It would appear that my soundcard & vista & winamp/adobe audition do not play well together.
Soundcard is a SB X-Fi from a few years back with up to date drivers.
Needed to install an older card since the newer cards do not have the "What U Hear" aka Stereo Mix ability.
First problem off the bat with Vista - it can't tell that I have a 5.1 speaker system set up, it keeps defaulting to a 2/2.1 system, so my center, rear speakers, and subwoofer have been made null and void.
Second problem, there's this really weird echo when talking through my mic.
Third problem, unless I turn the volume WAAAAAAAY up, I can't hear crap if I put headphones on.
When playing MP3s in Winamp, I have this utterly annoying poppling/crackling sound that won't go away and only increases with further multitasking, to the point of actually freezing up the mp3 for 30+ seconds at times.
When trying to record anything in Adobe Audition, I receive the same popping/crackling, and it is still there on playback.
I've tried a ton of things, I've been all over google and back again on various tech forums, nothing seems to work. Anyone got any ideas?
