Who else here loves with Kirkman's "Love Letter to the Superhero Genre", Invincible? It's action and fun packed with hell of a lot of ongoing subplots.
I just got the fourth TPB, "Head of the Class" and have to say, while it's nice to have a TPB with a more focused and emotional view, it's also nice to have some good old superhero fun along with the other stuff.
Plus Ryan Ottley is brilliant, I liked Cory Walker's drawings, but I love Ryan's (Wya's). Plus Bill Crabtree has improved by leaps and bounds.

Isn't Invincible such a wonderful book? For the first time in years, a new charcter that was created for a good old fashioned superhero book, not some deconstructionist CRAP.

Exactly, I think Kirkman once described it as "Modern Silver Age," which i find really fitting.
It does however contain some tragic stuff, which might be precieved as deconstructive, but I personally feel it's more realistic and less gritty than that.
"deconstructive" stuff (Spoiler! highlight below):
the most deconstructive thing about it, is probably when Mark's dad reveals, that he's there to enslave the planet. And Debbie's (Mark's mom)newfounded drinking problem, which is a result of the previous example.

Kirkman's currently penning the script to the movie.
It's a fantastic series. One of the few comics I've deigned to put on my elitist draw list. I love the irreverant humour, and the surprising twists and turns-- see Titan's most recent actions, for example. Very well-written.

Seeing as I only read the Trades, I assume the ending of the fourth one, is what you're refering to. Yeah that was really great, it was kind of hillarious seeing James Sime (owner of Isotope Comics, a prominate comic shop in San Fransisco, where there are also alcoholic beverages) have a role as the teleporting Isotope.

I picked up the first TPB for this one. Not really my cup of tea, but one thing broke me up about harder than anything else I've seen over the past few months:
Everytime I've read a preview of this thing I've wondered, what's up with the Dad's mustache? It was a horrible mustache. Doesn't exactly fit the costume or the superhero genre in general. So then, they show the dad's home planet and every single male has the exact same mustache and I died laughing.

Yeah that was a little joke, but the real reason Nolan had that mustache was because Cory Walker's (artist) and Robert Kirkman's (Writer) fathers both had them, so it was just something fatherly for them.
Personally I love the mustache. Here's a funny picture of Nolan and Mark (http://www.jaredbivens.com/fatherandson.jpg) (IT CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS!), that Ryan Ottley (the current artist) did a little while back.

i also mainly purchase, read tradepaperbacks. i'm not as patient as i used to be, waiting month to month for a story arc to resolve. i actually considered picking up the first Invincible tradepaperback, but was hesitant as i hadn't heard if it was worth it. sounds interesting, i think i'll have to pick it up on my next trip to the comicbook store...

I think that they are collecting the first few trades in a hardcover, you might want to pick that up.

Yeah the Hardcover is out in a month or two (I have it preordered). Even if I have the TPBs I'm getting this too.
(The Hardcover is 1-12, which are the first three trades, but the fourth one will be collected in a HC later.)

just picked up the first trade and i'm a fourth of the way into it. awesome writing so far. you can tell the writer knows that his readers are smart. So far the main character is re-acting pretty much the same way I would if I were in his shoes. Identifying with the main character is key, ask Stan Lee and why he made spiderman a skinny, teenage, fumbling, glasses wearing nerd. So far Mark seems to have a good head on his shoulders and it's got my interest so far...
thanks for the suggestion!

I picked up #0 for this this month, as I heard lots of good stuff about this comic. Gotta say, I like it, consiering it's just an introduction. I'm thinking about picking up the Hard Cover to catch myself up in full, but I think I'll be adding this to my regular monthly list.

Okay, so I splurged and picked up all four trades, and I got to say, this comic is AWSOME! I love it! I love the little details (like the fact that Immortal's wife is old enough to be everyone else's grandmother), and the characters are great.
Oh, and Atom Eve has to be the best super hero name ever! :chuckle:
Anyway, good old fashioned super-hero fun, it's great, if you're not reading it yet, go get it now!
