View Full Version : Custom textures

Does anyone know if custom textures (like chest or tight pieces) still work? Whenever I try adding one to the game, the texture ingame just turns white. So I don't know if they patched something preventing modding or if I'm doing something wrong. Using ingame textures and replacing others works, for example.

Yes, they still work as they always have.
If you color your textures, in the game you have to set the color for the texture (let's say a chest symbol) to black and white. That's the only way for your texture to show up properly. Try switching the first color to black and the second to white (or vice-versa). If you don't color your textures but instead leave them black and white, then they are "color friendly" in the game just like the normal game content.
Also, a lot of the textures require an alpha channel layer to work properly. With a chest symbol, this is usually a solid white version of the symbol surrounded by black.
The texture you are replacing should be the same pixel height and width as the original.
I hope that helps. If not, please let me know. I have other suggestions that may.

Everything you need to know is right here in inkblaster's tutorial:

Thanks, guys. Alpha channels, emblems and even bump maps are no problem. It's the average texture that won't work for me. Like, if I redrew a chest piece texture.
So far I was fine working with PiggViewer and PS, but maybe I'll have to use GC3 as Ink does (or did).

All of my previous statements apply to chest textures as well. I made a custom chest texture for my Captain Marvel mod (still a work in progress) and have had no problems with the colors. Getting the shape I want on the part of the body I want is a major headache but colors work fine. Of course my chest texture is black and white in PS meaning that it is "color friendly" in the game.

Then I must be doing something wrong when saving my file. Do you use the GC3 as well or do you work with a different graphics pgrogram? What settings do you use when you save?

I'm using PiggViewer 1.61. (The newer version (5.whatever) sucks) and Adobe Photoshop 7 with the free Nvidia DDS plugin.
For the particular chest texture I'm working with, I save it as "DXT1, RGB, 4bpp, no alpha". Under Image Options, the image type is set to "grey scale".

Dammit, same here. Pigg 1.61 and Ps7. Only difference is that I saved an alpha layer.
I get 2 kinds of errors: either the saved texture has a black "rip" through some parts which happens when I export it as DDS, or ingame I get a completely white or black chest, depending on the alpha layer. I get that same result using Ink's tutorial with GC3.
Edit: Okay, FINALLY got it to work exporting it as DXT3 ARGB with an explicit alpha. Sheesh!

Ooooo this reminds me, I should look for a Twilight mod!!! Someone is bound to have it!

Stirring up shit just to stir it up, right?

Not at all! :) Actually, they had a "the Masquerade" mod back in the day, and people always cross over on CoX, so I figure there's gotta be someone out there who has it :)

The only reason you're here is to stir shit up because Xanatos started a shitstorm and needed someone to come back him up. And what's the M.O.? Post Twilight-related comments in unrelated threads by trying to cleverly disguise them as related comments. Pretty pathetic of him, even more so of you. Thanks for cluttering up the forum, now go away.

Nerfed, I was defending Xanatos because I agree with him and it wasn't he who pointed out the board-drama unfolding. And need I remind you, I simply came to defend against the homophobic comments you were making initially.

That's so ghey. :P
And if you were just here for that, you wouldn't need to pollute other sections of the forum that are unrelated to the movie with unnecessary Twilight references.

I don't see why discussing a mod/skin for the game is polluting the section designated for mod/skin for the game...? although I realize I totally posted in the wrong THREAD of the section. But I haven't been on these boards in forever and just say Poison's post.
