Hello. I would like to start the RPEC (Role Playing Event Commitee) here in the forums.
I think, as a small committe dedicated to starting and organizing RP events, we can see more fruition and great RP ideas here for the whole community.
Who can join? Anyone who wants to of course :)
I figure we can be a body responsible for community wide RPs that are open to everyone and not just focused around certain heroes or SGs.
So yeah, a few ideas have been brought up that I very much like and I'd like to present them here. Anyone interested in helping GM, Head up, organize, brainstorm, or create any of these or other ones, please post here! We can get the ball rolling and get these events on their feet!
Event 1: Teamup Series
This would be a series of RPs where 5 or 6 random heroes are chosen for each "episode", different heroes each time. The stories would be of epic proportions, getting a chance to, eventually, showcase everyone's hero in some way or another. This can also create interesting bonds between characters as they are forced by means of emergency and disaster, to work with each other to come out of the situation victoriously!
Event 2: Massive Forum RP
We will have a group of RPs running at the same time, seperately, all part of the same, epic battle. This was headed up in the prebeta forums by the Circle of Twelve, a villain group, and I think we can do another here with a slight tweak on the organization and rules. Volunteers to participate are accepted and thrown into one of the three RPs. Each RP has a different GM and will all lead to the epic battle of the final RP.This is also a good chance for those with villain characters to get them involved in an RP against the heroes :)
Event 3: Massive Non Progressive RP
As Xan pointed out, this was also done in the prebeta forums. No GM, just an opening story and heroes posting their actions. Only trick is, you get three posts max, and when someone else posts, you can no longer post in the RP. It's fun for quick story writing and showcasing your hero's abilities in an RP that requires absolutely no dedication :)

1 - I'll be honest. Not too keen on this idea. Series' roleplays are a bore and a chore as the majority of the people involved end up waiting all the time. Not saying it can't be done or isn't enjoyable, but that of the three suggestions i'd reccomend this one the least.
2 - Awesome idea! This really let me play out one of my villain characters and it was so much fun. 2-3 different villains per thread and you've got a fun event. Especialy as people using villains in one thread canuse heroes in another. Would be hard to organise. I know the Circle of Twelve story was very free-form and was only structured early on. (Those who stayed on helped form the ending.) But it was very epic, and when pulled off correctly can be really cool.
3 - I love the idea. Allot of people are really keen on roleplays - than get bored after a few weeks and decide not to bother. This manages to overcome that whilst ALSO allowing the ENTIRE community to be involved. A great idea, one i'm annoyed i didn't think of :)

Thanks for replying Xan. And yes, I agree with the concerns for the first one.
That's why I was thinking of actually holding multiple events. Rather than waiting for a spot in the series one, They can join up in one of the other two that are going on at the same time :)
So there's activity going on everywhere and everyone can be a part of something. Each RP in number two will have a different GM as will the Series, and number three requires no GM at all so we're not asking too much of anyone by aiming for them at the same time I don't think.
Think of it as an RPG fair with your choices of rides to jump on :)

Oh and another event I was thinking of, is down the line a bit heh.
It's called The Paragon Playhouse.
I have a domain and tons of bandwith available so I think I will start this as soon as I can.
I'm learning how to do flash.
SO, in short, the playhouse will be a place for me to showcase a biweekly show (Hopefully) of certain characters in roles of famous plays and movies. Course it will be comedy and hopefully will be a hoot with all the mistakes and bloopers that will happen. I also hope to buy enough bandwith to host other fan flash from this community for public viewing as well :)
I know of a few that most of us would love to have at our fingertips to view over and over and over again.
I recall the one with all the pcity member's characters in it. Another fifth column tribute to the song, Ballroom Blitz :)
Classics, all of them.
Where does RP Event play into this you say?
Why auditions of course! I'm not going to just choose random heroes. Spur will hold auditions and will cast every performance in character :)
What do you think of this endeavor?

Well, you know you didnt have to ask.....I'm game for all of the rp ideas....I'm not too sure that any of my heroes would audition though....if they did they'd have to be talked into it by others I'm sure.
*thumbs up*
Give me a yell sometime so I can get with Radical Dreamer and you about some possible story ideas, at least to get the ball rolling.

I'd actually be interested in joining some sort of PCity RP thing. Most of my stuff tends to be limited to the Dawn Patrol, and I'm sure that stepping out to see the rest of the world wouldn't hurt.

The idea of a big community RP sounds fun. I really like the second option. It sounds really new to me as well as incredibly large and epic...sounds like just the thing to excite everyone and keep it going. Count me in ;)

As a veteran of the Circle of Twelve Rp, both hero and villain, I love this idea. You can count me in for sure. I also have a knack, so I'm told, for coming up with rp ideas so I'll bring that to the table.

I just watched that Ballroom Blitz video again a couple of weeks ago! Very good stuff. :D
I like the idea. Very much.

all 3 sound like fun, i just really wish i could find a "planned" rp event type thinkg in game... most of the stuff i've come across SG wise for rp tends to be fits and bursts of activity spaced apart by about 1-2 weeks of grind... if i'm even that lucky.
that's my true wish is for an in game RP that has somewhat of a plan to it. like someone who knows the missions plans out an afternoon around the missions they have available. hows that sound?

Sounds good Maz, I'll look into that.
And it seems the majority of folks like option two, so let's get that rolling.
First I need names of people willing to GM.
I need at least three. Those people may also have a villain in that particular RP.
I need people who will play villains as well. I'd say 3 per RP so that'd be 9. This will form up the brainstorming commitee. That is all I need for now, so start volunteering!!!! :)
Oh if you would like to play your villain, you can still play your hero as well, but they'd have to be in another of the three RPs.
Most brainstorming will take place over PMs and AIM chatrooms so as to not have any spoilers to plots be viewable by heroes in those particular RP :)
I can head it up so I'll have no heroes participating. I may have one villain though that pops up in all three from time to time so there's at least one person aware of what's happening in each RP :)

This sounds like a great Idea ND. I like #3 the best really, because while some people may have trouble coming up with a whole arc, but a few "chapters" would be fun and challenging. ;)

You've got my two cents for brainstorming ideas. As for participating, well, we'll have to wait and see if I'm up to it once school lets out. Right now I'm pretty much an all time low in moral conerning most things becaus I'm studying my brains out for finals.

What he said.
And as to the other stuff. I'm all for RP, and am game for whatever. I tend not to be very patient waiting around for others to post and so often will post copious amounts of fluff just to fill the silence.
Also, I'm not confident enough of a roleplayer yet to be willing to GM or anything like that. I prefer to react to plot hooks. I'm too inexperienced to come up with them on my own, and when I do, I have a hard time communicating them in such a way as to get the characters (players, really) to react.
So I'll be more of a follower in this one, and I'm up for anything.

Ok well I have some ideas I wanna run by whoever volunteers and I have the rules and organization down I think.
Just need GMs and villains.
C'mon! Got any villains out there? :)
If not, make one! Muahahaha.
I'm going to be using Dischord, A man, Vincent Joseph MacAulay, possesed by an ancient fae spirit of darkness........heh I won't go into too much. Don't wanna ruin too many surprises for the RP :)

Willing to jump into RP. As for villains I suck at writing them. Maybe after CoV comes out I'll have a better way to write them.
I like all your ideas ND. *goes back to her corner and watches*

I said i've got a villain ready to go, as well as a story idea, but I won't be posting the details here.
i'll need a team of about 3-4 sounds appropriate. no godmoding, and it would be best to use a hero who is just starting out on their heroing career.

I'd join but I don't know quite what you are looking for and my RP skills are shakey at best. I kinda RP as a spur of the moment thing if something inspires me. *shrug* So not really much help at all, eh?
Volunteers? Volunteers for what exactly?

ok, i've got a little more information to give out regarding this scenario. fel free to pick your powers. by starting out heroes, i'm not meaning pick a primary and secondary and voila youre level one in outbreak. i'd say more like, pick some powers that make sense to the character, but keep the guy withthe S on his cape at home.

Overall Personality: Loud,
Likes: the taste of human suffering, but he's trying to break that habit.
Dislikes: holy ground/things. they make him feel "ouchy"
Personal History:
Jubei was "born' during a freak electrical storm coupled with a ritual by the circle of thorns.
The circle was attempting to summon a "Real" demon to come take over their human sacrifice, when something went wrong.
In the building that they were performing their ritual on there was a man watching an anime about a reformed demon on his t.v. during the storm.
At the height of the ritual, the circle mystics stabbed the sacrifice with their sacrifical daggers. The human broke free with a burst of desperate strength, ripping one of the knives out of the sumoners hands. in his blind rush, he ran right into the buildings sattelite receiver, right as a lightening bolt struck the building.
The circle ritual, infused with the wild power of the storm, immediately sucked in the closest demon to take posession of the mortal shell. That demon was Jubei.
With a rush of power he quickly overcame the circle mystics, flinging them off the roof, and fighting off the last one using the sattelite dish itself as a weapon. Now he fights crime, rights worngs, and tries to stay on the straight and narrow.
