Some people complimented me very nicely on my avatar, so I thought you might be interested in seeing the full-size image to start off with. This was a version of this character that was in a Champions game a few years ago.

I couldn't duplicate that look exactly with COH of course. So I took a few liberties and came up with the following.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v28/Logan_Darklighter/City%20of%20Heroes%20Screenshots/screenshot_2005-06-01-18-24-19.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v28/Logan_Darklighter/City%20of%20Heroes%20Screenshots/screenshot_2005-06-01-16-57-02.jpg
I couldn't get black gloves with white cuffs, and while I could approximate the "double button up the front" in a way with the leather top, it's not a jacket. And I needed something to seperate it from the bottom, so I made the white belt. This also helps because, although I thought of using the cargo pant thighs to match the multiple pockets on the original, it just really didn't look as good. So the tactical belt is where she keeps stuff rather than pockets. The shoulder pads were a pretty darn good match, all things considered. And the armored boots were damn near perfect. Face #7 works best, and REALLY works good now that we can tweak the proportions. I was tempted to go with the longest hair option, but this style has the forelocks in front that give her more of that "anime" hairstyle.

Looks really good, man. Nicely done!
If you've got more work, then we'd all love to see it.
And if you don't have more work and would like some, then we'd all love to request some! ;)
... including myself. ... :noteme:

How about something seriously old school? Believe it or not, this was the character idea Lora was originally based on. From an anime called Blue Sonnet. This is the title character. Sonnet herself was a superpowered cyborg AND a high powered esper. So imagine someone with physical abilities like Battle Angel Alita, but also abilities like being able to lift a tank with telekinesis or throw up a kinetic shield. Talk about a diverse powerset!

And now for something completely different...
Anybody remember Starblazers? If so, then you'll remember that incredible villain Desslok. One thing I noticed one time upon watching a marathon session of Starblazers with some friends, is that he always, and I mean, ALWAYS, has a breeze to billow his magnificent cape out at just the right moment. Even if he's standing on the deck of his ship IN SPACE. I also noticed that his cape clasp looked rather like a dial... and so, I present the following bit of silliness. :D

 Loving the Starblazers take. Someone definately knows a bit about some anime. Personal faves, out of curiousity? (although battle angel alita seems like a shoe in)

Here's one of a more recent vintage.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v28/Logan_Darklighter/My%20Artwork/ShionNys-72dpi.jpg
Her name is Shion Nys, and if you're interested in knowing more about her and her character, she figures prominently in Mike Surbrook's Kazei 5 (http://surbrook.devermore.net/kazei5/kazei5.html). Also check out the Kazei 5 PBEM game, linked at the bottom. She appears frequently in the posted game turns/stories there.
Wow that's awesome, and I love your style! I always say that CoH's never does the character justice. It always takes a 2D image of the character to get the full effect. She looks awesome, and I love the above one. Keep it up. :)
If you're taking requests let me know! :)

OOOOOLLLDDDD School...
I always loved that Voltron/Starblazers/Galaxy Express 999 style female face. :D
I'm an old Giant Robot fan from way back. Grandizer, Getter Robo, Danguard, all of them. Not to mention Battle of the Planets.

Not to turn this into an anime talk but JD have you ever checked out Dai-guard? It's one of my fave old school robo-ish animes that isn't old school :chuckle:

I think I've heard of it, but never seen it. I have seen Giant Robo, and, of course, The Big O, but that's really it.

OKay. I am re-organizing my photobucket album and came across this one. Not a City of Heroes Superhero style pic. But... how about pitting this against the Hess Megamech?
And, for those of you who appreciated the Starblazers riff from earlier, yes, the robot IS wielding a Wave Motion Rifle. Otherwise known as the VBFG 9000 (VERY BFG). :D

Why does it look like that rifle has a jet engine? It's a weapon AND transportation! :D

There's a "real" reason and a "story" reason why that is so.
The "story" reason is that you need that jet/rocket engine back there to help with recoil compensation.
The "real" reason is that it's more of that "joke" I was going for with the gun. He's weilding a cannibalized space battleship SPINAL MOUNT as a bazooka! Now how over the top cool is THAT? :D

I saw the gun and thought of the Argo from StarBlazers (aka Battleship Yamato). Very cool drawing. The details are wonderful!

Awesome, I loved Logan's Run!
Oh, I mean. Art, yes.
Love the wind dial and the robot. Vaguely eva-esque through the face, but much more robotic and less organic. And the gigantic cannibalised gun is just the kind of over-the-top touch that makes giant robot anime as fun as it is.

Ding-ding-ding-ding-ding! And we have a winna!! That was what I was shooting for exactly! The bow of the ship and the barrel of the gun are nearly identical. :D

Back to somewhat more superhero oriented art. This is my take on a battlesuited hero. I love Iron Man. I really do. But I sometimes have a hard time believing having jets only in the boots would allow you to fly properly. I get this mental image of Tony Stark lifting up into the air, only to cartwheel across the pavement like Buster on a bad day on a Mythbusters experiment.
I like the hardsuits from Bubblegum Crisis. Particularly Sylia's. With stabilizer wings and jet's in the back and at the tips of the wings and elsewhere for control. I was thinking also of how you get in and out of the suit. It's a little complicated to explain, but I actually thought of the way all the pieces moved in order for the suit wearer to get in and out of the thing.
I also jokingly refer to this as "Let's see how many different mecha and battlesuits I can steal from all at the same time." :D

I recognise a few! ;) Nice design. I like the wing things.
As a side note, for a while Iron Man did have similar wing-things sticking out of his shoulders that were all full of thrusters. They ditched that look for a more classic and streamlined Iron Man recently, though.

I like it alot, Your art really really amazes me! I think I see a gundam shield in there;)

08-19-2005, 03:19 PM
A-mazing! Quite a few animes come to mind seeing that. Gotta love the wings and the shield's a nice throwback to Gundam 0083 right? I've got models of a few bots from that series.
Logan_D
08-19-2005, 04:12 PM
Heh heh. The shield always seems to throw people. It's actually not from Gundam, but a somewhat obscure early 80's anime named L'Gaim. It's the title mecha's shield. The _shoulders_ are from Gundam though, with the vernier thrusters. Parts of the way the arms (Particularly the elbow joint) are articulated is from one of the aforementioned hardsuits. The backs of the forearms were taken from The Macross II Valkyries. Part of the chest plate is sort of a Gundam/Patlabor mix. The feet are sort of lifted from the Led Mirage from Five Star Stories. The "wings" are equal parts Bubblegum Crisis (Sylia's Hardsuit) and Dirty Pair (they had a grav backpack that had wings like that) And the whole thing _started_ as a Borgman suit!
Impact

It throws people because the GP-01 and 03 use one in Gundam 0083. I guess they must have 'borrowed' the design from L'Gaim :) I think the valkyries were the only thing I really liked about Macross II (you're talking about the movie right). Then again it's hard to go wrong with any transformable mechs (gotta love a cyclone!)

More superbabe goodness. This was a friend's character in another PBEM a few years back. If she was "translated" into City of Heroes she would be dead on for the Empathy Defender powerset with energy blast as a backup.
The background's kinda basic. I need to redo that someday.

Hmmm... I bet you could do a pretty close approximation of her outfit in CoH as is. Must check that out next time I get the chance.
