropped the amulet on the floor and crushed it with his staff. He laughed, lifted her up by the neck (breaking the ice on her feet that was holding her in place) and threw her to the ground. This was a fight Gullveig knew she could not win. All three of her enemies were now back on their feet ready to fight. Angrily, Gullveig lifted her left hand above her head sending a wave of intense bright light through the alley blinding her enemies for a brief period. "We will meet again!" she screamed. And with that, she was gone.

Although Gullveig escaped with her life she lost the one thing she wanted most; seeing Soothsayer again. The feeling of utter agony and hate that she had so long ago felt on the day she witnessed his murder had returned. However, this time it was here to stay. The transformation from good to evil was now complete. She was reborn. They will pay she thought. Everyone will pay!

Gullveig: Reborn

A voice.

She could hear a voice calling her...wanting her to leave. But, where was she to go? No answer.

Riley awoke. Another one of those dreams; she thought to herself. Slowly getting out of bed, she walked towards the bathroom, turned on the light and began to rinse her face with cold water. This was the third consecutive night that Riley had been awakened by this... voice. "What's going on?" she whispered in frustration.

Not being able to sleep was something Riley was not accustom to. Every night after a long hard day at the office she would put on her pajamas, curl up with a good book (Brave New World was her choice for the last few nights) and slowly drift into sleep only to be awoken by her alarm at 8 AM sharp. Obviously, these recent events weren't in the routine.

Patting her face with a dry wash cloth, she gazed at her reflection in the mirror. Tired, so tired. "Maybe I should go to the doctor I..." Riley paused.

It was the voice again. But it was stronger this time. More potent. It was whispering to her. Leave. Gradually the voice began grow in volume getting louder and louder until finally the voice was screaming in her head! LEAVE! LEAVE! LEAVE NOW!!! Riley was in complete shock. Her legs went numb and she fell to the floor. Images were now coming to her head. Some kind of room...hands bound by rope. Wait, were this images? No! She was looking out of the eyes of someone else! The pulling sensation had returned, however this time it jolted her out of her body. She was moving. Here the voice said. You belong here, you will be safe. She was falling now...into a strange engulfing sensation...then the feeling left as quickly as it arrived.

Riley opened her eyes. The room was very dark and illuminated only by a candle on a dresser across the room. Her arms and legs were bound tightly by thick rope to opposite ends of a bed and her mouth was covered with electrical tape. She struggled but it was of no use. The ropes were too tight and she felt weak. She was yelling: "Where am I? Someone please help!" Thirty minutes passed. Is this how it ends? She pondered silently. Her answer would come soon enough.

A door creaked open.

Foot steps.

Riley began to panic, her body wailed about. She spotted a robed figure coming towards her carrying something in it's hands. It stopped walking suddenly and stood stoic for about a minute; staring at her. The feeling of evil radiated from this person. She was unable to identify any physical features due to the fact that the figure was not only wearing a robe, but also had a black hood covering it's head and face. It began to speak: "Do you know what has occurred, Riley?" the figure said in a very low, familiar feminine voice. "Have you become aware of the change?"

"I don't know what you're talking about! Please, let me go, I beg of you!" Riley screamed. "Please!"

As the robed one came closer she pulled the hood from her face and displayed the impossible. There, standing in front of Riley was...herself. The same jet black hair...the same voice...lips...skin. It was her; every inch. "Who are you? What is this?! Tears began to fall from her eyes.

"Obviously, you didn't know the answer to my question. Let me make it more clear to you." Her hand flicked on a light switch. The room they were in was small, but very exquisite. The walls were painted black with beautiful pieces of of artwork displayed on them. Medieval relics and antiques were placed all throughout the room. Riley, at first, did not understand why this...person had turned on the lights. The answer was revealed when she took a look at her body. Something was different.Very different. Not mine. She thought. This body is not mine!

The impostor gave Riley a simple nod.

"You are correct. The body that you are in once belonged to me. Now, it is yours---just like your old body now is mine. But, I'm sorry to inform you that it is fading rapidly. It's run out of steam and I had no other choice then to abandon it. I'm not exactly thrilled that in order for me to survive you must perish; but is has to be done. Don't worry though my dear, I have used some of my powers to numb all the pain. You won't feel a thing...least I can do."

With that said, she pulled the hood over her face, placed a book on the bed, took one last look at her old body and left the room. Riley tried to plead, but she found she could not speak. Struggling until her arms were to weak to struggle anymore, she took a look at the book that was placed on the bed... Brave New World.

To be continued...
