That's the coolest globe i've ever seen.

There was a thread amout Keyhole (what this runs on) a little while ago. This was mentioned in the Google 20015 thing as well. Really, really awesome stuff.

This is different.
That thing we talked about before was Google Local, where you could search for places in the browser.

This thing here is like a globe, its 3D and everything, except you can zoom just like in satelite photos.

Plus it's got all sorts of layers you can turn on and off, and each of them is for something else, like schools, parks, water bodies, streets, movie rentals, etc.

I mean, just take a look at the grand canyon...

Help Wanted: Bell ringer. Room and board provided, disability benefits. Must be punctual and willing to work long hours. Ability to repel massed intruders and murder corrupt archdeacons a plus. Submit resumé to that huge honkin' cathedral on that island in downtown Paris. No gypsies, please.

You know what else would be cool? If these satellites managed to snap a picture of an active volcano while it was erupting. I mean, it can't be that hard to photograph a volcano through a thick, toxic, burning cloud of airborne volcanic ash, right?

I mean, look at that picture. Just look at it. Mount Saint Helens looks so wimpy without all that fire and explosions and tons of lava flows just gushing down the sides. She doesn't look any more awesome than your average mountain does...which is still pretty awesome to look at, but not as awesome as a hellfire-spitting volcano is.

Maybe the satellites did manage to snap one of these volcanoes mid-eruption. How many active volcanoes are on the planet, anyway? I think I'll try to find Mount Erebus next....

I am so in love with Google Earth now.

http://img305.echo.cx/img305/1673/TheFalls.jpg

You know what else sucks, though? Niagara Falls? It's two waterfalls. You have the huge, thundering, awesome Horseshoe Falls to the south, and you have the wimpy little pathetic dribble that is the American Falls to the north. And the border 'twixt United States and Canada runs right smack dab between the two.

So guess which waterfall goes to the Canadians. :grr:

Curse you, Canada! Give us the awesome waterfall already! We have a reputation as a nation of bad-asses to uphold, and the American Falls sure as hell aren't helping us any.... :cuss:

MikeKAY

I looked up Niagara Falls too; I was a bit disappointed that it was flat. :grr:

The Widowed
07-12-2005, 02:41 AM
Well, if you add the Terrain filter, it's not perfectly flat. The falls are just these shallow slopey things. Still disappointing, eh? :|

I'm sorry, we have to keep the falls. They give us magical powers.

Okay, they actually give us hydro power, but still.

Is that so? (http://www.niagarafallslive.com/Facts_about_Niagara_Falls.htm)

Interesting fact: According to the U.S.G.S. (United States Geological Survey) of Niagara
Falls, it appears that almost 1/3 of the Canadian Falls lies within US Territory

One-third of the Horseshoe Falls? How nice of the Canadians to share. :)

Hey, Canada! We want to share with you too. Just give us your two-thirds of the Horseshoe Falls and we'll give you two-thirds of the American falls. Heck, we'll even throw in the Bridal Veil falls for free! How does that sound? :)

I guess we'll just have to go all 1812 on Buffalo again.
Too bad you guys are such polite pacifists nowadays. I mean, really. While we were founding our nation by butchering the natives, the Mexicans and each other, you guys were founding your nation by signing treaties, selling animal hides and drawing up trade agreements. Therefore, we kick ass. And you guys settle for tormenting the wildlife. :P

We'll give you Canuckleheads till midnight to hand over the waterfall. Then we're coming over. >:]

Then we'll bring our cattle. A cow respects no treaties or trade agreements. All we do is outfit the cows with plenty of sweet, sweet cud and they'll follow us to the ends of the earth. Or to Canada. Where they will proceed to overgraze on all your lush Canadian lawns and leave cow patties around your trading posts. A bovine landmine beats a full house.

Operation: Battle Cattle is in effect. You have no chance to survive make your time. :P

Failing that, moose.

Moose (and, indeed, most mammals) make milk, too.

You can milk anything with nipples.
