So, I was just reviewing the old coldcut comic and realizing exactly how awful it was. Next issue will be better, I promise.

Ya know, I keep reading this trying to figure out if I should even keep doing this, or just plain teach myself to draw, and I can't for the life of me figure out what the quality level is. I see some very bad problems with it, and places where I would have added more shots, but I just have a hard time saying, "that's absolute crap," or "eh, it's alright."

From UNCUT Magazine, which arrived today, a quote from an article about the recording of Springsteen's BORN TO RUN.

He hurled one tape out of the window. "It was the worst piece of garbage I'd ever heard," he [Springsteen] snarled of even the final version. "We walked out of that studio and I wanted to kill somebody." He tried to force Columbia to scrap it and record the songs live at the Bottom Line club instead. It took [producer and Rolling Stone journalist Jon] Landau to ease him back into reality. "Look, you're not supposed to like it," he said. "You think Chuck Berry sits around listening to Maybellene? And when he does hear it, don't you think that he wishes a few things could be changed? Now come on. It's time to put the record out."

Or as Sondheim said, You have to move on.

Always good to remember when you're making art. You don't have to like it, just be ready to do the next thing.

Just something to keep in mind.

Thanks, Rand. That helped. Heard it before, but it always helps. I need a roman whispering it in my ear whenever I sit down to write. Or possibly a parrot. Maybe a latin speaking parrot.

Compromising with myself a bit here. I think I'm going to do an entirely different comic. I'll come back to the Furies; it has some interesting storylines in it, and I want to tell them at some point, but really, it started out as me being bored one night and creating a bunch of female characters on the same server. Not the most cohesive concept.

So anyways, the new book is the Evader. Not the red white blue and green Evader you may have been familiar with in previous coldcut incarnations, but an ex-thief who keeps getting sucked back into the game to clear fellow "villains." Really it's a lot like the "Tarnished Angel" TPB of Astro City. So, not the most original idea, I'd be fine if everyone stole from Kurt Busiek. The world might just be a better place.

Not that I think anyone finds this remotely interesting, but public declarations help galvanize me somewhat into doing things.

Always an excellent idea to have multiple projects to bounce around. Gives you something to do when you run up against a dead end or get burned out on one of 'em. At least, what's what the experts say. I'm not very good at finishing things, so.

I look forward to reading about the Evader. And Astro City is one of my favourite places in the comic book world, so that's good too.
