According to Massively.com, the best games are : (http://www.massively.com/2009/04/30/anti-aliased-five-free-to-play-mmos-that-are-ahead-of-the-class/)

5) Shin Megami Tensen Online (http://megaten.aeriagames.com/)
4) Dungeon Runners (http://www.dungeonrunners.com/) NCSoft
3) Mabinogi (http://mabinogi.nexon.net/Preview/intro.htm)
2) Runes of Magic (http://us.runesofmagic.com/us/index.html)
1) Free Realms (http://www.freerealms.com/) Sony ( Hell, I recommend this game, just to show what future/serious MMO's should be looking at to do in their worlds.)

Honorable Mentions are :

1) Spellborn (http://spellborn.acclaim.com/) What? No 9 Dragons?! :p
2) Wizard 101 (https://www.wizard101.com/) The game, especially on TV commercials, looks "crappy", imo.
3) FusionFall (http://www.fusionfall.com/splashpage.html) Not too bad a game, but nothing to hold your attention from many months...imo again.

I did dabble in FreeRealms' Beta toward the end, and I must admit, it was kind of fun, thought I felt like a total dork playing it. Runes of Magic was OK. Dungeon runners was also OK. Never played Mabinogi and Shin Megami Tensen. Mot free MMOs, IMO, range from "meh" to total crap. None have ever really grabbed my attention for more than a couple weeks at most.

I was in Dungeon Runners' beta. Was pretty good for what it was, but I lost interest, though I heard it got a fare amount more polished after that point...or at least a spit-shine

the Shin Megami Tensei Imagine Online is faaaar from #1.

Free Realms is probably the best out of all of them, IMO.

I should point out I counted down/backwards, like the article. I guess it does not work on a short list such as this. (5, 4, 3, 2, 1).

So, Shin Megami Tensei is #5 rated and Free Realms is #1.

But yes, most of these are fairly "lite" in nature. You play for a week or two and perhaps move on, then you may (or may not) come back in the future to play for a few days, etc.

My girlfriend's son is currently addicted to Maple Story. I tried it, waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too repetetive. But not too bad for a 2D super nintendo-ish side scroller.

Shin Megami Tensen is pretty fun if not mind-numbingly difficult as you get further in.

Dungeon Runners is a hell of alot of fun, but I can't keep playing it for too long without it feeling really, really repetitious, the sense of humor is great for the most part if not a bit immature.

Mabinogi the freedom is really what's great about it.... however getting things done takes forever and a day. Alright, time to craft a coat! (an hour of gathering Wool Later) Alright, time to make it into fabric! (And hour and a whole bunch of failures later) Damnit, it didn't even turn out right... time to go do it again.

Runes of Magic is fantastic, and it's probably the only F2P I'd ever actually reach the endgame in.

As for Free Realms.... Haven't really tried it yet.

Yeah MegaTen Online is a tad disappointing.

I want to try Runners again, I played it with my other computer and it ran like ass, so this one should run it fine. I am kind of sick of the knights and wizards MMO's.

Fusion Fall surprised me how well they can make a browser made game. It didn't have much in the beta I played but it was cool getting to interact with some of the characters, I just wish they got the old voice for Dexter.
