OK I got together with some of my old friend over the holiday break, and I brough along some of my card games (http://www.warehouse23.com/info/munchkin.html). Well, I have them stored in several plastic tackel boxes, and other plastic shoe boxes and cases of the like.

Well the cards are all in plastic bags, and dis orginized, and I just don't like how it is set up. Also I am running out of room fast.

So I started looking around for an option. And I can't really find anything that i like. So I designed this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/thebluecanary/game_case_double.png

It is based on a set of plans I found for a custom tool case. I just need an extra set of eyes on this, and any ideas I can do to update it.

Based on my count I need something like 40 of the smaller inserts to cover my games.

Ideas? Comment?

Sweet idea.

I could have used something like this when I had boatloads of Magic: the Gathering cards.

Thanks. it had a couple of neat things. Only issue is everything they sell assumes that you uses a card protector on. But still I like the card house and deck keepers. Hmmm

With the deck keepers you could almost put them into any kind of premade box. But I would still run into the issue of having to hunt and pull things out. What I need is a tool case that opens on the sides (like my build) and then add shelving to it. Well, something else to hunt for. =)

Without checking HF's site and just commenting on your design.

1) Don't you think, once loaded up with cards, that the thing will be VERY HEAVY to lug around? Maybe putting wheels but...then you need to deal with unloading it from your car (preferably station wagon or van) and carrying it up flights of stairs when there is no elevator.

2) If this is supposed to be stationary, have you considered hunting around for old card catalog pieces of furniture that Public Libraries use? You could probably find some nice old wooden ones or just go with the metal-type that have thinner walls. Maybe up for county auction or on E-Bay?

Oh yeah this thing would be heavier then hell. I just hate having to try and lug around 3-4 boxed of games. You do give me the idea of having a large stationary place to just hold them, and a smaller portable unit that goes with it for when I want to take a select collection of games. Maybe even something to hold my games and my wife's stuff. Ideas Ideas.

I wonder if I can find a nice large portable tool box and then just build draw seperators for it.

Whatever you do, make sure its latched in some way, shape, or form.

It will eventually tip over, and picking up all of those cards would suck.

I was planing on using strong magnets. Two on each door. Picking them up would suck rocks.

Magnets would not work if you had to stop fast in a car. I would use an latching system. Could be as easy as little hooks over miniature nails, or could be as complex as an entire faceplate over the box with a latch at the top.

Either way, It would save headaches in the long run.

True. A combo of both might be helpful. Once I get something built I'll look into different options that fit its size.

I am going to go a little different now. Looking over the website HF posted I went down to my local hobby town USA and picked up two 100 card 2 part slider cases, ($1.50 each) and tried them out. Seems they hold 145 cards each. (Playing cards). So I ordered a collection to fit my needs, and a few more for future needs.

So what I have planed is stack them inside my tackle box for now, I guess I can get about 18 of the boxes in there. And look into other options.

http://www.planomolding.com/ has some great storage boxes and tackle boxes. I'm going to hit Bass Pro shop in a few weekends and see what I kind find there.

I also have a new design I want to build as the ultimate. Once I have it drawn, I'll post.

Make sure it has blinking LEDs and a strip of lighting that follows the outline of the container!

Okay, I am being silly. :p

The funny part it, I was actually thinking of making it look like a steamer trunk. It would be fun to stealth it out a bit or something.

You could put a little thing in there, I don't know the technical name, but its pretty much a little catch inside the draw connected to a small light inside so when you pull out the draw you can see inside with its own light, but that's if you're feeling technical

Your funny. But thats not a horable idea. You can buy small battery powered LED light kits that would do just that. I think they call them draw lights or something, I remember seeing an infomershal about them.

Ok got my cases in the mail yesterday. I think I should have read the detales on the 25 & 50 pack. Seems you get two per order. Oh well. Now I have extra 25 & 50.

For those who might want to know how many playing cards they each hold:

25 holds 35 ( 3 x 4 x .5 )
50 holds 70 ( 3 x 4 x 1 )
100 holds 145 ( 3 x 4 x 2 )
150 holds 235 ( 3 x 4 x 3 )

The sizes are all in inches. The 150 is a perfect 3 x 4, the others are just a little smaller then that, but rounded them up to 3 x 4 works best for my designs.

Just adding them to the boxes rather then plastic bags has let me add two games to my box. I did remove one game because it has tiles that are larger then the boxs, but the game really wasn't that good anyway. (Hell Rails). Idea was good, but the rules where horable and hard to follow.

Only issue I see now is that I have 3 more expantionset I need (2 for munchkin and one for super munchkin) and then I want Good, the Bad and the Munchkin. (If you mix Munchkin Space & Cowboy Munchkin together you get something like Firefly.) I also have two versions of Fluxx I need to add, (Fluxx and Zombie Fluxx). And I would LOVE to be able to take my Settlers and Frag with me as well. But that would mean a VERY large box. So in the mean time.

I'll either go with something like this (http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_59192____SearchResults) with boxes like these (http://www.tackletogo.com/plano3731.html) (4). Or find another larger hard/soft case to just hold them all.

So the search goes on!

No Munchkin Cthulhu or Munchkin Bites?

I'm trying to get Cthulhu as a gift atm. But if that fails I have a $50 gift card to my local comic store. My buddies got it for me as a wedding gift. And I don't care for Bites. No desire toget it.

Update:

http://www.adorama.com/images/large/SAWO1309.JPG

The metal carry case with wheels (#WO1309) is made of aluminum and has an outer case size of 28"x 17"x 11". It features several inner protective partitions. It has three outer adjustable loops for securely carrying lengthy items like light stands, tripods and umbrellas. It comes with an extendable pulling handle for ease of mobility.

I went out and ordered this case. It looks like it will be a really good fit. It should hold about 108 of the 150 cases. The adjustable dividers should be a big help. Its like two of my tackle boxes in one nice case.
