Okay Gurus.

Let's narrow down our top 3 choices for our destination. Sorry I dropped the ball on this... I have no excuse, I'm just forgetful.

You have one week to pick the ONE destination you'd like. Rem and I are already researching hotels in each place.

Cost will be around $1500/person, max, regardless of the destination chosen. We will try to keep it below that, but that is our cap.

This poll closes April 12, 2008.

As usual, feel free to share any comments in this thread.

Lemme give a breakdown that should help folks decide.

If the Keys are selected, you're looking at 5-6 days in the Keys and 2 in Miami (one coming, one going) in order to ensure everyone's together. So, let's use this weekend as an example:

Saturday morning/afternoon, fly to Miami. Check into the Shore Club (http://www.shoreclub.com/) or Delano (http://www.delano-hotel.com/) or Raleigh (http://www.raleighhotel.com/) or The Palms (http://www.thepalmshotel.com/) or something. Then Sunday morning, fly from Miami to Key West or Islamorada or whichever island is chosen. Then the following Saturday, fly from Key West or Islamorada or whichever island is chosen, to Miami and check back into the hotel (either the same one or a different one, for variety). Then Sunday morning/afternoon, everyone flies home.

Vancouver's a bit easier since it'll typically be just a single connection for most folks, as is Savannah possibly.

As much as ive always wanted to go to Canada, i think for a vacation something warmer is more pleasing to everyone involved. I also have alot of friends/relatives in florida, so would be a worthwhile vacation anyway.

I picked Savannah.

If for no other reason than I can drive there with not to much trouble.

According to mapquest it's only an 13.5 hour trip. Having spent 17 and 22 hours on the road before this should be nothing. :D

I have my reasons for wanting to avoid an airport.

Savannah, been to Canada, but never the South, and I always wanted to go. The Keys sounds too complicated travel wise.

Savannah mainly because it is only 2 hours away. But secondly, it is a beautiful city with alot to do and not very pricey.

I chose canada because its a 5 to 8 hour drive or I can puddle jump from portland to seattle to vancouver. Also the airfare from portland for me to fly my family to Savana would be $2000 at least and that would be going via Frontier Airlines. Portland is not a hub city so no cheap flights to the south. Miami would be about $200 a piece cheaper granted I have friends on Key West but still the airfare kills the vacation from the get go. I also want to scout good places for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.

I chose CA cause Georgia seems kinda boring (no offense) to be taking a cruise at to me. Besides Vancouver seems really cool as I know some kick ass Canadians :)

As much as I would like to be somewhere sunny and tropic-y, I think the travel plans to the Keys sound too complicated as well. Especially on the first day when many of us are meeting eachother for the first time, I think it would be better to be all "settled" somewhere and have a chance to meet and chat and have a few drinks or whatever, rather than, "Hey howyadoin'? Gotta go! Gotta catch a flight tomorrow!"

Granted, we'd all be on the flight together and that would be fun, but I personally would rather get to know people in some chill lounge somewhere instead of an airplane cabin.

OH! Savannah is where Sherman's march to the sea ended.

My history nerd sense is tingling.

I wonder if that is a sore subject down there? Ha

Voted for Canada.
Didn't want to do the hop to the keys and even though GA has Paula for some good cookin', I think Vancouver has a good array of activities including beaches.

I ate at her restaurant last time I was in Savannah. Amazing food! I think I gained 10 pounds from that meal alone!

Just so everyone is informed, to travel outside the US and reenter the country after June 2009 you will be required to have a passport. You can read the particulars here (http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html)on the State Department website. If I understand it correctly, as it is now you must have a passport to fly to Canada and reenter the US.

Also, if you are a convicted felon there is some additional paperwork you have to file. I think even if you have a DUI conviction you have to file some additional paperwork, at least I know Paris had to :)

Actually I think you need a passport now at all to travel outside the US. I had to get one. It didn't take long, it wasn't hard and I got to track the process of it. I also got it a week before it said it was due to arrive so that was hella nice.

Right now if you travel by land or sea in the western hemisphere you do not need a passport, just some form of government issued ID and a birth certificate. That is all changing soon though.

Sorry to derail, thought it was pertinent information for the poll.

Dont think i'll be going if its in Canada. Only way i swing vacations is if im able to swing some kind of family meeting in there as well. Also cant get any hops to canada so there is no way i can afford the plane ticket from germany to Canada. Oh well, hope its fun.

Take the top two choices and have a run off between them. 4 votes for Fla. could change this.

Somehow I missed this poll (I wish we could get a notice on the main CoH forum, because this very important topic can get lost here in a subforum), but my money is with BC and the Keys.

Alumette

It looks like it's BC. Honestly that surprised me, since the original idea was something along the lines of a cruise. However, vox populi and all.

So now I am just waiting to hear from Rem on what kinds of options we have for BC in terms of lodging, activities, etc.

Rem? :stick: Have we any other info yet?
