Or a bit smaller, for perspective, if you wanted it out like that. But the musclework is pretty good.

His right arm should be behind his torso more.
The mark of a good artist is the ability to recognize his (or her) own mistakes. :D
You'll pull it off, Kin. You're almost there already. My suggestion on how to fix the arm? Presently his arms are more of a straight-on perspective while his entire torso is turned slightly to his right. So you could also try a slight twist of his torso; Leave his pelvis and belly where they are, but give the breast/shoulder region more of a straight-on view. Then just use the lines on his costume to suggest the twist between his lower and upper torso. (If you're feeling froggy, you could even add some slight south-by-southwest "stretch marks" in his costume, just below his left armpit and shoulder...the most obvious stretch point of the body with such a torso twist.)
Let me know if that helps. We'd like to see the results, wouldn't we? :)

*Applauds* Hey, that's a good one. You've even got some perspective on the staff there. I like his raised hand, too, i'm always terrible/slacky on hands.
Muahah. Charon looks like he's king of the ring! well... of the roof. Love to see Got and Stan finished as well. ;)

do some for me or get some off the internet for me to play with and I'll photoshop them for ya if you want. larger, clean, sketches are easier to work with.

Very nice Kin!
School art is always fun. It's pretty neat what kind of cool things you can make when you take art classes at school. You sometimes don't realize it but you get super skilled the more you draw... and it doesn't even matter what you draw! Just the time taken to observe and draw what you see is great.
By the way, commenting on your comment a page or so back... Quick drawings, whether 20 minute drawings or 30 second gensture drawings are the BEST. I spent years doing that and still now sometimes i spend pages and pages of a perfectly good sketch book just doing 30 second gesture drawings and just quick doodles. These really teach you hope to get the "essence" of an object (or motion of a person in the case of gesture drawings) rather than spend a lot of time just drawing details. Getting down form and shape are FAR more important than details in the end.... and from your charcoal drawings above, you already have a good eye for details... :)
Keep up the drawing and like i keep saying here in the art forums, pad and pencil everywhere, and keep drawing drawing drawing!! Soon we shall all be as good as Veikira... (perhaps :P )

Nice stuff, Kin! I think if there was a hand coming over the right arm it would push the pose a little more. Also, if you shifted the hips a little to the left it would be a tad bit stronger. Otherwise, nice detail, and the expression on the face is well done too.

Any light blue/turquoise coloured pencil will do; although you can also buy a box of them at graphics supply shops. This colour is used for sketching because it doesn't photograph on the black and white negatives that are used in printing, so it doesn't have to be erased after inking. Red, on the other hand, photographs as black onto black and white film.
I see people using the red or blue color. Are they just color pencils or is it some special sketch pencil that can only be found at a hobby shop...
Non-Photo Blue pencils. An animator's/character designer's favorite pencil. I have a couple myself, but I like using normal #2 pencils. Dunno. Whatever your personal preference is I suppose.
Kin, that character sheet looks awesome. The expression on his face is nice. Proportions seem a little off though. His arms look a little long, and his legs look a little short. I don't know if that's intentional. Still looks good. Let's see more!

You can draw with the blue, then draw over with normal pencils or pens on the lines you like, then xerox it and the blue goes away. Not just any blue colored pencils work, has to be "No-Photo Blue".

The Proportions are intentional, he's supposed to be a bit impish and mischevious. I'm pretty good with proportions when I'm trying :) . On the 3/4 view his smile isn't as much of a smile, nor close enough in shape to the others, I'll have to change that. It's not the last you'll see of "Mr. Happy Pants", I have to draw over these blue ones and make 6 emotion sketches of him.

They teach us using Lightwave. And they KNOW the industry is based off of Maya. Every company has their own software, by Maya is the basis for everything. I'm sure it's the same. It's just I have to relearn all the tools/operations from Lightwave to Maya. Huge ass jump. Lightwave kind of "guides" you with preloaded textures, etc. Maya is like one big dump truck and throws it all at you. You have a lot more freedom, but if you don't know what you're doing there isn't much you can do.

Actually, a lot of the life drawing classes I've taken have included mostly slightly overweight men. Even when we did get female models, they were deemed "imperfect by society," meaning that they didn't have overly large breasts and small waists.
Our instructor did that so that we would draw what we see, and not what we think we see.

You have, Kin. I agree. Those are awesome. You're gettin' a good sense of the anatomy which will go a LONG ways after the class is finished.
I'm lovin' my human anatomy class as well. I can see myself getting better already just by doin' random drawings/gestures from life. You really begin to understand how everything is positioned when someone is leaning, or their torso is twisted at whatever degree, etc.
Do you practice outside of class to? That'll go along way as well because you continually practice and define your skills.

OMG WANGS! LAWL!
Seriously though, Good work. The other day, I actually tried to draw something... wow, let me say that I've lost all ability to doodle! But it's good to see others sticking to it! Good job!

You didn't do this. :P
Kin, those gestures are awesome, man. It looks to me like you have a really good understanding of the human skeleton. I struggled a bit in my class (I was more comfortable with the muscles), but it looks like you have it pretty solid.
And isn't it amazing the things you can draw after you've taken an anatomy class? I find myself gesturing for hours at a time and coming across less stumbling blocks and errors then what I used to do before I took the anatomy course. Once you find out what makes this bump on the body, or why when something is twisted, something else is popping, or what is the origin of insertion for whatever type of muscle/bone and where does it connect to, drawing becomes more fluid. Like a smooth connect-the-dots almost. I find myself going "Tricep goes here...acromion process should be popping right there....that connects there...this should be pulled...this is pulling because..." gesture after gesture.
Really, anyone else who loves to draw, and wants to take up a career in whatever, please, get into an anatomy class. Even if its just for 1 class. You learn so much and it's very helpful. You can clearly see the development in both Kin and I's work from over a year ago. If I could I'd take the course over again, but since the professor who teaches it is going on a sabbatical for 2 years (she's opening a gallery in France), this coming Fall is the last class she'll teach, and I wanted to leave an open seat for those who haven't had the opportunity. But being the professor that she is, she lets her previous students come in and draw when her class draws. Just to get that extra "Drawings from Life" practice.
I kinda went on a rant there, but I'm impressed. This is really good stuff, Kin. Keep it up! We might get to T!M-status one of these days. :chuckle:

I doubt I'll ever be that good, but yes the class helps a lot. It isn't an anatomy class per-se, just a nude drawing class. I've taken it twice and it's so great and helpful. Thanks for the kind words. :)

Your live drawing class had a guy with a battle axe, necklace of human teeth, and a pimp cane? Wow!
