Rottweiler

I wanted to clarify few things about my character for the record after reading this post from the CoH:The Movie casting thread (http://www.cohguru.com/forum/showpost.php?p=3647&postcount=116)...

I dunno. I've always seen the Canine Crusader as more of a Batman-type, and I just cannot picture The Rock as Bruce Wayne. What about someone like Jeff Speakman? He's certainly athletic enough for the role. :)

No harm done, of course, but UGH with the Batman talk! /em wonders if Rottie will ever shake that?

Rottweiler/Stephen Clark is NOT Batman/Bruce Wayne.

The only similarities between the two are pointy-ish ears and they were born into wealth. (Actually, I've decided Stephen was adopted by his father right out of the nursery so there goes THAT similarity) Rottie is more Captain America sans the USA gimmick. Or Superman.

Faith, Honor, Truth, and Justice are his motivaters, so Dwayne wouldn't have to be 'Bruce Wayne,' per se, since Stephen isn't the brooding, disconnected, vengeful vigilante-type... just a truly caring man who wants to do all he can to make a difference in the world.

The Origin

Stephen was given up for adoption right from the nursery, adopted and raised by Phillip Clark, an international Adventure Capitalist. ("an entrepreneur who helps other entrepreneurs financially and often plays an active role in the company's operations such as by occupying a seat on the board of directors, etc." -fundingpost.com glossary)

He grew in young adulthood, learning from the best tutors and coaches money could buy, not having many friends except for the manor's hunting dogs (Rottweilers, naturally) and the servants' children.

His father became ill, limiting him in the last years of his life to conducting businesss from his bed. Stephen put his Harvard education on hold to tend to his dying father... learning his most valuable lessons in that short time -- learning about honor and truth and how to be a man. Stephen celebrated his father's life, instead of mourning his eventual passing, by liquidating a great deal of the inherited assests and giving back to the community. He held a few key investments (ventures in medical and technology R&D, etc.) and also started Clark Humanitarian, an organization devoted to rebuilding homes, schools, churches, hospitals, parks, shelters... but the darkness seemed more prevalent than the light he provided. With the help of a college friend, Dalton Greene, he created The Rottweiler identity and sacrificed his body (and possibly his soul, Stephen now wonders) toward the crusade against evil.

See, Dalton's grandfather was a lead scientist for Century Research, working on an enhancement treatment to slowly integrate animal traits into human DNA - the application of which could regenerate tissue, correct disabilities, even create the perfect metahuman specimen. The major stockholder of Century Research? Stephen Clark. So, with Dalton's medical and scientific know-how and Stephen's funding, The Rottweiler gained super-strength, agility and toughness, heightened senses, and a reputation for being a serious threat to the criminal element on the streets of Paragon City.

The funny thing? For better or worse, in-game and out, Rottie is seen in the same light as his namesake (http://www.canismajor.com/dog/rottweil.html#Temperament), people see him as another darketty vigilante ala Bats instead of the 'calm, confident, courageous and devoted protector of home and family.' In fact, Stephen seriously devotes his off-time (he requires 24 hours after each treatment for his body to heal) to spiritual enlightenment and study of Bushido.

Honor and respect, modesty and etiquette, valor and courage, patience and self-control, sincerity and candidness, simplicity and purity... the way of the warrior.
