View Full Version : Villain Side: Which version of Silver Bolt do you want?

Since Electric powers are confirmed for both Corruptors and Dominators in i12, it looks like I will finally be creating Silver Bolt, Jade Dragon's main rival, and rival of the other members of the Crime Fighters as well. Silver Bolt is actually connected to the others, as he gets his power from the same source, the four Objects of Power found under the pyramid of Pharoah Akenaton. He brought the other three together in the first place, to stop him from gaining all four Objects, and he is still trying to defeat the other three and steal their powers.

Conceptually, Silver Bolt's power is very similar to Jade Dragon's. He has a field of electricity that surrounds his body, which he can control telekinetically to create blasts and shields, the same way Jade Dragon can control his cloud of mist. JD's "mist" is physical, however, and thus has mass and momentum, while Silver Bolt's electricity is pure energy. Silver Bolt is able to create force fields, however, and move metal objects magnetically, so there is some physicality to his power, just not as much as JD's.

My original concept from my stories would be too powerful to fit into any Archetype, however, he is also using a "secret power" the others don't know about. He has combined with his Object, (a silver amulet) which enables him to take on the others and be their equal, even outnumbered three to one. So I've been thinking of creating him in CoV as a "depowered" version, where he is not using the amulet. One obvious reason for this is he doesn't want Lord Recluse to know how powerful he really is. He could also be using his depowered form as a disguise, since the other Crime Fighters have only seen him fully powered.

So, I could create him as either a Corruptor, using only the ranged and defensive applications of his power, or a Dominator, using only the control and ranged/melee applications of his power. Dominator actually fits him a bit better, as he tends to pick things up and throw them, which I can do with Propel, and he's also very skilled as a martial artist, so he does tend to fight in melee. I've also thought of creating him as a Blaster, (I have a female character on Guardian who has his powers) and so Dominator would fit that most closely.

I plan to create one of each, and play them both until I decide which I want to play most. I'd like to create one on Pinnacle, though, and one somewhere else (either Triumph or Virtue) so I thought I would ask you guys which you thought would fit best into your plans. I know there isn't much interest in playing the villains on Thursdays, but we might still start playing them more later. So if either a Dominator or a Corruptor sounds like a better idea to you guys, go ahead and say something.

As a Dominator, I'm definately going to be making him Gravity/Electric. I am kind of hoping down the line an Electric or Magnetic Control set (or both) will be added, but for now, Gravity should be good for the effect of his powers, if not the exact graphics. And as I said before, Propel should be perfect, even if it doesn't include electric graphics. I can also have him go into "Domination Mode" by fitting the amulet to his costume, which will result in a costume change. (Although he still won't be as powerful as the original concept)

As a Corruptor, I'm a little more unsure about what Sets I want. My original concept was Electric/Force Field, which would be an exact counterpart to Jade Dragon's Force Field/Radiation. Corruptor's don't get Force Field, though, which leaves Electric/Sonic. The problem is, I have played Radiation/Sonic, and it sucks. (Well, I don't like it, anyway) I expect that Electric/Sonic is also going to prove hard to solo, although the lack of knockback, which is the main problem I have with it, does sort of match Silver Bolt's power as less "physical" than Jade Dragon's. I can also see the Sonic graphics looking more like electricity, even though they're orange. (But presumably villain lightning will be red)

My other thought is to go with Electric/Kinetics. This would certainly be the more conventional choice, as Kin is well known as a strong set. And even though Silver Bolt won't be able to use his defensive shields (not on himself, anyway) the concept does sort of fit, since his electrical powers make him very fast moving and agile. I've also said that his electricity is able to cauterize wounds, which would be healing, and would probably make up for not being able to block attacks.

The main thing is, while the Electric/Force Field combo is closest to his original concept, I don't want him to be too much like Jade Dragon. The Rad/Sonic I tested previously is an evil version of Jade Dragon, and I most definately wouldn't want him to duplicate that character on that server. (Triumph) So I will probably end up putting the Dominator version on Triumph eventually anyway. I can copy him over from Pinnacle, though, if it comes down to that.

One additional point to consider is that I already have a Dominator in Deep Six with Dragon Lord Morgon. So the Corruptor version would at least add some variety for my own personal characters. However, we may have enough Corruptors already, and Dominator may be better from the SG point of view.

Sounds to me that he might fit better as a dominator. It also fits the personality of the character.

The only other thing I'd mention is that I hate Propel. Visually and conceptually it's interesting, but as a power of much worth in the game it falls short. It's slow, roots you for a long time, usually gives you the miss message a few seconds before your object reaches the target and doesn't do a heck of a lot of damage for all that hoopla. I originally took it for Crimson Conjurer because of concept, and I've had it in my respec crosshairs ever since. Even the concept annoys me a bit since everyone sees a different object.

Hm. Since Propel is the main reason I'm considering Silver Bolt as a Dom, that's not really good news.

You're right, though, it does fit his personality. He's a lot better hand to hand fighter than Jade Dragon, and of course I get to play around with the costume change when he goes Domination. Which is always fun. :D

Now that I think about it, though, I'm also thinking of recreating Sandy. Now that I can make her Fire/Electric, she can finally be her original concept. And match her hero counterpart. And as I said before, there's also Dragon Lord Morgon. That's a lot of Dominators. :D

(Hm... unless I go Electric/Thermal with Sandy. I'll have to think about that)
