STEAM ENGINE: ILLOMENS
http://www.willphillips.org/coh/rp-illomens/steam-note.jpg
Random notes left in your mailbox are not the sort of thing you like to recieve as a hero in Paragon City. Kidnapped children, frail grandmothers, attractive wives and girlfriends; bomb threats; hate mail from citizens who find out your secret identity; death threats - the seemingly innocuous yellow index card comes in a number of mennacing varieties.
This fell into the death threat category, or so thought Emmauel McCormack, better known to the general populace of the Eastern Seaboard as the Indestructable Ramparteer as he glanced warily around his suburban neighborhood. Children were riding bicycles and tricycles in the street; expensive foreign sedans were being washed and waxed in driveways. In the glow of the distant War Walls, the world seemed to be at peace, but that didn't keep the business suit disguised super hero from worrying. In the corner of his eye he noticed his wife Christine in the garage, fetching some pork chops from the freezer.
"Hurry up and take those pork chops inside, hun. Make sure to clean up the guest room."
Clean up the guest room. The McCormacks had developed a series of half code, half slang cryptic phrases for use in public. This particular one referred to a very specific room in the house: the million dollar "safe room" that Emmanuel had some heroes help him build after a villain had managed to kidnap his wife when he was gone on the other side of the world.
The meaning was quite clear and understood impecabley in the fear in her eyes. Trouble was on its way.
To be continued...
