FINALLY got my brother to scan the image. I'm falling in love with the character more and more these days:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/BiggShuggs/khetradrawing.jpg

I really, really, really put some thought and time into this. I think this is the first piece I've done that I've gotten the hands right. A bit cartoonish, but they're going the right way. Heh. I'm a bit confused on some concepts on the costume. The belt I love. The symbol is the heiroglyphic for khet, the fire/flame present in the Underworld, so that has a purpose. The leg pads as you can see are different lengths. First go around it was too short, and before I could erase I had inked. So second go at it I made it longer. Still a little too sleek and slender, but I'm going to do a lot more skethes of the character until I get it right. He wears one of those back-robe things, and I wasn't sure to give him sandals, boots, or make him barefooted. He's from Egypt, so I was figuring the temperatures would not permit him to wear boots. Not sure yet.

Other things I was thinking about was adding chains; like he's eternally bound to the Underworld. Still have to do some research on Egyptian markings/tatoos. His upper body will be covered in them. Heh. I just hope SOME of this is available in CoV. I'll be hurt.

I like the left side of'em. The right side pants are something the Hulk would wear. And sandals for a guy with those muscles, well, it just doesn't look right. Also, there are gonna be plenty of chains in CoV, so if you wonna add that to your costume it'd probably work well in-game for ya.

Great start. I like were it's going. If you havent played God of War, rent it man, I think it will influence you even more.

Looks great. Good ideas. You should defininently pick up a copy of an antomy for the artist book. It helps a lot.

Crap. Link is broken, Kinetix, but is that the title of it? "Anatomy for the Artist"? If so I'll look it up. Thanks for the comments all, and I'll definitely check out Gods of War, Veik. I remember seeing the previews on TV and wanted to get it.

If you're looking for an anatomy book I highly recommend Drawing Cutting Edge Anatomy (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0823023982/qid=1124643002/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-8202706-7598341?v=glance&s=books&n=507846) by Christopher Hart.

But anyways, the concept is really cool, Thresh!

I just went to amazon and searched "anatomy for the artist"

What also helps, A LOT, is drawing from life. Draw a friend, draw an action figure, whatever.

This is going to sound awfully demanding, but I surgest you get God of War as quickly as you can, because A. It's a fantastic game and B. When you win the game you get access to a whole lot of concept art with like 14 different designs of Kratos, which might be able to aid you with any possible costume additions you want for Khet'Ra.

This is how I learned to draw beyond the head and neck. I'm an art major, so we have to take these kinds of classes. I've done a lot of gestures sketches, sketches of friends, etc. I've done landscaping and all kinds of other things. So I have to agree with you. This does help in learning how to properly place things.

I was an art major in College as well... some thing that is sort of cool about school... is while you have a chance, you have the opportunity to take advantage of a lot of things that you will rarely ever have a chance to do again after college... so take advantage of it. Life Drawing classes are invaluable! as awkward or uncomfortable as they seem to be in the beginning, they are a wonderful resource that and a great way to practice and learn. Even if it's not for a class, or a class has extra room and you have extra time, ask instructors to sit in classes... or if you have money and time, repeat (credit/non credit or audit) classes over and over again. Art school is cool, but there is no such thing as taking an art class and "mastering" it. :)

Also, I don't know if you do or not, but always have a sketch book and pencil/pen with you... any time you are not busy, draw, draw, draw... College provides another instant opportunity with people always around to draw. =) 30 second gesture drawing (where no sketch takes longer than 30 seconds) is a great skill building activity. Also as odd as it may sound (you may already know this from some of your classes) the stick figure is the most important life drawing tool... Gestures and accurate representation of the human body is most accurately depicted by a simple 3 or 4 lines.

If i had a choice in life, I'd be a permanent student... as there is never enough time in "real life" to draw and practice and learn all day.

edit: Oh and great character design so far! :chuckle: I like it.

Very well said, Lawmaker!

That's something that I didn't do during my freshman year. I drew, but only in class, and after class for assignments. Now that I'm all about getting things to look a little more realistic and professional I plan on doing just what you suggested. My schedule this semester is set up in a way that Mondays-Thursdays there is a seven hour break in between classes. PLENTY of time to sketch, doodle, and gesture, and I will be doing a lot of that. :)

Also, thanks for the references on the anatomy books! I ordered the one Istasi suggested. Read the reviews and I didn't see any negative comments about it, plus it was cheap and should be here tomorrow!

Off topic but.. did anyone notice how clean shaven Kratos is? Doesn't even seem to have armpit hair.. and if he does it's only under the arm on the left in that picture, and very little.. looks more like scratches. Plus he has that very neat beard... I wonder if he shaves with his blades.. o.O

That's some nice work. Two questions for you.
1. Do you know what AT he'll be?
2. Have you thought of an Egyptian SG?
I've been dying to make an Egyptian character. The options are so limited. Maybe with the animal head option I can give Khet'Ra a minion to command. :chaos:

Well:

1.) Fire/Fire Brute, but I'm not sure yet. I'll have to poke around all of the ATs to see which fire suits him best. =)

2.) No Egyptian SG. This is the kind of character that would join a small group of 5-6 other villians to achieve one master goal. So I'll be joining something small. Hopefully with a group of friends from here. :)

There used to be before beta on the old CoH forums but the leader was such a two faced egotist that the group fell apart. It was called The Lords of Justice.

Anyway if you need myth background, I'm your man. With my BA in comparative literature, I specialized in world mythologies. I still have the piece I did for that old group. Just let me know if I should add it to a post.
