View Full Version : Influence on the boards

I really enjoyed the economy system on original Pcity. I was wondering if we could bring it back. If I remember right it was called "Store Hack" made by 'Lesane' I believe.
For those new to the forum it was like this (All influence points are only points on the forum, not in game):
For posting a thread you got 10 influence points
For replying to a thread you get 5 Influence
I forget the amount but you also get points for people posting in a thread you created.
You could use this stored up influence to trade to others for artwork or buy cool stuff like: changing your username color, adding a title, adding a style to your title etc.
I'd really like if the Admins researched this. It was a very fun aspect of the boards and I can't see anythin but benefits.

Aaaah, didn't know it was a hack! I've been looking for this option forever in the regular Admin panel, but didn't find it, no surprise.
Okay, I'll look into it.

Yeah I'll go along with this, I'd love to see Board Inf return. However, would there be anyway in retrofitting it, since a lot of us have now posted nearly 1000 times here?

Okay, that was quick. Lesane never updated his hack, so it's only available for vBulletin2, we are running vBulletin3. Meaning, it's not compatible (confirmed). There are some copycat store hacks, but they're obviously buggy and insecure.
So sorry. No inf system. :(

D'oh. Does Lesane still exist? Or perhaps we have a budding board hacker in our ranks? NEVER GIVE UP HOPE! Hehe.

Wouldn't this lead to people just spamming the boards for influence?

No, we banned plenty of people for that if I remember. Or at least some, it has been to long since we had influence.

Which is why the spam forum didn't up your post count.

And still doesn't.

I really think we should look deeper into this. Try out new systems. Work the kinks out with developers.

It's not really feasible or even necessary to have influence anymore, almost everything we could do with it, we can do here for free and changing the colors, shapes and size of our names can't be done anymore, because they now represent "online occupation" such as Admin, Super Mod or Mod.

Damn, I could have totally sold my mods for uber influence!
Just kidding, of course.

If I may be allowed to give my unsolicited opinion, I don't really miss the board inf. system. :|

Yeah... I've managed to live a perfectly full life in-forum without it. Heck, aside from changes to our account, most folks would drop any sort of influence "price" they would have if the person did'nt have enough, or just do it for trade or something.
