A Symbol of Life
Part I
A bright lamp was brought forth and aimed at the table, the light reflected harshly off of the slick surface; the light dimmed as a small infant was placed onto the table. Three figures clad in laboratory coats and facial masks moved througout the room, their attention focused on the young human before them.

"Damnit, if we lose this experiment Dexeris and Phillips will have our asses." The tallest of the scientists spoke up. "What went wrong?"
"We don't understand it, the life force experimentation was working perfectly within the pod." Said a female voice. "It's vitals didn't start to fall until after we removed it."
The taller one sighed, getting closer to the infant. "Ok, give me the needle... and pray we can wake this one up before he's gone."

The scientist on the other end of the room, closest to a counter topped with various vials nodded in agreement. Turning to the rack, he grabbed a needle along with a beaker and extracted the liquid from the container. With his eyes fixated on the needle, he watched the tube fill with a strange green substance. A loud thud behind the man caused him to spin around, his eyes widened at the sight of his coleagues on the floor. The female scientist had already collapsed while the other was on his knees gasping for air and clutching his throat. The objects held by the man slipped through his grasp, shattering against the tile floor. His eyes whitened instantaniously as his body fell limp and descended to the floor, his arms flailng frantically in what appeared to be an attempt to escape. His movement slowed and his breath shortened, until at last he ceased to be. A small cry emerged from the baby on the table.

---

A dark figure lying on his bed lept forward in fright, sucking in air heavily. Sweat glistened on his forehead as his green eyes glimmered in the darkness of the confined room. It was a dream, all it had ever been, all he ever wished it to be. He ran his fingers through his auburn hair as he moved to the edge of the matress; a sigh escaped his lips. A sudden knocking on the door disrupted his chain of thought as his curious gaze shifted to the entryway.
