Dammit...and I was looking forward to this one too :(

They did mention that Mythic wants to focus more on it's Warhammer license...if they develop a WH40k MMO that might make up for this.

I sort of wonder if that's not the consolation prize, since Warhammer 40K drew a lot of influence from Rome. At the same time it would be a little bit cheezy if they took all the graphics from this game and cobbled them into a WH40K game.
The crazy thing was how far along they were. You don't usually see games like this getting cancelled after they have that many playable elements.

Yeah, I beleive Beta for Imperator was supposed to start later this year...it must have been going horribly for it to get canned this far in, The Warhammer license is looking to be the original though, not 40k. Released in 2007 or so.

That is very sad news indeed. :(
The premise of this game was so innovative, it could really have been something...
Now that i look at the art in the screenshots, its beautiful...

I'm kinda glad. I was really looking forward to this after reading about it's back story and such. And how it would be PVE only, Mayans were the bad guys with super high tech, yada yada.
But then hearing about the actual game features made me hesitant, it was in the future but you couldn't fly a spaceship, the system seemed kind of rigid for a next generation game, the devs were even referring to the game using fantasy mmo titles like 'cleric' and such.
So probably for the best.

You might be right....looks like it'll have to be "Tabula Rasa" for my Sci-Fi MMO fix :D.

Warhammer 40K MMO would be great, it'd be spatial and have about a million races to choose from each iwth plenty of weapons and units along with'em. Warhammer on the other hand... who the hell wants another Fantasy MMO? They're dropping production like flies due to all the competition already.

Personally, as much as i respect Warhammer 40k, i just dont get the atmosphere, i find their art direction too chaotic. But thats just me, and i know many people love that universe.
I am still looking forward to the Star Trek mmorpg though...

I love 40k. I buy the codexes and stuff like that jsut for the fluff(story).
But it takes all kinds I guess. (plus the RTS game rocked)

What i love about W40K is that it does the same thing Star Wars and Firefly did.
Take the Sci-Fi genre and merge it with another genre. Star Wars was Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Firefly is Sci-Fi/Western and W40k is Sci-Fi/Gothic. It's just such a rich and different universe from the standard fare of Sci-Fi settings. Most Sci-Fi settings are too sleek and pretty for my tastes, while W40K is all gritty and grim.
Oh, and Space Marines are sooo badass. I styill can't fathom why the hell you played a silly Tau warrior in the FPS-game. A W40K FPS should obviously have you playing a Space Marine!

DDO all the way, baby.
Incidentally, the Dragonshard demo, which is based in the Eberron setting that DDO shares is up on fileplanet:

And no, I don't care how run-on that sentence was.
