Check this out! it's a little... different than l4d... less actiony, and more survivaly. Most zombies take a few shots to put down (unless you're using the hunting shotgun or get a headshot) some zombuies take multiple headshots. You use iron sights instead of crosshairs, and get gun sway when you're moving.
my opinions of weapons are purely my own and not the views of yadda yadda yadda...
pistols are pretty good for headshotting though when you have one... it's kinda hard to sight in when you have two, since the point of aim is still the middle of the screen, but the guns themselves are a little off center. if you're looking for accuracy, go single, if you wanna pour rounds downrange, buy another. Pistols are the only weapons that have a flashlight.
Shotguns are pretty good for taking down things in AoE situations. there are two kinds, the regular "shotgun" and the "Special" Hunting Shotgun. the shotgun is a single barreled pump action.. you can shoot during the pump animation, so ammo conservation is key. The Hunting Shotgun is a double barrelled badass, it does more damage than the pump, but you have to reload every two shots. (i havn't tested the aleternate fire of the double barrel to see if it fires off both barrels at once)
The lever action rifle. This is the sniper rifle of this game, good for headshots and distance firing. In the more open levels, you'll want someone watching your back, since this weapon has the second narrowest view when sighting in, and zombies WILL sneak up on you.
The bullpup: This is the assault rifle. Quick controlled bursts is the answer to this one. It has the best sight in the game after the LAW. apparently on a round for round basis, the pistol does more damage, but this is a bullet hose.
The flamethrower: Zombies and Fire never mix well. it is very useful for illuminating enemies on the nighttime missions, and it does nasty damage to the "boss" types if you can keep the flame on them. don't shoot this at close targets though... you'll set yourself on fire if you do because fire is an AoE weapon.
The LAW: Rocket launcher, best sight in the game since it actually has a cross hair. Very long reload time (single shot weapon) use common sense withthis one.. you'll blow yourself up if you shoot point blank range.
If your buddy dies, pick up his weapon if you can, it'll save you money at the shop. (that's how i usually get my second pistol when i want one)
Next, the Good things!
Ammo is scarce enough that if you just unload like crazy on everything you WILL run out before the wave is over.
They take encumberance into account as well. You run faster with a knife in hand then with a gun, and you also move slower when you're sighted in instead of rambo style. You can't carry a shotgun, missile launcher, crossbow, flamethrower 5 grenades, an armor vest and two desert eagles. each item takes up a certain amount of encumberance space, which makes you move slower.
Recoil is taken into effect, you hold down the button and your second shot WILL be higher than the first.
You can weld doors shut to block off an area while your buddies heal up, but that tends to mean a ton of build up of zombies right outside the doors.
The "medkits" are reuseable, but have a recharge timer and also don't heal to full, it takew a couple of shots and time to heal somone to full.
When you get a "cool" kill (happens randomly from what i can tell) everyone (you and your teammates)goes into a slow motion sequence for a few seconds that allows you to better sight in for headshots or what have you.
Now the bad parts...
the game sounds are monontonous... the voices are all the same actor, saying the same things over and over again. I haven't found a way to change this to allow for different voices. (the game is made with the unreal engine, not source)
So far missions are: survival only styled missions, fighting off waves of undead, and Deathmatch. there are no specific mission objective style gameplay yet, but there's talk of a mod for this... no VS zombies either, and no talk of mods yet for this.
Limited character models (7 I believe, which are all variations of the other models or re-skins.) , (servers with a mutator to allow different models don't let you use the perk system because of the mutators)
The weapons merchant kind of breaks the survival mood in between waves of specimens cause she's talking smack about hurrying up, and the waves start by the merchant telling you how awesome the guns were that she just sold you. i can't wait for someone to put a mod in that changes her to the supply clerk or something... and someone to mod in decent voices. the suspension of disbelief just isn't theree when you have someone too scared to keep the shop open during waves is talking smack about how awesome the guns are.
Those are my initial impressions... i feel like i should be posting this in all gold letters because fo the wall of text...
anyways, it's currently $19.99 on steam for a few more days at least, so if this intrigues you, pick it up now, before it goes back up to $50.00
