SCIENTISTS have created eerie zombie dogs, reanimating the canines after several hours of clinical death in attempts to develop suspended animation for humans. (http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,15739502-13762,00.html)

Neither do I. Something does not ring true in the article. Can't place a finger on it though. It does not help that they posted a picture of a snarling dog and call it a zombie dog.

I think it's just the way the aussie tabloid reported it. I found one other news item in the Daily Mail, and there is actually a Safar Research Centre, and they are actually doing studies on resucitation with dogs. (They're not really zombie dogs.)
Honestly this doesn't seem like that radical of a procedure. It's a well documented effect, the Mammalian Drown Reflex, or something to that effect. If a mammal drops into freezing water, they go into a hybernation state, and can survive without oxygen for a heck of a lot longer than they ordinarily would. In humans it happens a lot more with young children. So basically these guys are just reproducing the effect a little more fully.

I guess we do ignore the warnings depicted in zombie movies afterall. I guess I'm gonna have to go and buy a truckload of guns, ammo, and sharp swords and daggers.

I love the caption
Eerie ... boffins have brought dead dogs back to life, in the name of science.

Wouldnt this like defy any religous beliefs? I mean when we die our soul is supposed to go to heaven (or hell), reviving our body should not be able to bring our soul back. (this would be the case with humans). :sarcasm:

But, people are declared dead all the time, and revived. It's certainly true that we can't prove that such a revived person still has his soul, but we can't prove that he doesn't, either. And wouldn't it be incredibly rude to tell him that he doesn't?
Of course, that hasn't stopped such beliefs from spreading. In Voodoo, for instance, it's accepted that a zombie or other such person has no soul. He can be ostracized because of it. (And by zombie, I mean Voodoo zombies, not movie zombies. :D)

Technically they're not zombies, as their heart beats and they have no brain damage. Zombies don't pump blood, and only have the most basic of instincts. So no worries, mate. :D

Suddenly that whole 'Are YOU ready for a zombie attack?' thread seems alot more relevant.
Now, if you'll pardon me, I need to find out the location of the nearest gun store...
