Yeah, Mags went through surgery around the time Beta was going on. So she had about 2 or 3 weeks where she was at home playing everyday. Once she got better and went back to work her play time was cut down alot. I talked to her about 3 or 4 weeks after release but we lost touch after.

Anyway, the League of Titans is still around, and Steel Magnolia and Steerpike are still there too, although I think Steerpike is pretty busy with school and has another name over there. I'm not at all sure that the "Steele Magnolia" posting on the official forums is the real Maggy. I think it's someone else.

Red Tide had real life intervene I believe, I remember she popped in on a previous nostalgia thread last year.
I believe Opticon began to have some ailments and wasn't able to play as much, also got a bit bored.
MacAllen played for a little while, but I believe on the test server, I think Pinball may have been his character.
Banshee left for EQII, as well as Ketic, miss those two...

Adding one of my own, what happened to Phantom? His comic covers were the bomb.

Naw. She just felt unconfortable on a team where the guys spend most of their time admireing their reflections. :P As a school teacher, she had limited time to play and EQII played it's siren song. Curse it! *shakes fist*

League of Titans is still kicking, but it's not the original anymore. They had a mega merger with three other teams and named it The League of Titans.

Michi was one of the original members who left when the merger happened. I'm very happy with her new home though in Tempestria.

Elemento is very much still around in game. We chat almost every night.

Personally I miss Goldram/Bruenorbat. Most of you won't remember him but he was a member of the Bone Squad and he made action figures for some people on the orignal boards including me and Xanatos. He had some problems in RL and then seemed to drop off the face of the planet, he doesn't use his MSN, AIM or reply to emails anymore. *sigh* Hope that guy's ok.

Hey, I'm still here. I'm basically a lurker extraordinaire. Over on PCity.com I was/am "Blue Ox" (not "Metropolis1927"). But, even there, I hardly posted. Honestly, I often feel like I don't have a whole lot to contribute, so I just kinda lurk. RL has been... well... crappy as hell, in the last year. And there were just lots of times I have kind of been in a "self-exile" mood (if that makes any sense at all).

I am still in the game from time to time on Virtue (as Blue Ox - of the Irregulars, Earth Angel - formerly of the Children of the Elements, and Abigail Andrews- of the Honor Society). But I made the mistake of showing some RL friends the game and they became obsessed. I now have some other heroes on Champion where I have spent quite a bit of time recently with them.

One person I remember from the pre-beta boards is Rackboy. Though I never really had contact with him, I remember him well because he staunchly refused to reveal his character names/concepts because he didn't want anyone stealing them. To my knowledge, he maintained this stance even when everyone else started posting their characters. I have always wondered what he had in mind.

That was really great of that person! You know, I have to say that I am constantly impressed by the people that play this game. City of Heroes is my first MMORPG and before the game came out, I heard horror stories about the levels of childish, cruel and stupid behavior people exhibited in these games. Yes, I have seen some boneheaded stuff over the last year, but all-in-all I am just so amazed.

Kwik is still around only on Guardian server with the Concrete Gurus.

Btw. After the original leader of The Outsiders dropped out of the game, I took it over with my character Amalgamite. With only six members currently and no complaints for the last three years about the name, Cryptic has dumped on me.
I even picked two alternate names only to get them shoved right down, telling me they were inappropriate or related.
The alternates I picked were:'The Outsiders of Paragon' or 'The Paragon Outsiders'.

I checked the web and found out that DC only has the trademark to 'Batman and The Outsiders', NOT The Outsiders by itself or any of my alternate names.
They're just being pricky.
I have seen supergroups with borrowed comic names which I'm sure is also 'intellectual property' and they haven't gone after them.

My subscription ends on May 28th but since I haven't been in the game since March 26th, I guess I lost 63 days.

Getting back to the subject, I haven't seen Jeronimo, Spatula, The Slammer, Reena or her husband Phantom Knight, Smardius, Zealot, Volunteer, or Wavelength.

Blackstar dropped off after his altercation with Cryptic in beta.
With the Knights of Paragon, we have a few who just can't get to it yet because of real life issues though members like Warp9 or Sensei have left for RL issues.

The Slammer telled me a few months ago I think it was, just about the end of November if I remember (my sense of time could be skewed). He had a character in my team, Belle Dozer, he said that he'd be around but I certainly haven't seen him on since then.

Riot Grrl I know was in beta. However the player behind her is not speaking to the Gurus or anyone else that I know of. I last spoke to said person right before beta when we had a fight and quit talking.

If anyone remembers Boudicca, leader of the Amazones, she's on Virtue as well.

Horntail is focusing on his studies and musical career.
Jazz still plays on Virtue.

Yes I mentioned Irminsul but gave his character name Wavelength. I think because CoH wasn't readily that available to Europeans then, he dropped away. He was from the Netherlands.

CoH is still unavailable to some parts of the world. I know Jaffe lives in Trinidad and they can't get it yet.

He says life and recovery keep him busy (some of you might remember he is really ill), but mostly life. He has to keep his money together and though he played CoH after release for a bit, he couldn't afford it anymore. Since his brother plays WoW and MxO, Lost can be found there though (anyone interested in his char names/server?). He asked me to tell that he misses us all.

He says life and recovery keep him busy (some of you might remember he is really ill), but mostly life. He has to keep his money together and though he played CoH after release for a bit, he couldn't afford it anymore. Since his brother plays WoW and MxO, Lost can be found there though (anyone interested in his char names/server?). He asked me to tell that he misses us all.

I never went in for beta because I was going to college at the time and knew better than to place the temptation of CoH before me. I picked up CoH shortly after it came out and began plaing obsessively, eventually settling on Virtue server with Tigerseye as my main. I played quite a bit for *squintie thinking look* Ummm *smoke comming out of ears.* Ahh several months 5 or 6 then quit for 3 or 4 and just started playing again last month. I've re-rolled Tigerseye and my new main is Thunder Runner of the Justice Force (again on Virtue server) my global is @thunder runner if'n anyone wants to say hi.

Yea I still have Slipstream (still a lowly level10) but I have found I HATE *stabbing motion* Martial arts as a primary, and nothing else really fits the character concept (possibly a bubble defender but then I'd have to take a ranged secondary and the character never had any ranged attacks).

Heck I still have Boom my very first ever character concept (Rad/Enrg defender *shudder*)

Immortal is a knight with the Knights of Paragon where I as Icebreaker am an Elder Knight. He plays as Black, Figment, and Danny Fyre.

Dang a lot of surprises I have found out here. Sadly I have never been able to play City of Heroes or now the City of Villians. My computer meets all but the video card requirement. When my PC was built the person put in a very cheap video card in and although I have tried to replace it and have the guy who bulit it upgrade he was unable to. So I will just have to wait until the thing gives out and I have to buy a new one. I can't see buying a new one if all that is wrong is a video card as every thing else is working fine. Well there is room I believe 2-3 open PCI 32 slots for video cards. Its really weird but it dosent have any AGP slots at all. The one he put in is somehow integrated and I have tried to disable it cause I can't remove it. The thing is not about 5-6 years old so I my just think about investing in a new PC. However thanks for your help Iggy. Any ideas on how to make the new card work?

Mac was a huge supporter of the game and fought hard for it even ,as a mod on the official pre-beta forums, publicly taking on Jack after Rich Dakan left the dev team an jack took everything back to code...

Originally the game was supposed to be origin determined the number of powers you could get, more powers you had the weaker each was but the more variety you had to fight with (since enemies would have resistances and weaknesses that was a big part of balancing that setup)...So I could make a Captain America natural type with Super Strength, Regeneration and Super Jumping right off the bat and my primary job was to go out an save the world, no having to hit X level to get a new power, etc etc so no grind til 14 for a travel power etc etc...

Then Rich left under what most of us believe were not good terms and Jack took over and Cryptic went silent for several months then revealed the ATs/classes etc and many pre-beta board people left then and there. Mac stayed around eventually being de-throned as a mod (apparently by Jack) because he was vocal about not liking the decision to make ATs and also about Jacks explaination that they at Cryptic had tested the system an not felt it could be balanced well enough, w/o any public testing or any apparent efforts to balance it regardless of several dozen very reasonable ways to do so being posted by forumers after the AT announcement.

Anyway Mac basically got disgusted with it all and left.

Interesting side-note. I and several dozen people who openly agreed and sided with Macallen were all kept out of CoH beta til about 2 weeks before launch even though the invitations were based on time active in the forum community and most of us had been active for 2+ years (aka since the forums opened) and people with much less forum time were actually getting in before us...

Anyway, yeah I still wonder where Redbee and Bugbite went...I was in The Hive at launch then left when I made Powerhelm in game, saw Gnat who was a Hiver not long ago...

Well, you would start out with all of your powers, but they would be at a much weaker level. You wouldn't really be super strong, have super healing, and be able to super jump, you'd just be at about the level of human strength, be able to heal a little better, and maybe leap short buildings in a single bound. Over time, you'd develop your powers to their fullest, with Mutants being able to develop all the way, while Superior Humans couldn't really get much further than what I described.

Items were an additional complication, though. I'm not sure exactly how they were supposed to work, but I'm guessing you had to pick them up as you went along. You wouldn't exactly start with items, then they wouldn't really be items, would they? So a Superior Human or a Gadgetter could pick up a lot of different items that could supplement their powers with new abilities. Mutants, on the other hand, since they could develop their "natural" powers the fullest, wouldn't be able to use items at all.

It was interesting, but incredibly complex, and I'm not sure it could be balanced as easily as some of the beta folks thought it could be. I have thought, though, that it would be interesting if Statesman were to use his original system for Marvel Online's powers system. Then if it worked, all the naysayers would be vindicated, but if the system was a total failure, as he suspected, not only would he be proven right, but he'd be destroying City of Heroes' competition.

An evil thought, probably not true, but definately evil. :D

In an interview I did with Rick Dakan after CoH launched, he was pretty candid that he wasn't managing the production of CoH very well - he wasn't micromanaging enough from memory - and that things weren't getting done. So he accepted that part of his dismissal.

Let's also not forget that he was fired by his friends, Jack and Michael (and whoever else he knew), so that had to be difficult on all sides. He also hung around as a contractor doing more in-game writing until just after CoH launched, iirc.

From memory, MacAllen got booted out of beta for being rude to newbies who didn't read the READ THIS FIRST post. So it really wasn't a 'stalwart defender of CoH destroyed by powers-that-be' version of history there Powerhelm. Especially since MacAllen reportedly came back post launch under the username of Pinball.

Boxhead went to WoW. Don't know if he's still there.
