My condolences to any players, also SOE got the rights to make a DC comics based MMO in the process O_o .

Dang, and with the recent and future lack of non-combat content for COH I was seriously considering MxO. Guess that's out. Curse you Sony! Will you not rest until you pwn the world!

Those poor poor people. Perhaps a moment of silence is in order?

Come on, who is really surprised about this? Didn't Microsoft go through a "buying binge" period? Even going so far as to buy total dogs (in terms of future earnings) like WebTV?
This part really made me giggle:
What the new DC game entails is unknown at this time but could give City of Heroes a fight for its life upon release.
ROFL! Like Sony could ever make a decent MMO themselves. This, the same company that took the most lucrative license in entertainment history and made SUCH a god-awful game, when you mention it, people who have played it grimace as if in pain.

This is true but does not mean Sony wont try to suck the well dry, taking those peoples money for every penny they can get.

SOE is always gonna take folks' money for shoddy products. That's what they do best. :) Well, that plus blaming the players for bugs in their code. But given all of the rabid, frothy mouthed fanbois of EQ1, the DC game will draw some sucke....errr people. :p
Oh and I am SO gonna play Vanguard: Saga of Heroes (http://www.vanguardsoh.com/). Unlike a lot of folks currently playing the old venerable title, I feel EQ was best early in its life (surely much better than the version of the last 3 years or so). I'm eager to see what the original design team can come up with now that the landscape has changed. I really hope they don't go the "cater to casuals" route though. :( Too many games already out that are doing that.

Bottom Line: City of Heroes will remain the forerunner of non-medieval/fantasy MMOs and untouched by SOE.
Sports and Weather in a moment... back to you, Chip.

I'm personally leaning towards Auto Assault. :D
This is pretty sad, though. SOE is craptastic, and anything they touch turns to dust in my opinion.

Yeah. The only thing NCSoft needs to worry about is NCSoft. :D

It wouldn't interest me so much if I wasn't a Havok (http://www.havok.com/) fanboi. :chuckle:

The makers of AA are similar to Cryptic. Small design team, mainly friends, who had a vision of a unique game, followed through with it, had some bumps along the way, and are now better game makers for it. Netdevil's first game, Jumpgate, was (and still is) a unique space sim. My only problem with it was that it was too pvp-oriented (hence the low number of players). If AA is geared more towards pvp, I'll probably stay away from it too. PVP just isn't my thing.
As far as SOE, I came really close to playing MxO in addition to COH, but fortunately for me, I tried the beta on my laptop, wasn't that impressed and decided against it. What a smart decision that was :)

EQ improved vastly after the departure of McQuaid and Co. No longer was the game beholden to their restrictive "my way or the highway" attitude and the much ballyhooed Vision(tm). After they left, the developers were free(r) to change things to suit player needs, rather than McQuaid wants. I wouldn't touch Vanguard with a 10-foot pole.

Umm, correct me if I'm wrong...but isn't a game's entertainment value solely dependant on the DEVELOPERS, and not just SOE?

Perusing the press announcement, I did notice something, their $21.99 a month access pass lets folks play EQ, EQII, SWG, Planetside, EQOA, and now MxO. That's a heck of a bargain.
Now factor this into we pay $14.99 a month just for COH, and if we'll want to play COV, it's probably going to be another $5 bucks a month, maybe someone should point this out to NCSoft, maybe we can get them to throw in Auto Assault and Lineage II. :D

I sure hope so, at least that's what I'm counting on. I would love to see the DC game come out and not be a pile of hot steaming crap.

SoE has a talent for making a game's quality as dependant upon them as possible. Also, sucking.
