View Full Version : Teaming up in the Brawl-for-All.

Two out of three possible event types for the Brawl-for-All (http://www.cohguru.com/forum/showthread.php?t=304) involve teams. The option that is leading the polls is the Team Battle Royale. Therefore, there is a distinct probability that the Brawl-for-All will involve teams. Therefore, we should be ready for this possibility.
To make things interesting, we will be splitting the Heroes up into as many as eight teams; Naturally, each team will require a leader, a Team Captain. I will have to be a Team Captain just to start the event (I call Green!), and Darknesse has already called Black. The remainder of the positions will be first come, first served.
If you wish to join any Captain or any team as a member, you can make your intentions known here. Of course, your Team Captain will be expecting you to show up Sunday night if you make such an announcement. If you say "I'm joining Darknesse and Team Black" and then fail to show up, we'll have to dig up a replacement and Darkie will be rather disappointed in you....
At this point, the Brawl-for-All will most likely be a Team Battle Royale. In this case, as much as I would like to host a Rated match, I'll probably have to add the maximum of three special rules:
Tactical Start: This rule is set in stone. Tactical Start begins everybody with zero Endurance and prevents Heroes from using Inspirations during the match. Why should we allow people to buy little pieces of victory from their contacts or down at the front desk for 50 Influence apiece? I myself have experienced the frustration and borderline infuriation of kicking a Tanker down to within an inch of his life only for him to pop a Resurgence, turn the tables and crush me by sheer volume of Health alone. Too bad the villains I fought weren't kind enough to give me a Resurgence too. Did you ever have some jerk do that to you too? Then you'll probably support my decision.
So yeah, Inspirations in PvP suck. I wish I could have the "No Inspirations" without the "Start with zero Endurance", but that's where the next rule comes in.
Max Endurance Recovery: This rule is set in stone. Max Recovery will offset the zero Endurance stipulation from Tactical Start. Therefore, it will give the victims of spawn-campers a chance to resist their assailants. Besides, what kind of match would we have if the whistle blew and everyone spent the first 30 seconds resting? Sorry, Electrical Blasters...I know you guys thrive on inflicting death by Endurance drain, which is cool--and Max Recovery's going to make that pretty much impossible--but I have to consider the greater good here. You'll just have to shut off that Scrapper's toggles by running up and punching him, just like everyone else does. ;)
No Stealth Powers: We'll hold off on this one and see what happens. My thinking is that in a Last Man Standing match, wouldn't it be so incredibly easy for a flying stealther to just fly into the rafters and hide up there until there was just one Hero left (beaten half to death, at that), then swoop down, annihilate her and win the match? That would be a pretty cheap victory, all right. And in the fog of war, what are the odds of a bunch of people who are trading blows with each other suddenly pausing and saying "Hey, I haven't seen Stealth Raptor for a while!" "Neither have I!" "Nor me!" "I bet he's hiding in the rafters! Let's get the Super Reflexes Scrappers to hunt him down and find him so we can all beat his cheating ass"? I'll tell you: Not likely.
But if everyone here's a big believer in the honor system, let me know and I can set up a yes/no poll for No Stealth. Not to mention that I fought an Electrical Blaster yesterday who tried to Stealth on Widdy, and I could see her and target her just fine. So I'm thinking that Cryptic added that Scrappers-can-see-Stealthers rule after all....
Anyway, the list. Jump in already, dammit.

First off, No Stealth powers is retarded. You're basically telling people "Sorry, but you've just wasted a power slot." You might as well turn off Travel powers for that matter. Elude is overpowered, am I going to tell you to NOT use it, because I'm tired of getting owned by SR Scrappers?
And secondly, as far as I know, Tactical Start does NOT disable inspirations.
Stealth powers are part of the game, just because you're mad that people stealth on you and beat you doesn't give any reason to disable them. It just means you're a sore loser. The same goes for Inspirations as well, you can use them too, so you shouldn't bitch about them.

I positively loathe how you make a "straw man" argument out of me and project random emotions onto me just so you can feed your own little complex. So you might as well create your own chink in my armor, huh?

You do have a good point there. Fear is still broken, and I wish there was a "No Fear" rule. I wonder if I should throw out another poll over this. On one hand, you have the match-tilting problems with damage, accuracy, healing and defense. On the other hand, purples and lavenders are the only way to keep the Controllers from completely dominating the rest of us. And then there's that Fear problem, too.
Decisions, decisions.

Yes there is.(someone hasn't looked over the blaster secondaries lately...)
Devices Secondary, Powers: Cloaking Device AND Smoke Grenade. These are both stealth powers. Why should I not be able to use TWO of my powers? I don't see anyone else giving up any of theirs.
Stealth is also a vital side function of Trip Mines and Time Bomb. So that's Two powers that are effectively deleted and two more that are crippled. Leave stealth in please.

Well, I wonder if "No Stealth" in the arena is intended just for the power pool, or if it applies to ALL stealth powers. It's something to look up, to say the least.
The Widowed
04-23-2005, 08:35 PM
That's a good question. When the Widowed fought Lady Moon Blood (the Electric Blaster I've mentioned before), Lady Moon Blood claimed that her build was stealth-oriented. But she never mentioned if that came from the Pool power or a Blaster secondary, and I didn't think to check her Info. And she would turn on a Stealth-like aura and come down from flying around the ceiling (because I was using the lab equipment as cover to avoid getting shot while coming around and closing the gap with her, so she would come down for a better angle). And Widdy could see and target Lady Moon Blood with no problem.
As a result, Widdy won the match.
And I've seen enemy Trip Mines in PvP before as well. So stealthers aren't a problem for Widdy. I'm more concerned for the people who can get hoodwinked by unscrupulous stealthers. And like a crazy prophet I'm still pointing to the guy who hides in the rafters until the end of the match. I used to play Last Man Standing matches in Unreal Tournament over the internet, and so many matches were won by the one guy who hides somewhere (like waaaaay up on the elevator tower in DM Phobos) and apparently keeps a written checklist by his computer, scratching off a name each time the computer announces "Such-and-such is OUT". Invariably, the sneak would come out when one guy was left. And when you have one or two lives left and here comes a cheap jerk with a full complement of ten lives, you'd better be channelling Rambo if you want to win that match....

Secondly, projecting random emotions at you? Little complex? Care to elaborate on that, because I personally find it very rude that you would be so quick to assume someone has a mental problem. What if I did?
As for your point in someone stealthing in a last man standing match. You don't honestly believe that someone here would be chicken enough to do that do you? I haven't even seen someone do that in a regular match.
Sound reasoning makes it harder to attack me, doesn't it?
No, you make yourself easy enough to attack. If you're going to tell someone that they cannot use a power, and that they basically just wasted a power slot, then they should be able to pick out a power of yours that you can't use.
Stealth is not just a power pool, for your information. Illusion for example, has 2 stealth powers in its primary. One of which benefits the entire group.
And finally, someone needs to eat their ****ing cheerios.

Stealth can be good or bad, I hate when someone stealths and spends the whole combat running away so I can't find them, on the other hand it can make for great surprise attacks.

"Tact is the art of making a point without making an enemy." --Howard W. Newton
I couldn't have said it better myself.
Secondly, projecting random emotions at you?
Like assuming that I wanted to toss Stealth out because some part of you decided that I had been trashed by a stealther before, and therefore--that same part of you concluded--I must be a sore loser.
Shows what you know. I've never been flattened by stealth before. The ones who flatten me are usually the ones who go toe to toe and take lots of damage as they deal lots of damage. And they're usually highly visible while they're doing it. Would I ban them if I could? No. Because they're never the types to hide until the end of a match.
Little complex? Care to elaborate on that, because I personally find it very rude that you would be so quick to assume someone has a mental problem. What if I did?
Oh, get over it.
You had already decided what I was and why I decided what I decided, evidence to the contrary be damned. You were turning me into one big straw man argument and ignoring the bits and pieces that didn't fit your predetermined view of me, a view which was apparently conceived the moment I even dared to suggest the removal of your beloved stealth. The next thing I know, I had been reduced to a baby-snatching, puppy-eating old hag and the Antichrist of stealth. Nevermind my intentions, I had suddenly become an enemy of your precious build, and you let me have it with both barrels.
And now you're acting all indignified and wounded since I dared to shoot back. Why, Heaven forbid, I wasn't dumbstruck or intimidated by your initial furious, foul-tempered, browbeating attack! But that's probably because I turned my inner child into a stew a long time ago, horrible monster that I am.
As for your point in someone stealthing in a last man standing match. You don't honestly believe that someone here would be chicken enough to do that do you? I haven't even seen someone do that in a regular match.
Most regular matches are duels. In duels, you're out to score the most kills within a certain time limit, therefore hiding in a corner is counterproductive.
No, you make yourself easy enough to attack. If you're going to tell someone that they cannot use a power, and that they basically just wasted a power slot, then they should be able to pick out a power of yours that you can't use.
Wasted? Just kill the melodrama, please.
The stealth only goes away for that match. Once the match ends, you're free to stealth all over the PvP matches which allow stealth. You're free to stealth through the usual assortment of "touch X many glowies" missions. You're free to stealth past herds of bosses. You're free to ruin screenshots because you're only half-visible. You still have stealth powers. If it was a big, huge, tragic loss, would Cryptic have included the No Stealth option?
By your logic, the SL50 guy who stands to have several of his powers grayed out because he has to join a lower weight class has the right to lay into me with the same loud, abrasive protests because they're his slots and by god, he ought to be able to use them to run roughshod over the little guys. "I worked hard for my EM Pulse and my Atomic Blast! Now you're going to tell me I can't use them to one-shot the SL25 guys out of their boots the moment they enter the room? Unfair!"
Oh, please. If you can't beat them on a level playing field, you shouldn't be fighting them at all.
Stealth is not just a power pool, for your information. Illusion for example, has 2 stealth powers in its primary. One of which benefits the entire group.
If Sally hadn't already already convinced me--and tactfully, at that--then I wouldn't rightly care where the stealth comes from. Whether your crutch is made of wood, aluminum or plastic, it's still a crutch.
And finally, someone needs to eat their ****ing cheerios.

Like assuming that I wanted to toss Stealth out because some part of you decided that I had been trashed by a stealther before, and therefore--that same part of you concluded--I must be a sore loser.
Well, there's got to be some reason for not wanting Stealth powers. And I was right as well. It might not have been City of Heroes, but you have had bad experiences with stealth/hiding etc. in other games, and I can't really blame you for feeling iffy about it.
and ignoring the bits and pieces that didn't fit your predetermined view of me, a view which was apparently conceived the moment I even dared to suggest the removal of your beloved stealth.
Predetermined view, eh? Nah, I really didn't give it too much thought. You seemed dead set against Stealth, and I disagreed. You can complain about it all you want, but it IS a tactic...cowardly, but smart. I know you've had bad experiences in the past regarding last man standing matches but I doubt people from PCity would use any of those pansy ass tactics. And most certainly not me, I'll be right in front mowing down anything that gets in my path.
And secondly, regarding my "beloved Stealth", I don't use Stealth. I don't have any powers in the Stealth power pool, and I don't even use the Stealth Temp Power. But you see, I don't even need to have Stealth to realize that the rule was dumb. It's no different than putting on no travel powers.
Nevermind my intentions, I had suddenly become an enemy of your precious build, and you let me have it with both barrels.
Again, you're not "an enemy of my precious build", I just happen to be a little *too* opinionated sometimes, and a little rude perhaps.
Hahaha, that one gave me a good chuckle. Do you honestly think I really take any of this seriously? No, I don't think you're a horrible monster, and I'm sorry that you've got whatever personal issues you got regarding your inner child, but keep in mind that I'm not trying to be an asshole here. I do apologize for being rude, I wasn't having the best day in the world and I felt like posting my feelings about no Stealth rules. Which was, in my opinion, retarded.
Wasted? Just kill the melodrama, please.
The stealth only goes away for that match. Once the match ends, you're free to stealth all over the PvP matches which allow stealth.
That may be so, but it's not right to say "I'm sorry, but you can't use that power because I think it's unfair." It gives the other players who didn't pick stealth an advantage, because they have an extra power or two than the ones with Stealth.
If Sally hadn't already already convinced me--and tactfully, at that--then I wouldn't rightly care where the stealth comes from. Whether your crutch is made of wood, aluminum or plastic, it's still a crutch.
So are you saying Stealth is a crutch? ALL of our defensive powers are crutches. I know I would certainly consider my Unstoppable to be a rather large, cushiony crutch with a cupholder, XM Radio, and an IPod player built in.
...and spinners.
By your logic, the SL50 guy who stands to have several of his powers grayed out because he has to join a lower weight class has the right to lay into me with the same loud, abrasive protests because they're his slots and by god, he ought to be able to use them to run roughshod over the little guys
Well see, there's an interesting point about this. For the Brawl For All, there is a *VERY* large spread in level ranges between our characters. Personally, I do think that it's lame that ALL of the higher level characters would have to cater to the lowest level character simply because it's "unfair" for them. Isn't it also unfair to have tactics and strategies thrown out the window, ones that we have spent lots of time on? Having to "wing it", and hope we have certain powers at that level isn't exactly my idea of fair.
Many sets are late-bloomers as well, and it can be very akward to be RSKed down to a level where you lack several critical powers.
And, I'm not saying that I'm totally against the RSKing, because I'm not. I'll RSK in a small team duel or fight to make it fair, but in a large scale event, I think it's wrong to have to bow down to a low level, even if everyone else is level 40+.

That first team match where everyone capped out at level 26 was really fun. The two matches that followed were ok. Though I did notice that with the level caps removed, I was much less effective.
The FFA was just plain absurd. The only person I could hit was Widdy and she is five levels below me. Anything close to my level and higher was almost unhittable and when I did hit, the damage was considerably less than "offensive juggernautish". The single biggest chunk of damage I did the whole match was when Frosty spawned right on top of a cluster of 6 trip mines I had laid out. The managed to drop his health by 1/4 :|

Well.. I've discovered that I suck at PVP.
First match went badly for me, cause the build I have basicly dictates "No, you may not hit anything without using invincible"
Second Match was worse, cause we had it set to one kill and your out, and that happened fast.
Third match was ok, I was 4th. (Unstoppable is crazy good for keeping me alive.)
4th Match, I actually seemed to help my team, which is great.
5th match, I did quite well, lasted about an hour, got a good number of kills in (Sorry Wid and Blue.....)

Krypto was scary? Cryo, you were scary! Three rows of holds that I couldn't escape or even evade! I mean, dang.
Well someone kept sniping me in the back whenever I attacked others.
top three in the free for all were
Krypto at like 13
Engine of Ruin at 10
and Cryogentic at 9
but I'm sure if the others stayed the score would of been a lot diffrent

That's actually a bug. The supression timer isn't working the way it is supposed to be right now, which sucks.
originally posted by Frost Sampsonand well I think I did pretty well against everyone with the exception of Krypto and Cryo, who were the only ones that could kill me.
Note that I could have done it with the Hand, but I switched to the Engine because it was more fun.. more of a challenge.
Although the time you stunned me and I taunted you about your wussy damage was kind of funny.

At the end, there was some talk about doing a level 5 cap fight. I think that sounds fun also

I did one of those with Hollis, Lamprey, Inkblaster and Krypto's Duo. That was really fun! 8 teams of 8. It was a blast. :D We definately need to do one of those.

there's only one problem with a lvl 5 cap fight... and that's you need money to stock up on all the controller resists, break frees and resistances, cause below lvl 5 controllers pwn.. trust me, as a tank, blaster, scrapper and defender who has been beat down by a same level controller....

I know they seem strong at that level, but if its 8 on 8 and I'm the only controller I don't think it will matter unless your team lets me slowly kill you

It was horrible....I felt like the Hulk being caged by the Invisible Woman.....except I flew around wondering why I could no longer clobber Rando....then....*sniff sniff*....he laughed at me....lots.....

I was stunned when I managed to hit you with Char. It took me a second to come to my senses and start shooting regular energy bolts at you. What made it funny was when you said something like "Well, isn't this lovely." just before your last hit point was eaten up. :chuckle:

That was pretty surprising actually...but I thought it was the combination of Cryo and her bazillion holds and Krypto attacking me....somehow in all that I didn't even notice that you were shooting me....at least if it's the time that I'm thinking about...

The first match was the indeed best. Of course, that was where I imposed the level cap and put everyone on a level playing field, a prospect which vexed Darknesse to no end. But really...if you're a bad-ass at Level 50, you should be a bad-ass at any security level. It's as much of what you have as it is of what you can do with it. Which is why I try to keep Widdy balanced and fairly well-rounded, and why I developed her respec level-by-level instead of going straight for the six-slots: Because I'm well aware that, whenever I want to join my lower level friends on a mission, I'll have to Exemplar. And the person to whom I exemplar can be any lower level. Therefore, Widdy should be effective at any SL, or at least she shouldn't be ineffective....
[/lecture]
I even managed to knock Darknesse out two or three times (once when his Health was still pretty high; Disorient is pretty nasty, isn't it?). He's my favorite evil-looking moo cow, as I let him know with the bull jokes and beef jokes I kept taunting him with. :D
We should do more Weight Class fights. With the Weight Class off, most of my fights were spent beating up Malibu Sally (which never got old, especially since she did manage to blast Widdy out of her socks once or twice). With the level cap, I even managed to hit Frosty a few times. Without the cap, forget it.

Ah, it looks like you caught that snapshot of Widdy after Frosty had gone to work on her. Again.
I wasn't aware that I had Warden as her title. I should change that back to "The Unyielding". Warden was just from when I took a pick-up team to the Ziggurat to earn everyone some Warden and Inmate badges, and I guess I forgot to change it back.
Thanks, Hollis. We had a lot of fun beating each other up, didn't we? :D

Really. I mean it. I wouldn't put cannibalism past that lunatic. Ever see "Silence of the Lambs"? She sat through it. Ten times. And took notes. In a cookbook. While muttering something about fava beans. >:]

So do I. :)
Lord Darknesse: L 6 Dark/Regen
Darknesse: L 26 Dark/SR Scrapper
Darknesse Hand: L 50 BS/Inv Scrapper
Engine Of Ruin: L 41 Fire/Energy Heavy Assault Scrapper
Lightchylde: L 23 Peacescrapper
Sin: L 20 Katana/Regen Scraptress
Sacrament: L 8 Warscrapper
Obsidian Judge: L 14 Spines/Dark Scrapper

You forgot Lord Darknesse--weighing in at SL6--and Sin, who's SL20. He just doesn't want to use them because he'd rather bulldoze the rest of us with his übers and pat himself on the back over it. In an Any Level match, of course. Which he will "lobby" for until he gets it.
Yeah, Dark. We know you well. :P
And what happened to Oppressor, anyway? Wasn't he in there somewhere?

I was the guy who kept saying stuff about an alt match. I see you've gotten my first match score of Zero captured for the world to see. Seriously though, without invincible, I can't hit anything. However, I think that maybe next time, we should at least have a cap where you have most of your powers, but not all of your "I Win" Powers, you know, like setting the cap at 31 or something.

And I got 6! Yay! I tied with Hollis for 5th place! Out of 11 people, that's not too bad.
