Ok....before anyone comes in with the 'booo that game is teh suxxor!! stay away pwn1!111!!1!' stuff.......I'm making this thread because I wanted to know what it was like from the people who play/have played it. There's threads on other games so I figured one on this would be ok.
So...what's it play like? What do you guys play? (I'm thinking I'd like either an Orc or Undead...more than likely a warrior) Like I said...I've just started looking into it recently and wanted some firsthand info other than what's on the site.

I dug it, it was a good game, I don't have the time/money to invest in it though so I'm sticking to CoH after many deliberations over "which MMO I was gonna stay with" due to the issue I had back in November...

Sorry, i had to. But, I played the sneak peaks on Fileplanet, and I just wasn't brought in. The combat was typical swords/shields style, the graphics were cartoony and didn't impress me, I had a hard time getting the chat down, and i hated the way my avatar looked... I know theres a good game in there somewhere, but i just couldn't find it.

As I'm still playing it I'm a little qualified here :D
It's hard to compare the two because they are very different games. I find WoW to be a very fun game, but for different reasons than I find CoH fun. The Races and classes are very diverse and interesting (just don't be Undead...too many "L337" doods :P). Depending on your playstyle you might want to go on a PvP server...though I wouldn't recommend it, too many smacktards. The communities on the RP servers are fairly mature though. And there is PvP on these servers as well but you basically choose when to flag yourself for battle.
I find the world of WoW to be more fun & interesting to explore than CoH, there is just simply "more to do" if you're into crafting & that stuff :D. I do miss the individuality from CoH though, in WoW you're simply another Troll mage, Night Elf Hunter etc...all that makes you any different is your gear. And if your gear is any good chances are everyone in your level range and class has it as well. But you're never in the same gear all that long as levelling is very fast paced (till around lev 50 or so), but getting your end game gear is an excersise in insanity.
As for the larger cons with WoW...all the servers are still having severe stability issues. Crashing is still fairly common (especially on weekends) and if 100+ people gather in one spot on any given server it's almost a guarenteed crash. Also the Dev communication and customer service leaves a lot to be desired.
Personnally I'd recommend you try it & see for yourself, it can be quite entertaining at times. Just keep in mind that it isn't nearly as casual friendly as everyone seems to think. Once you start to do instances some of them can take time investments of 2+ hours.
EDIT: To see what classes I play look at sig :D.

I have a lvl 45 night elf druid, a lvl 26 troll hunter and a bunch of meaningless alts in their teens.
I agree with pretty much everything 8 Ball said, just wanna add some things:
WoW is less repetitive, because there are lots of new things that keep you going all the time. The quests are definitely much more interesting and fun. Numerous times, if it wasnt for the ding fx, i wouldnt have even noticed that i filled the levelling bar, whereas in CoH i couldnt get my eyes off of it, since, lets be honest, its pretty much the only "carrot" in the game.
Overall there are many more diverse activities available, like tradeskills, exploring and better organized socializing.
Technically the graphics may be unimpressive, but they are most definitely pleasing for the eye, no doubt about that. Especially when you turn the "glow" effect on (think Prince of Persia).
As for what sucks about the game, like 8 Ball said, you look just like everyone else and unless you managed to nab some incredibly awesome item, theres nothing really special about you. Also, even though im playing on RP servers, theres hardly ever any rping actually going on. At lvl 45 i could probably count all my ic dialogues on one hand. The community is probably the worst thing about the game, just like everyone expected. Fortunately there are some guilds that serve as haven for more reasonable people.
As for what race you should play, well, as a warrior, youre going to get mezzed alot in pvp, and the undead have a racial trait that frees them from mezzes, so id recommend becoming an undead and moving to Ogrimmar (the orcish capital) as soon as you can. :)

WoW is really fun. My only problem with it is the same problem I had with CoH, only to a lesser extent: I make tons of new characters but don't want to do the starting quests over and over. Fortunately, in WoW these are more diverse than they are (or were anyway) in CoH.

It was great till i hit 60 ..then became the most boring game in creation. I finally bid fairwell after I hit 60 with characters from both factions. I had a 30 also but just couldnt play her anymore ...the quests got soo boring having done them once already.

It's really not built for RP. The whole game is overly cartoony and the actions, chars, emotes don't fit the genre. It's supposed to be all mythic and medievil yet you can do a chicken cluck and a Michael Jackson dance. That pisses me off.
The only thing I like about it from what I've played is that youa ctually step while turning instead of CoH's slippy slide.

Uhh... not saying that i have experience... but...
Overall, I really liked WoW. Doesn't have the individuality of CoH, but i like the atmosphere, the animation style, etc, and I find that the quests are fun, the political intrigue (when not full of smacking-down and "racism") to be really interesting. It depends on what you like, really, some people are going to hate the same things that other people love.
I've been sharing a friend's account on and off, and while i don't think i'd get an account of my own, it's been a lot of fun. I've got pretty much every race and class, just to see how they work - i *love* the druids. Rogues are awesome, paladins are awesome, warriors kick arse, and hunters.... well, if you play, you'll want one. They can be some work, but gobs of fun.
Personally, though, CoH is my game. Nothing else gives me the freedom to make whatever the heck i want, and though i'm no expert, the combat systems and missions are great here. *shrug*
If anyone does, you know, wanna look me up over there.. tell me. :look:
Now, if i could just get a look at all those other nice MMOs out there ;) ahhh games.. so tasty.

Theres a hidden quest you can do with the chicken cluck ...find a chicken in any of the human lands and hit it with the /cluck emote like 10 times ..it will look up at you .. I wont tell you the rest as not to spoil it for anyone silly enough to still be playing that.

If I could afford it, had the time and my computer had the room I would still be playing WoW.....I have never left CoH so dont get all in my grill. :shinner:
As for the sillyness and real world and pop culture refrences. Well taht is what makes Warcraft, warcraft....and not EQ...or DoAC or any other cookie cutter mideval game. so :P to you Kinetix

I think it's at least 50 times with the Emote BR :D.
I will agree though that CoH's combat system is far superior.
