Well, since we have a thread on Ren Fairs, how about another type of gathering of nerds? The Anime Convention!
I'll be going to Otakon (http://www.otakon.com/) again this year. It's always a great convention to go to. The people are always into it and all of them are crazy. If you want to go this year, plan now. They capped the attendace because last year was just insane with the ammount of people.
How many of you also attend Anime Conventions? If your going to Otakon this year, please let me know! We should have a PC meet up!

Living close to San Dran, I've had the oppertunity to attend several around here. Sadly, thanks to my wife's insitance, we missed a convention at the Metrion for the complete waste that was Yaoicon. That was totally on my wife, and even SHE admits it sucked.
A large reason for attending the smaller cons.... the dealer room... is almost obselete thanks to the internet. The ability to order stuff online and have it shipped to you eliminates the need to wait for a convention and hope a dealer has what you want. These days I stick to the bigger cons, with corperate attendance, so that there's enough incentive to go.
On the plus side, for the multi-day ones, there's always the guilt free otaku hook-up, should you find an fellow fan of the opposite sex. The hotel on the last night of anime expo a few years back was a scary thing...

Oh!! Oh!!! I went to one last year and I dressed up in my Princess Mononoke cossy!! I won a contest too :D It was really fun and it was my first conn ever! Know what I spent most of the money I had for the conn on? Yep ART!! I'm a real life art whore...:) But it was so good to see it and I got a really good pic of Sesshumaru umm half naked...lol I got a really good piece of Inuyasha as a kid too, it's so kawaii!!!!! I wanna do it again someday! It was so much fun :D

I so thought this thread was going to explain things like that little drop of water or the cat mouth or maybe the thing where their face gets all scribbly.

The cat mouth represents mischiviousness, but I dont know how to accuratley explain the sweatdrop ^ ^; (<--correct ussage)
I went to this years and last years Megacon. I didn't dress up or anything, but there were a few cool costumes. Still gotta get that camera developed.....
Spent $120 :D

I'd go to one but someone's gotta make me a shirt that warns all the catgirls about me... sorta like a disclaimer endorsed by "The Collective" here :chuckle:

I think the sweatdrop is for when you're nervous/embarrassed/just want to use a sweatdrop.

Anime Characters will also put their hand behind their head when embarassed. The combination of sweatdrop and hand behind head is REALLY embarassed. :D
If "the face getting all scribbly" is what I think it is, then it's an "unreadable expression". The face disappears, so you can't read its expression. Usually, the character is either brooding, or about to go postal. Although sometimes it can mean mischief, too. (If unexpected)

The scribbly, swirly eyes also can mean confusion, or being dizzy/knocked out :)

Just wanted to bump this up to let everybody know that Otakon has started there Pre-Registration. There is only 20,000 spots left and you can't buy a single day pass because they put a cap on the amount of people that can enter the convention center. Last year was insane, I couldn't beleve the amount of people that were there.
So if you are thinking about going plan ahead! I hope to see some of you there.

(Off topic but it's a convention)
If your near Philly and your a fan of old Videogames you should check out Philly Classic (http://www.phillyclassic.com). My friends and I went there last year and it kicked ass. They had a ton of classic arcade games on free play and they had alot of dealer tables so it was like a huge swap meet. Can't wait for next years!
