THQ's next wrestling game to come out won't be another Smackdown vs. Raw, they've been working on this game for quite some time, but I couldn't find another thread talking about it, so I'm posting up a new one, IGN has started to release the official roster, and will continue to do so from now till February 16th, with the game due out on March 24th. If it plays like Smackdown, this could be pretty fun with the old school guys.
Here's who's been released so far:
Hulk Hogan
Andre The Giant
Bobby "The Brain" Heenan
Iron Sheik
Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake
Big John Studd
Junkyard Dog
Shawn Michaels
Bam Bam Bigelow
Sgt. Slaughter
Dusty Rhodes
Those not mentioned, but shown in the video on IGN include:
Bret Hart
Steve Austin

Wrestling games to me depend on controls, movesets and create a character. If that stuff sucks I don't bother.. I skipped Smackdown vs Raw 09 because 07/08 were let downs.

Hmm. They were supposed to release another video with more names today but haven't yet.

I saw Roddy Piper, Bret Heart, The Ultimate Warrior, The Rock and Stone Cold in IGN's videos.
At New York Comic con, they only had Hulk and Andre playable with Bobby "The Brain" as a selectable manager.
You know The Mouth of The South Jimmy Heart is going to be somewhere in the game and I'd love to see Paul Bear and classic Undertaker.
I hope they'll put in the Macho Man, but last I heard he's been pissed off with Vinny Mac, so even though he belongs in the game, he might not make it.
Since the game plays like Smackdown, I'm going to pass. I've said a couple of times in the past, I hate how they play and I prefer the AKI made wrestlers.

Earlier Smackdowns, i.e. HCTP, were spot on. The new ones... they're not horrible if you can get used to the control schemes... then again, I have no idea how they play on non-playstation systems, so I'm limited in what I speak of.

The only thing I care about in wrestling games is being able to create your own wrestler. If they don't offer this feature, I'm not interested.
suburbanhell
02-10-2009, 04:51 PM
Hmm. I would think you probably won't see a CAW feature, given the basis of the game is just Legends of Wrestlemanias gone by.

Bah... I wanna create my own wrestler specifically to fight against the legends. :grr:
They'd better have it.

It's just never been great, and somehow has gotten worst with the past three (not counting '09 since I haven't played).

I think AKI made them the best. The controls were so simple and the game played amazing. Every sequel they found a way to make them better. Even though it was Def Jam, the game played really smooth and was a ton of fun to beat up rappers.
Every other game that comes out is too f'n confusing to me. Every button on the controller does something different and all I want to do is grab them and put them into a slam or toss them into the ropes.
I hope they've changed the way the games have played over the years. I downloaded one of the Smackdown demos on my 360 and even though the game looked really good, it played like garbage.
Hopefully they'll offer a demo for Legends, because I'd love to play as some of my favorite wrestlers again. All they need is The Honkeytonk Man and they'll have the first NES roster again.

Oh, no, I wasn't saying you as in YOU, more as a general rule. I adapted to the new scheme better than my brother did, he hates the last few games I don't mind them. The only thing I don't really like about the latest games is the fact you can't use any CAWs online if you use design patterns and that you have to take ALL the characters through season mode or whatever to build up their attributes, it's a pain in the ass.

PLEASE let the game PLAY well. It's got almost all the characters I want, but if it plays like s*hit, then I won't bother.
I think the last of the bunch will be,
The Ultimate Warrior
The Undertaker
Paul Bearer
The Big Boss Man
Macho Man Randy Savage (I heard he's pissed with Vinny Mack, so it's iffy)
Mr. Perfect
Earthquake (Typhoon would be cool to have The Natural Disasters)
Owen Hart
Mankind (I doubt it now that Mick is with TNA)
The Demolition

I thought I read somewhere that the Ultimate Warrior & Randy Savage were both taken out of the game because of McMahon
suburbanhell

My bad, it was Savage & Foley:
The Wrestling Observer is reporting that Vince McMahon has decided NOT to feature Randy Savage as a playable character in the upcoming "Legends of Wrestlemania" video game which is slated to be released by THQ next March. Savage, who competed in 9 out of the first 10 Wrestlemania's and won the WWF Championship at two of them, is being regarded by THQ as a huge loss to the video game.
In addition to Savage, McMahon has also made the decision to pull Mick Foley from the game even though his character had already been created. McMahon made the decision following Foley's departure from WWE and announcement that he has signed with TNA. Several other names were also removed from the game at McMahon's request, but those names have yet to be released.
That being said, I did see in the CAW screenshots, Macho King attire as well as what looked like attire for Doink The Clown, The Big Boss Man, and the Ultimate Warrior...

I kinda figured that Mick and Randy Savage wouldn't be in the game. I heard that Macho Man has had a bit of a beef with Vince. He really should be in the game because when I think of classic WWF, I always think of Clash of The Mega Powers and when he was Macho King.
Well, as long as the game is Cena free, I'll be happy.

I agree, not to mention that classic intercontinental title bout with Ricky The Dragon Steamboat. Macho Man being left out of a title called Legends of Wrestlemania is just petty on the part of McMahon. I have no idea what the problem between the two of them is but I hope they resolve it soon, course, I've heard that he allegedly raped Stephanie McMahon when she was 14, so... if that's true then we'll likely never see that gap bridged.
Poison
02-15-2009, 11:01 AM
I doubt any raping stories hold their ground. Savage just tended to go way crazy and probably rubbed McMahon the wrong way. But WWE is bringing out a 3 DVD Macho Man collection now, so maybe he finally eases up on Savage.

Arn Anderson...in Legends of WRESTLEMANIA...huh?? No offense to him, he's a great wrestler and all, but he's WCW, not WWF.
I also can't believe I forgot Ricky The Dragon Steamboat. Even when he was just "The Dragon" and he'd spit fire on the turnbuckle, he was amazing and should be in the game.
No Owen Heart?! One of the best matches I ever saw was Owen vs Brett at Wrestlemania 10.
Hopefully it won't be too hard to make them all. Hell, I even saw they had Giant Gonzalez's stupid outfit in the game.

I saw another post and somebody had Superfly Jimmy Snuka on it, but then he wasn't on the list.
I still think Ricky The Dragon Steamboat and Owen Heart should have been included. But it's still nice to see they have almost every old WWF Arcade game's roster with the exception of The Macho Man.

They have one of The Fabulous Freebirds. They have one of The Brianbusters, clearly they weren't thinking tag teams in this game, which I guess kind of goes with the WWE's current stance that tag teams don't really matter, or they'd have a much more robust tag team division on the current rosters.
On the plus side you can put together the Hart Foundation, the Legion of Doom/Road Warriors, Rhythm & Blues, whatever that tag team Hogan & Brutus was called around Wrestlemania IX, Volkoff & the Sheik, and I guess DX.
