View Full Version : The Uranium Heist -- OOC

The Widowed

I had another big idea, and so I thought I'd try my hand at this....

Call this a roleplaying thread with the potential for PvP; We've all been getting along pretty well in the other threads, so I thought we could stand to mix it up a little. We're mostly reasonable adults here, right? ;)

But the gist of the story revolves around a truckload of uranium...if you want to get specific, Uranium 235 (and all the half-life that comes with it, so we're not talking about that wimpy "depleted uranium" junk). Having recovered the uranium from an illegal mining operation in the Northeast United States, the authorities are in the process of transporting the uranium to a shielded Federal containment facility in Virginia. But there's a lot of uranium in this shipment, and an alliance of supervillains has other plans for it....

As with the other OOC threads, this will be a good place to comment, critique or bounce ideas around. This first post can be used to chart who's who and which side they're on. If you think you're capable of running posts for multiple Heroes and/or Villains, well, go for it (and try not to do anything too crazy). Speak up and jump in.

I beleive U-235 is extraordinarily difficult to process and seperate from raw Uranium. That's probably beyond the scope or ability of any illegal outfit mining the stuff. Perhaps it has been confiscated from an illegal processing operation instead?

Also maybe make the material U-238. It's easier to obtain from the raw and is more effecient as a fissionable material.:)

The Widowed
09-13-2005, 03:33 AM
*kicks Sally in the smartypants*

It was a bunch of Pennsylvanian militia nutjobs with a "bathtub refinery" operation going. We'll chalk the specific isotope--if any--up to an intelligence error. For now, we assume that the majority of the uranium recovered was in ore form, as that stuff is indeed a pain to process...more intricate than just beating the dirt off the ore, anyway. :P

Villains: It's time to build a Do-It-Yourself Shielded, Defensible Compound! Bear in mind that Legersen is one of those places where the Feds keep highly hazardous contraband and other stuff which absolutely, positively must not fall into enemy hands. In this jam session, feel free to add little pieces onto Legersen. If you think Legersen should have a weather tower, add a weather tower. If you think there should be an unguarded access point in the decontamination chambers for some reason, add an unguarded access point to the decon chambers. Choose between noisy alarms (for scaring intruders away from the "touchy" stuff) and silent alarms (for stuff that's so touchy that they either want to catch you in the act and interrogate you, or make you "disappear" while there are no witnesses). Think there should be laser tripwires across the windows to the cafeteria? Add laser tripwires to the cafeteria windows...red laser, blue laser, invisible ultraviolet laser, go crazy. Just don't go too crazy; I doubt that Legersen would have a mile-wide batting cage. Of course, if your villain's a loon who merely thinks that he's looking at a mile-wide batting cage (leaving the possibility that it's a 500' wide dog kennel or something similar), well, that's a different story. The blueprints are somewhat vague, after all. We could even foist all kinds of nasty surprises on ourselves once we're at Legersen, like if a "chemical cistern" turns out to be a lab for the Government's latest Super Soldier project....

Heroes: You guys shouldn't be standing still either. The Feds are well aware that there have been information leaks about the location(s) of the confiscated uranium, and even after seeding the usual misinformation among popular media outlets they can assuredly expect trouble of the worst kind. Supervillains may (okay, will) make an attempt to steal the uranium, and supervillains are best combated with superheroes. Who calls you in? Who organizes you? What is the threat assessment? What are the plans for keeping the uranium from falling into the wrong hands? The details are best left to you, including your own additions to Legersen (additions which the villains may or may not be privy to). Do your roles justice.

Radical Dreamer
09-27-2005, 01:14 PM
Well I've played her a little lately but my time has been cut into because of the recent hurricanes. It wasn't that bad where I live but I'm in the real estate business and all the displaced families has caused a boom in the market which has led to 12 hour days to try and keep up with the extra work.

Plus I'm still adjusting to the invulnerability changes. It altered the whole feel of the set and I probably should do a respec trial because I already used my free one and it dosn't feel like I've done as good a job with it as I could have. I probably should have done more research. I'll get it eventually though.

Excellent idea, Joe could alert him to the heist after the other heroes already formed up to fight the threat. It could be the first time Slaphappy and Charon meet since the demise of Slaphappy's father's cult :)

Besides, Dr. Sinistar needs someone to play with. Maybe Noble's his polar opposite, eh?

Noble
10-10-2005, 03:48 AM
This could work out well enough. Noble isn't much of a fighter, despite his very resitant invulnerability and somewhat super strength, his brawling rating is like a 1, on a scale of 10. I'll have him more as a support character that would take on the minions, rather than someone to tackle the main bad guys, should a situation prove that to be most prudent.

Is the big fight going to occur while the Uranium is being stolen, or is going to last longer than that as to requiring the heroes to hunt down the villains?

Just wondering becuase I'll be basing Noble's introduction based on that, and he would be more of the kind of guy you call in after the Uranium would go missing. But I could adjust that for the purposes of this RP if that is your plan.

Druid
10-10-2005, 04:32 AM
well since the villains are becoming outnumbered... Whiptail could use some RP exercise.

Anyone mind a giant rat humanoid? He emits poisonous gas if he chooses. (Not Really a super power, but his is especially noxious. =P) and has a prehensile tail that is super strong. And he's a genius btw.

I'm trying to leave it fairly open-ended, but seeing as Legersen is a large holding facility, I'll be trying to steer the first encounter for soon after the villains make entry...sooner if one or more of the villains do something patently unwise ("Hey, guys! A hundred bucks says I can wipe out that guard tower with a boulder from here...."). I'm counting on all players involved to be reasonable enough to respect the enemy's capabilities and fair enough to concede when an enemy has thrown out a particularly clever, well-conceived or unexpected maneuver, rather than resorting to "All of your attacks bounce off of me and I stomp every last one of you, buh-bye." If Bloodywedd stands too close to the propane tanks and Alumette hurls a flame jet at the propane tanks, Bloodywedd's going to get hurt and at best she might be able to limp a hasty retreat, leaving a telltale trail of blood as she goes. Here's hoping everyone else can embrace the same mindset, eh?

So the villains will, of course, be planning a way of carting the uranium away once they've extracted it from Legersen; If they succeed in liberating the uranium, then the getaway is where the heroes should ideally catch up with them, before the villains have a chance to divvy up the uranium and steal away to parts unknown, leaving the threat of thermonuclear terrorism to lurk in the wings. If the heroes manage to repel the villains from Legersen, however, the National Guard loads the uranium onto the transport train and rolls on out of there; This would probably lead to a train robbery as the villains catch their breath and come back for Round Two, hoping to recover the uranium before it makes its way to Virginia, where it will promptly be stored in an unassailable top secret Federal facility and/or divided into oodles of smaller shipments to various nuclear power plants, processing facilities and Federally sanctioned physicist laboratories, at which point the prospect of snagging a thousand-pound heap of uranium in one convenient location will be lost. Were it not for the issues of accountability and cost-effectiveness, there would probably be dozens of trains leaving Legersen at various times in all directions.

Or maybe there will be anyway. Hmmm....

Just wondering becuase I'll be basing Noble's introduction based on that, and he would be more of the kind of guy you call in after the Uranium would go missing. But I could adjust that for the purposes of this RP if that is your plan.
If you didn't mind the delay in letting yourself join in, your idea would be perfectly acceptable. "Mr. Noble, sorry to be calling you in the middle of the night, but there's been an incident...."

If you would rather not wait, then perhaps Noble has already been called in as a consultant, seeing as he's an expert in both radioactive materials and supervillains. Perhaps the authorities are reasonably expecting trouble from superpowered criminals with over half a ton of uranium on their hands, or they may have already received a threat from supervillains intent on sinking their claws into the shipment. How to protect the uranium from villains and ensure that no radiation leaks occur even if a disaster takes place could be the problems that Noble has been entrusted with.

well since the villains are becoming outnumbered... Whiptail could use some RP exercise.

Anyone mind a giant rat humanoid? He emits poisonous gas if he chooses. (Not Really a super power, but his is especially noxious. =P) and has a prehensile tail that is super strong. And he's a genius btw.

Heh, sorry. Joe's character was the only one I could think to write correctly. Mostly because his character acts the exact same way I do in rl. Well minus the fact I don't blow things up.

Widowed, we need to have an rp with Bloodywedd, and my character Dementia. They're both mentally unstable. It'd be awesome!

The Widowed

I'm surprised Dementia hasn't made an appearance in the RP section. Or has she, and I just didn't notice? :)

Druid
10-17-2005, 10:12 PM
I'm still fleshing out the finer aspects of many of my villains. Trying to tweak personalities and what not. She has made an appearance in an rp I started a bit of in the villains section. But I haven't really gone forward with it. All she's done so far has been to free herself of Druidess and beat the crap out of Statesman. =D

On a side note, I finally figured out where my inspiration for Whiptail came from. If you have ever seen the TV show "Swat Kats" You'll remember a certain villain named Dr. Viper. He must have leaked into my subconcious because I hadn't seen that show since the early 90's. SO baisically Whiptail is my take on Dr. Viper.

Hey, it works for me. Rats as a Mastermind set would be nice. Imagine if you started off summoning regular swarms of rats, then moved up to giant rats for the second tier, then finally moved up to wererats or humanoid rats for the final tier. And all the while you're getting the usual assortment of upgrades...say, more rats, tougher rats, regenerating rats or rats with pestilent bites.

So let's pretend that that power set does exist. Now run with it. :D
