View Full Version : First Day!
Today was my first day starting my internship. :D
Guess what I did the entire day? Q&A Test the video game. :D :D :D Now that is a job I can get use to doing on the regular. From 9-5 it was like CoH only watered down with a curriculum thrown into it for edumakation. Its a department of a cyber school that is developing several games for the whole online school thing. It's set up like an MMO, so it was fun. I caught an entire 4 pages worth of bugs today, and one of the guys who has been employed there had a buddy that's working for Cryptic who is currently working on Champions. Pretty exciting stuff. With all of the WoW shirts people were wearing, the X-men action figures, trading card games, gamer magazines, and all that fancy stuff plastered around the building I felt right at home. :D

Damn that's cool.
Where are you interning at and what game are you testing?
How did you get the position, like what were they looking for and how did you find it? I'm just curious as I'll probably have to do the same kind of thing at some pont.;)

The only problem with a QA gig is that eventually as the game gets closer to release those 8 hour long testing sessions will become 16 hour long testing sessions, and while you'll be damn good at the game, you'll be damn sick of it after a while. It's a great way to break into the industry though, many successful QA Testers end up becoming producers, designers, etc.
However, since it's an internship I'd imagine they won't have you doing that the whole time so you can actually learn other aspects. Either way, that's a pretty sweet deal.

I'm interning at Lincoln Interactive. The team is called 'Gears': http://gears.nndsonline.org/
You can see the games I'm testing under products. They're also currently developing several other projects (one of which is superhero-related). I got the position through networking. I went and visited the guy that heads up the entire department, had an interview, showed him my reel, etc. After that I just kept following up once or twice a month, and then around the middle of May they let me know that I had gotten the position.

Oh I was gettin' tired of it yesterday. :D I caught a huge bug in the game though. Something where you couldn't get anymore missions from any of the contacts which put a huge halt on gameplay. Originally I thought they'd have us working 40 hours a week, but considering that we each get a day off out of the week (and today is my day), hours got cut back to 32 hours a week. And yea, he told us our time would be split up with QA and design teams.
So it's all good. :D

Glad to see you've found something that makes you happy. Just remember to keep all the good exploits secret so you can feed them to us later.
So we were given brand new laptops, right? God I love this effin' internship. Talked to head honcho man today and he said that I was on the list to be hired sometime next summer. So prayerfully I'll get a position here. :D Game development was never in my sight, but I'm getting my foot in the door, and as long as I stay in the same area I'm headed in the right direction. Never in a million years would I imagine something like this to be located in Pennsylvania. Of all states, and its 30 minutes away from my parent's house. If that ain't pimp I don't know what is.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND, I'm downloadin' CoH right now. :D Somethin' to do while I wait for all of the games we're working on to get installed.

You "Dog" you! :D
Just remember, although you can do almost anything you want with the laptops, it is still theirs. I have CoH on my laptop, but been too busy at work site to use it much. Maybe if I ever travel again...
