Alrighty then....so yeah, I normally don't make threads for things like this but since this is a once a year type deal I figured I would.
As some of you know this weekend is the annual open martial arts tournament that my college hosts and of course I'll be competing. I just thought I'd make a lil thread for it so no one would wonder why I wasn't around most of tonight (depends on how long setup lasts) and 3/4 of the day tomorrow (I should probably be done around 6ish...not counting recoop time).
Last year I did win both of my events, not sure I'll win the kata division this time around though (I've been crazy busy with school so I haven't been able to practice as much) but hopefully I'll be able to have fun sparring (and another trophy to add to my collection wouldn't hurt ;) )
:chaku: :box:
Also....I made this thread so I'd have somewhere to post the pictures (hehehe i'll be semi dressed like Saber actually) and a friend has the built in camera feature, so she says she wants to try to get 30s of me in action. If she does I'll try to upload it for you guys too.
Anywho, I'll check this before I head out tomorrow morning (I have to be there at 8:45 am.....*grumble*) so feel free to leave well wishes and all that goodness. :D

Oh yeah! Well... uhhh... my dad gave me some nunchukas the other day, they were used and confiscated off some gang dude but they're mine now and I cracked myself in the face (x3), head (x2), legs (x7), crotch (x0, *whew*), chest (x6), and stomach/back (x5). So in your face! :shinner:
btw, thats cool mang martial arts competitions are pretty slick looking, wish I coulda done them... but the philosophy of my instructors over the years have been that it should only be for self defense and discipline of the spirit and not for sport.
Kick some ass, man! Urban Bushido represent! ;)

You know, my first set on Nunchuckas I managed to not hit myself a single time. Are you sure you aren't doing something wrong? :P

Well....it's 8:35ish......so it's at least 10 mins till I have to be there and 3 hours or so before I compete...I'm a lil sleepy but thankfully the showers were hotter than usual this morning....Yes a little bit of nervousness has started to show up, but more than anything I'm ready to get this party started :box:
According to what my instructor said while we were setting up yesterday, I'll be doing kata (forms, open handed this time) in the white/yellow belt division but that I'll be sparring in the orange/green (intermediate) division. :D Always good to know he thinks that well of me.
Thanks for all the well wishes folks :)

Go kick some ass!
Unless kicking of the posterior is grounds for disqualification, I don't know what crazy rules you have. Go be kung fu or something! What Would Carradine Do?

Some one's gotta post a link to a site that plays Kung Fu Fighting (I know misspelled) or something. Also, good luck with the tourney.

After watching the trailer for "Kung Fu Hustle", I find "Ballroom Blitz" much more "Kung Fu" than, oddly enough, "Kung Fu Fighting."
Good luck at the tournament, Frosty! Don't suck as much as Karate Kid!

Okie....quick post b/c I'm tired and VERRRRY HUNGRY (*roar*)
- Well, no footage...the digi cam was semi full so the 30sec clip idea is a no go *sniff sniff*
- I got 4th place in Kata/Open hand forms :D
- I got 2nd place in sparring in the intermediate division  I had an amazing finals match with one of my classmates and it really could have gone either way (lots of people came up to us and told us that afterwards). All in all definately a great time
- I'm not sure on the official count, but I know a *lot* of trophies ended up in the hands of our group.
- I don't know what pictures were taken with my camera, so there could be some shots of the fight....hopefully the pics taken with my friends digi cam (mostly posing and playing around ones) will be up before the weekend's done so then you guys can check em out.
THANKS FOR ALL THE WELL WISHES. I had a blast. :bdance:

/me bows.
2nd place. That's real good. Sparring under tournament rules is very hard. Need lots of Self Control and skill. (I dont know this from experience I just watched Extreme Martial Arts on the Discovery Channel ;) )
Grats man.

This makes me miss my Northern Shaolin training. <sigh> Ooh, tell me more? I trained Wu Shu for 7 years, mostly North shaolin style (I was only taught 2 Southern forms, the Tang Lang (Mantis) and a Panther form). Else it was Chang Chuan, Tantuis and others.
Edit: By forms I mean... what Katas are in Karate... movement sequences.
