I know most of you dont like Superman but...

http://www.supermanhomepage.com/images/superman-returns1/superman-costume2-tb.html

Mostly anyone who's known me for five minutes knows I'm a fan of the man in blue. I gotta admit. I can breath a sigh of releif. Altough I think the chest symbol should be a bit bigger over his chest. I think it's a pretty good new look for the movie. The design itself looks a lot like the Superman in the Hush comic series from Batman. The Red however looks a bit too brown. But that may be due to lighting.

As For Routh as Clark Kent. Another sigh of releif. He's almost a spitting image of Christopher Reeve. So for as the film being a sequal after the Third movie without the original it LOOKS to be in good hands. The acting and representation of the character is something I will have to wait and see. Since Brandon is virtually a newcomer to the screen.

I agree. The symbol could be bigger, the belt a bit higher, and the "red" a bit redder. But it looks ok to me. And Brandon does look the part. Yeah, I'm looking forward to this. :chuckle:

Here is what I dislike about old blues costume (contary to what soem belive I do like supes)

The red isnt red its maroonish red im not saying make it burn your retana red but make it red liek all hsi other incarnations.

symbol too small was expecting a more uptodate version of it, it looks remaniscant to his original 40's costume size

The boots arent high enough now they should go up higher

Belt while yes I know he wears a belt, should be higher on his waist not his lower pelvisand take the S buckle out

Make the "Breifs" go little higher on him so it dosent look like he is weatrign hip huggers.

Other than those tiny things i think its a nice work. cant waut for it. now if youll escuse me i have to go sneak to the local movie thearter and steal all the batman posters.

Eh, I can give or take. I want them to get all DC origin movies out of the way so we can get some Justice League or something..

The boots look kind of dumb, but otherwise it's pretty cool.

Is it just me or does Supes look kinda.... Chubby? :o

I don't like it. Looks like he's wearing plastic or body foam. Course the real test will be to see it in action. *shrug*

I agree with all of the changes suggested above, and think that the did a really great job of casting, as far as looks are concerned. I confess that I have NO idea who the actor is, so I'm not about to make a comment on whether or not I think he can act the part.

Mahaf and Graphite, I think that, if the material didn't appear so foamlike, and the belt was higher, he'd not look quite so physically 'soft'.

Looks fairly decent. I'm looking forward to the movie. Anyone else here watching Singer's video blog about the project?

I'd rather have a more "alien" look like in Lex Luthor: Man of Steel, but this is ok. Still a larger insignia, darker blue, brighter red, higher boots and removing the S from the belt would have been nice.

PS. Superman does NOT look chubby. This is way more realistic than the infamous Nippled Batman with foam muscles. :D

Those boots look SOOO stupid! :P

They could have picked a bulkier actor too, ya know. And I'm in agreement about the chest symbol, it should be a lot bigger.

Holding my opinions til after the release. Expectations, though, are leaning toward the positive. Now don't get me started on Ghost Rider...

If they had made his boots higher, his legs would have looked longer, giving him a more athlete look (which he would need). The belt is okay, I agree that the chest symbol would need to be bigger. The red definitely needs to be more red/crimson.
The actor per sé is okay. I would have prefered an older Supes, Alex Ross-like, but since they're retelling his story...okay. And I like how he looks as Clark.
And at least they didn't give him a George Clooney package... :chuckle:

I thought the pic was fine till I got down to the boots and I nearly started laughing. Anyway, I think I would have liked to see brighter reds and blues personally.

There is always the possibility that this is a prototype costume used for lighting and color tests. Directors have been known to get a costume made that isn't quite what ends up in the finished film to get an idea of how it will look when it's shot.

I also agree with all the above mentioned changes. The boots are definately not high enough and the shield should/needs to be bigger. Hopefully there is an official forum somewhere that other people are saying the same things and Bryan Singer reads those.

I have another complaint going back and looking at it. Anyone else notice the cape looks more like vinyl and not fabric? That was okay for Batman, but the cape should flow more and with vinyl I feel it's too stiff to get the classic image of Supes cape billowing in the wind.

I would rather have a competent actor that looks less than buff than a muscle head that can't act, but still, you think Superman could have done a few squats before filming? I shouldn't have bigger legs than Superman.

I dunno what it is, but that guy doesn't look like Superman to me. Maybe he isn't determined enough, or his hair has too much volume (or that little curly piece in the front of it looks a lot less $%&*ty in the comics), or his boots make him look like a chump, but that guy's not Steel enough to be the Man

The chest symbol really shoulda been made bigger. Everything else I can live with.

here's a bigger version of the pic in higher resolution. you can see the texture of the costume. I am a little disappointed myself. I would have loved to seen an Ultimate style version of the costume myself, like...

http://superman.ws/ultimate/

I'm sorry, but this is 2005, heroes don't wear their underpants on the outside of the costume.

Ah well, I actually don't hate the new costume. I like the texture and the smaller "nonpainted on" chest shield.

From the high resolution pic, the texture of the costume looks alot like the Spidey suit. Overall, I think the look is pretty good, it has a retro feel to it. I don't know about the actor though, his face just looks....off somehow. Maybe it's just the muscle padding under the suit that is making his face look smaller in comparasion or something.

i think i read somewhere that there was no "padding"... could be wrong though. imho, christopher reeves is/was damn near irreplaceable.

i'm glad that they found someone who was over 6' but i wish he'd have a little more meat on his bones. even though christopher reeves wasn't ripped like a body builder, he still had the broad shoulders and muscle mass to pull it off... this new guy looks like a calvin cline model...

new superman = metro-sexual ???

i'm just sayin'

I've grown to accept the suit. It doesn't look that bad.

If they made his red into maroon.. they should have used like a cobalt for his blue.. make his colors entirely more darker might make him look decent live action.. >>

Christpher Reeve wasn't very muscular either. It's all about the acting and the directing.

I'm personally very hopeful for this. Is there any superhero theme EVER that is more stirring then the Superman theme? :D

Heh. Anyone hear about how everyone is pissed about the actor here? According to the articles, this Superman is too "well endowed", and his manhood is too big for the screen. They're trying to brush it out before it hits theaters because they don't want it up on the screen. Funny stuff.

I thought it was the cod piece they kept monkeying around with. "The cod-piece for Superman's costume took a whole month to create. Wardrobe experts on the upcoming movie, Superman Returns, spent ages designing the Man of Steel's codpiece - because they wanted to make it the perfect shape and size. Costume designer Louise Mingenbach confessed to Empire magazine: "There was more discussion about Superman's package than anything else on the suit."

All I can think of is superdickery.com's synopsis of why Superman is a dick....
