The hero known as Frost Cat truged slowly down the sidewalk, her tail hanging low and twitching only slightly. She wasn't in her costume but rather her casual clothes, not that it really made a difference. She was easily identifiable no matter what she wore given her feline features. Her outfit consisted of a minimal top that covered her chest and not much more. The jacket she normally wore was tied around her waist almsot forming a second skirt over the leather one she currently wore.

She had nowhere to be and nothing to do. For once in a long while all of her contacts were either pouring over information she had brought them from the field or simply had no active cases for her to work on. It was days like these where a normal hero would have gone and done something fun with their friends, visited family, or worked on a hobby. Days that came far too seldom in this city of heroes.

Then again Frost Cat was hardly normal. Her general personality drove most people away and if that didn't quite do the trick it was a simple matter to turn up the attitude and chase them away the rest of the way. The exact whys for her behavior were her own and something she wasn't about to share, even if she had close friends to share it with.

Continuing down the street the sound of a radio from a nearby building caused her ears to perk up. "Welcome back listeners. This is Mark Tucker bringing you the latest weather report. Incase you've been hiding inside today is a scorcher and brings us to the fourth day of a heat wave that has no end in sight. Highs are expected to reach into the upper 90s with the current temporature....."

The weatherman's voice faded away as Frost Cat moved out of hearing range. He had summed it up quite nicely. It was hot and not just hot but hotter then an Outcast Scorcher, hotter then a Behemoth Overlord, even hot enough to rival even Infernal himself. At least that was how it felt to Frost Cat. Sure she had the ability to control ice and thus create a measure of cool in this heat but that cost energy which in turn required effort which in turn made her even hotter. It was a vicious cycle that if followed to conclusion would leave her far worse off then she was now.

From off to her right a sudden cool breeze waffted across her face, causing her dark blue hair to sway ever so slightly. Turning her face toward the welcome jet of air she saw that her feet had carried her to the doors of a local grocery store. That was when an idea formed in her mind. There was only one way to get relief from the sweltering heat on a day such as this. Something cool, something sweet, and something creamy. "Yes. I think a bit of ice cream is just what I need."

Outside the air itself seemed to scramble trying to find some relief from the heatwave that had Paragon City in it's clutches....but inside a small apartment in King's Row it was quite a different story. Inside the hero known as Sterling Saber lay comfortably in bed with his girlfriend Einmyria Laufeyson. The latter had been awake for some time, while the former was catching up on much needed sleep. She stroked his head gently for a few moments, and he finally woke up, smiling, and hugged her close. With the air conditioner set nearly as low as it could go, the two were able to cuddle and laugh comfortably together.

With a light peck on Brendan's cheek, Ein leaned back and smiled.

"I need ice cream."

He blinked and stared at her.

"You mean now?"

She wrapped her arms around him tightly, batting her eyes.

"You don't understand...neeeed...."

Looking past her, out the window he could almost see the heatwaves.

"But Ein..it's sooooo hot out there....it was hot early this morning and it's the middle of the day now..."

"Pleeeeease....Who knows... maybe it's an essential component for making a baby..."

Brendan blinked again, the blank look still on his face as he spoke to her quietly.

"But hun....what kind of nourishment is the baby gonna get from ice cream?"

"I don't know! Love particles! Stop making me think....I just want ice cream..."

He groaned softly, already recognizing the hint of whining in her voice and buried his head in her shoulder.

"But Ein....it's soooo hot out there....and sooo cool in here....and we're together.."

Trying to distract her some he kissed her softly, but to no avail.

"...don't make me go get it myself..."

He sighed....there was no way he was letting her out in the heat in her condition...but he wasn't quite ready to give up.

"I take it there's no way you can wait until the sun goes down can you...and are you sure there isn't any in the fridge?"

"But that's hours away.....and it's empty...trust me."

The two stared at each other for a moment and finally he rolled off the bed and began getting dressed.

"Thank you!"

She grinned happily and patted her tummy. Brendan shook his head, grinning slightly as he walked to the closet and pulled out a sleeveless t-shirt.

"Mint chocolate chip! Or strawberry cheesecake! Either one....I'm not picky."

He couldn't help but laugh....she was practically beaming and slowly she climbed out of bed and walked with him to the door.

"I'll keep the AC going for you....if you hurry we can eat it in bed together...."

She flashed him one of her special grins and kissed him.

"Hopefully this won't take long...."

He leaned down and kissed her round stomach, grinning and then was off in a flash toward the nearest grocery store, just down the road in Skyway.

Strolling down the grocery store's aisles Frost Cat’s ears swiveled this way and that as she picked up snippets of conversation from the other shoppers. There was one kid begging his mom to be given some candy. A couple a few rows over were arguing about what to have for dinner. Another couple was discussing the virtues of red onions versus yellow. It wasn’t that she really cared what any of them were talking about but when you could hear a pin hit the floor on the other side of the room it was next to impossible to shut them out.

This was made all the more worse by the fact that people who saw her couldn’t help but comment about her appearance, usually after they thought she was out of earshot. There were many cat hybrids in Paragon City but the citizens never seemed to get tired of talking about them. The nicest ones involved speculations of her being a hero. The not so nice ones were better off not dwelling on.

Reaching the frozen foods section of the store Frost Cat began browsing through their selection. Being a manipulator of ice the frosty feline scarcely noticed the few degrees drop in temperature that accompanied the row of glass door freezers on her left. With a casual air to her step she sauntered down to where the ice cream was kept and carefully looked over the variety of flavors.

It truly was remarkable just how much time and resources the ice cream companies devoted to finding new and unique tastes. One couldn’t help but wonder what more useful things could have discovered if that money and creativity were put toward less decadent pursuits. Then again, would anyone want to live in a world without peanut butter cup, mint chocolate chip, or any of the other sinfully sweet creations on the market?

"Where oh where are you...." she wondered, looking for a specific flavor.
