Drawing Veik right now and thought I'd go ahead and show you the steps I take while I'm doing a drawing on the computer.

1.)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v297/veikira/1.jpg
I start out with a basic sketch. Showing the pose I want and the general shape I want. I'll also add in some sketchy details as well so I get an idea of were to put my inks. [b]The Sketch only acts as a guide, later on I might choose to change things around. Like you might be able to tell from the Ink.

2.)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v297/veikira/2.jpg
I go back and make my outlines so I can see the features a bit better. At this point I can see my figure and what the end drawing might look like. After I was finished with this I didn't like the position of his head. I wanted him to look straight down on the city , watching it. And not so much on a tilt. I also wanted to bring his arm in a bit more. A Nice Bold Guardian Look...(KInda Like my Hero Supe would have...after all...Veik is a representation of that man :P )

3.)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v297/veikira/3.jpg
Now the tedious part begins. Details and Creating Shape. Using Photoshop I use the lasso and draw the shape I want. Then fill it in with a brush. A very long prosess but with a good proffesional Ink Job Look for the end result. (As you can tell the drawing isn't done...

YEah...thats pretty much how I do my drawings in a nut shell. I dont normally draw with my computer much anymore. Now I scan a rough sketch and skip the first and second step.

I wanna know what you use for your shading, because it always looks similar in style.. so you must have certain techneque.

Edit
I know the perfect thing... post of a video of you doing a few steps.. >>

Haha, I love the difference between Step 2 and 3. There was a comic about this at PvP once, I think, making fun of all those "How to draw" books. Where step 1 is "draw a circle", step 2 is "find the eye and nose line" and step 3 is the completely finished picture. ;)

I'm surprised you draw with your mouse though! I was convinced you were using a Wacom. What resolution do you make your linework in, 600dpi? Do you blur the lasso? And how exactly do you do the hatching? Do you select every "Spike" individually or do you make a big black space and then erase into it?

~Easy steps to finish a pic~
Take an almost finished pic:

He'll add it in Step 4, which is also where he pushes the left eye closer to the nose and adds 50 more muscles to each arm. :D

Stop poking at poor Sol, Widdy. He might start with the angsty verse again! :D

That's cruel, Veik. That first step is the most uber gesture I've ever seen in my life. When I gesture it looks NOTHING like that. Just a bunch of scribbles. :P And what do you exactly use to do all of this on the computer? I could do step 1, but it would take 10 steps altogether to get to that. :P

That was more of a stab at Rob Liefeld than a stab at Solario. ;)

And yes, don't make me angsting out again. You won't like me, when I'm angsty.

I derailed this thread, I guess. Sorry...
But I'd really love that answered, Veik.

I'm still stuck at digital coloring....

Here's your answer :)

I sketch in red in normal resolution. I dont zoom in until I start my inks. And yes every hatch, every shape is individually done with my lasso. When I ink Ill outline with my lasso then fill in with the brush. I'll zoom in anywere from normal resolution to 1600 which is the closest I can get. Its a very long process but i think it pays off in the end...

I really do want a Wacom though. I'm diggin the one's that display the picture right in the pad. But at the moment I cant afford one. Specially with some of the gifts I gotta get this year for Christmas... :sarcasm:

The WACOM Cintiq? I was able to use one, and IMO, it is not necessarily worth the money. You should try it before you get it. I want to get me a A4 Oversize, big enough to nicely work with and it's somewhat affordable.

Anyway. When you do the lineart, in 1200 or 1600dpi (if I got it right), do you do it in greyscales or as a bitmap? And later to color you reduce it to 300 or 150dpi? If in greyscales, do you feather the lasso?
Not trying to steal your technique, but I love your style and would like to understand it. :)

What makes you think I havent tried one? I love em. Just sucks that there almost 3 thousands dollars...

Ooops, sorry, I was assuming. Ya, I know their price. A friend of mine says it's complete bollocks, he could build one for about 400 if he had the parts (I trust him on that, he's a tech).

Don't evade my questions! :P

So basically

1)Ask someone to draw something for you

2)Ask someone to color something for you

3)Praise them both and hang it on your wall.
