DVD Drive issue please help!!!

ok, so i have a HP DVD Writer 740b, and it's acting very odd... it's working just fine for playing CD's and CD-roms, but it isn't recognizing that there is a disk in the drive when a DVD is put in it.

I can't update the drivers as there are none (100% plug and play)

Does this do it with every DVD, or just blank ones?

all dvd's. both blank or otherwise, data and movie

Re-download the firmware from the interbutt.

did that too, still not working for dvd (it works fine for CD's
