I like it a lot, looks a lot more professional. We should get style choices though for people who want the old ones.

Took me a sec to recognize Hero-1's Union Jack cape. And... um.. the game's been out for a year and yet a pre-beta screenshot is used on the right. Odd.

We have style choices under edit options. The Old School one is the Mega banner.

I think a better screenshot could be found for on the right. Maybe one with some gurus in it, at least. We have plenty of meeting screenshots around.

Yeah, but if an actual ingame picture with some gurus would be used half of the persons NOT in the picture would start complaining why they are not featured on this banner.

So the decision to take a normal screenshot from the offical site (from good old pre-beta days) is right, imho.

I'm not sure why we need to look "professional"... we are a community of artists, gamers, and most importantly... friends. The work done on our "old school" banner is amazing, in my humble opinion. We have an option to switch the banner? Yes, we do.... but why do we need this new anticeptic, boring banner? Would love to see an "official" comment about this... :(

The sissy choice isn't always the right choice, even if it does cut down on complaining. Sometimes it's good to have some balls.

I don't care if I'm in the banner or not, but I think it's a cop out to have some random schlubs from pre-beta up there in our community's banner.

I like the design, but really, it could be for any fan site right now.

Ladies and gentlemen... below the posts, quick reply box, and directly below the "posting rules" there is a style chooser with the options of Default Style and Old School. Old School is our old banner with the megas.

Its the new header for the content part of the site. Really, IF you want the old one all you have to do is choose the old one and you WILL NEVER see the new one again :) (as long as your logged in ofcourse :) )

You are correct that we can choose THE COH Guru banner if we want. But why the change? Why make the entrance to this community look so impersonal and uninviting? Answer those questions, please.

I don't think it's intent is to be impersonal and uninviting. Really, I'm sure it's supposed to be the opposite. Let's say you're new to CoH, only been playing for a week, and you're looking for an on-line community to join. You come to CoHGuru, but you notice that the banner is just pics of members characters. It seems to be a closed community from that perspective, and maybe you don't hang around because of it. Now, with this banner, it's kind of generic. It's CoH, for sure, but it's not community specific, so therefore, it's more friendly to people that are NOT members of this community but may wish to be.

Now, that said, I don't like the screenshot chosen. I'd prefer to see a post-beta screenie. Otherwise, I like it.

you guys do realize this is a public board right? and anyone that finds it can view it. there are links to it on other places, other people tell people to go to the site. So almost having it so personal will shy people away, thinkin this is a closeknit community and no one else can get in. And if you want to get right down to it, i didn't personaly like the old one. And seems like a few of you are taking the change as a personal attack, I highly doubt it was intended that way... so like chill or something :P

Okay, so personalizing the banner gives people the idea we are a close-knit community. Is that bad? I don't get how showing a strength of the community could be bad. And a lot of people have joined this community for exactly that reason.

Nope, I'm not "rage dumping", and not thinking it's a personal attack. Not sure how we get there from someone just voicing his/her opinion, even one like Thundermace's "I hate it". I asked two simple questions of the administrators of this board. Their answer is simply that, an answer. I'm not going to say, "I'm gonna quit" because of a banner, I just don't see the reason for the change. They might have a very good reason for it. Let's hear it from them.

The old banner contained members of this community. That immediately makes a new member feel like an outsider - "all these people even have their pic in the header, and here I am by myself!"

The idea with the beta screenshot was a testament to the origin of this community - before CoH even came out :)
