Here comes the Champions Online bashing. :sarcasm:
I really wish I could play it, but my computer can't handle it. So, until I get a new computer, it's a no go. Hope to see you there when I finally do get over. Of course I will still be in CoH as well.
Depends on if I have money and a roof over my head by that point. Still testing it.

As for the topic of the thread, I'll probably give it a try when it comes out, if I get my new computer this month.
I will probably stick with CoH though.

I'm gonna check out the open beta just so I can see what some of my chars would look like in that universe, but I won't be there for the launch.
I will be there to laugh and welcome you and everyone else back to CoX though, thinking... 2-3 months should be enough time so you should all be back by the time the Winter event starts up this year. :D

I've played a little bit in beta but the game chugged so badly I'm not really willing to give it another try. It runs worse than super-high-end games like Crysis and Mass Effect on my machine.
You won't see me there. Hope PVP is a better.... wait... do they even have PVP yet? Not by launch, right? Inertial, with no PVP, what's the draw to CO?
Over the last couple weeks they've highlighted not only the PvP, but the different maps/scenarios of PvP. Many of them can be viewed in the Video gallery: http://champions-online.com/videos
EDIT: Also, in the Melee video, the opening voice sounds like an asshole. I just had to point that out. Its hilarious but at the same time I want to punch the guy in the mouth for voicing it over.

I saw Inertial on the CO boards awhile back; but no "howdy" or stopping at the Guru thread. :p
I really should try to play/beta it again, but I preferred the earlier "Run-n-Gun" method of combat than what they currently have of "shifting out of 4th gear into 2nd when you are hit and 1st when you fire/attack". That may work well with some travel powers but it looses something with Super Speed. :/
For some reason, I keep wondering why I need to force/push myself to beta this game? My subconcious must be trying to say something, but I will probably give it a whirl when it goes live, just to "be there". :p

I for one don't plan to 'leave' CoX (my accounts are paid up til next summer :P). I'll play 'em both. Maybe just rotate Runes of Magic out and replace it with CO. Sure, there are some parts of the game I don't like but I can say that about every MMO I play.

Heh im pretty sure, you'd have to peel back issue 14 and all those pvp changes and get all the old virtue crew back to get me back. :D You'd be proud though Xan, we took a Virtue based VG to the second rank on the pvp ladder before everyone from the test left.
As for CO? Is it old school coh fun? not and it won't ever be but its something else. Its fun, COH for a long time was kind of a dead horse for me, i'd done every piece of pve to death, really when you can do the states tf in 40 minutes you know your board. PVP really kept me hanging on, and me being the filthy power gamer when you have 16+ pvp toons rolled, leveled and IOed out for a certain style of pvp and then that entire mode of play is removed and all your group mates leave..................................
I digress though. CO is fun, the first time I played the closed beta ages ago I was kinda meh, trying it again a few days ago I was blown away. Spanned across three 22 LCDs its a beautifull game and its FUN!!!! After some putzing I made a great likeness of Inertial and was out and sending evil running for the hills! So any of you who will be there, just look up i'll be up there keeping the skies clean. Who knows you might even get some RP out of me again. ;D

I see CO is using sounds from more videogames than just City of Heroes. :eyebrow:

A lot of people like Soulja Boy, the Backstreet Boys, and McDonald's. Doesn't mean it's not crap. And even then, I hear more negative than positive about CO on various forums from people who have played it. Much, much, much more negative.
Final Fantasy XI is not up my alley. EverQuest is not up my alley. Age of Conan is not up my alley.
Champions Online is crap. Not the worst MMO I've ever played, but it is not good. It is loads better than CrimeCraft, but that's a dubious honor. I simply could not see playing Champions for more than a month, if that. While I'm not saying it's going to crash and wither and die, I suspect it will not do well.
Or, to put it another way:
There's still a lot of people who hate the game. Obviously it IS crap. You just happen to be one of the people who likes it.

Hmm...Where to start...
Actually, I'll just say this: your opinion isn't absolute. If people like CO, then they like it, and don't think it's crap. You don't like it, so you think it's crap.
The whole "This is crap" stuff is stupid, anyway. If it really was that bad, then EVERYBODY would know it, and NOBODY would play it.

You can do a kind of loping guy that's on fire (with the fire flight travel power... which is just fly while on fire anyway). Also, you can't just take any power from any powerset. You need a certain number of powers from that set to get it, or a greater number of powers from any powerset. So.. fireball (for example, numbers are inexact), requires 3 powers from Fire, or 5 powers from anything. No level requirements... just... indirect level requirements :)
Some of you may want to start looking at the main site for chances to win keys. There's a new contest a few days out of the week. Also, I believe you'll need keys for Open Beta, so for those of you who want to try it out, I'd start looking for chances to do so.

I've never even touched the game, and I don't like it. It gives me an ill vibe.
Then again, I just get pressed against the wall by the spinning black ball of death and hatred when the game is mentioned in Ventrilo. For that matter, it's easier to talk about the Twilight MMO.
FrostyPox
08-07-2009, 06:22 PM
Which, as it turns out, isn't an MMO, but a game that will allegedly have some kind of online component. And is being created by a student as a project. He's getting his degree in "Games System Design" or something like that from Westwood College Online.
I lol'ed hard.
But enough of that. All I can say is I beta tested AC2, Auto Assault, and Tabula Rasa. Each one left me with a really bad taste in my mouth, kinda like what Champions is doing. Each of those games died, and in the case of AA and TR, in less than a year and a half. Those aren't the only games I beta tested, but they are the only ones that I did not feel good about in any way, and they've each died a slow, painful death.
But we'll see soon enough. The Moment of Truth, so to speak, is in a couple weeks.

From what little research I've done, the zones in Champions look interesting. I'd love to explore them. I'd love it even more if COH came out with some Desert/Snow/Jungle zones.
I'll check out CO if Charon or Frost Sampson ever give me their keys. Otherwise it'll just be dust in the wind.

This is kind of how I've felt about Champions ever since the beginning. Power customization, asymmetrical costumes, more comic-booky zones... These aren't things I want from a NEW game, they're things I want City of Heroes to incorporate.
