So I'm back! Those of you who don't like it, deal with it. Let go and move on. Those of you who begged me to come back, I'm here because of you. Thank you for your friendship and caring.
I stopped posting because my account stopped working. My username, password, and email address were not recognized by the site. While I was assured it SHOULD work, it didn't. Let's see if the same thing happens to this account, shall we?
Anyway, I am back in game, as many of you know. I have joined the Dawn Patrol and I LOVE it! Special thanks to Stalking Shadow and Alumette for talking me into it, and all of DP for making me feel so welcome.

Hehe, thanks Al :) And everyone else. I did not mean to be confrontational, just stating my position. I don't hold a grudge, I don't hate anyone, and I am perfectly willing to talk to anyone and try to iron out our differences. But like Al said, it's all so far in the past. Let it be. I'm sorry things didn't work out the way you thought they should. But let go and move on.
Okay, I've said my piece, no more.
And maybe I should have used a different thread title, but I *am* highly involved in theatre ;) I do love drama, but I actually like comedies more, especially farces. Christopher Durang is one of my favorite playwrights. What about you guys?

She doesn't remember much of anything. However, in tells I'm more than happy to say hi :)

Do you know that kind of people who kill conversations and dampen the mood? The hated boss, the disgusting ex-partner, the hard-blowing knowitall? You stand there with your friends or colleagues, a person of that specification suddenly pops in and everybody goes quiet? Or there is a party going on and people are having fun, but that special person appears and suddenly everybody is moody and they prefer to leave the party early? Well this community is the party and OHW is the special someone.
Now, the normal case is that that kind of person usually doesn't even notice that he/she is annoying. They wonder why others shut up when they join in the talk, go away when they arrive. But it would never occur to them that it's themselves. In this here case though, the person DOES know. Still, she prefers to pop in and bust the party. Even though only recently she was asked by a community member to not post here and she agreed to stay away and frequent certain former forum instead.
Now, not everybody dislikes her. Some don't know her, others don't know of what caused this strong dislike in many, others do know but decide it has nothing to do with them and they prefer to stay neutral and finally there are those who just like her. But pretty much everybody notices or knows that there is a disruption in the force of the community (see Larke's post, for example). In the end, her mere presence causes trouble.
What caused this strong dislike, has only vaguely to do with this forum. The people involved met through this forum or knew each other already in RL. But it was really a real life issue which just happened to involve community members. Although private, far too many people, who did not have anything to do with it all, know the matter of this split, so it shall not be told here in all its glory again. In a nutshell, it involves friendship, secrets, trust and tight bonds, but also double-crossing, abuse, cheating, lies, divorce and many burnt-down bridges. Some people love drama and obviously love causing it, as well. In theatre you never know what's the mask and what the real face anyway, right? I think it's understandable that the people involved in this play were all sad, angry or disappointed, but surely hurt. Very deeply hurt even, each is his or her way.
Time cures all wounds. Sometimes it takes more, sometimes less time. This wisdom never mentions the case where a person who caused you a wound passes by every now and then and slices the scar open again, though. Some of you might know, others were lucky enough to not experience it yet. But sometimes in your life there are persons whose mere presence makes you furious or make you cry. I guess it's people who hurt you deeply in the past. It's their presence, seeing them on an old picture, seeing their name on a list or in your instant messenger. Or their post in the forum you frequent. The weaker ones will hide, draw back, flee. The stronger ones will try to face it. And, as the past showed, will in the case of a forum flame in the one or another way.
Now the neutral people come into play. They think the others are overreacting. The should grow up. Get over it. Not post, if those hurt ones don't want to post anything positive. If they can't stand it, maybe even leave the forum. Yes, it makes sense. They're right, we all need to move on. And that special person keeps popping up all the time anyway, every time slicing open the wounds in one way or another (just check the thread title and the posts directed at unnamed people). So after seeing that they can't change it, they can't get that one special person to just stay away and let them cure their wounds, they leave.
I've seen several people post in this thread who did not want OHW to return. They've still said "welcome back". I know of many more people who have not posted here, because they'd love to tell her to go away again (and that is nicely put). But they don't have anything positive to say, so they don't. But I know of those people that they will leave the forum, seeing that she will once again not keep her promise to stay away. Most do not love drama, so they won't post a "goodbye, I'm leaving because of this". Those who do, do it in an effort to get rid of the situation again.
Now, to bring this post to an end:
I am in Spain visiting my family atm, without internet. Have been without for a week now. I decide to check my messages one day, on a 56k modem, and get flooded by mails and PMs about this thread, about people leaving the forum, quitting the global chat channel, not joining TS anymore, etc. Now I ask you, simply as one admin of this forum, what do I/we admins do? Do we welcome back one left back member and therefore lose 2 handful or more active members? Or do I ask that one special member to stay away, knowing though that this was already done in the past by others and it didn't happen, out of ignorance, stubborness, stupidity, provocation or whatever reason? When is enough enough? Where does one's freedoms collide with others'?
What would YOU do? I'd really like to know.

Well, quite frankly, if someone's so offended by the presence of someone else that they just can't hack it anymore, then let them leave. I have yet to see ANYTHING that would involve the forum as a whole brought up in these threads. I just suddenly saw thread after angry, pointlessly long thread about some issue that had apperantly occured in real life. I did'nt care, it had nothing to do with me. Now that I've talked with folks, I STILL don't care, and it STILL has nothing to do with me. If people have outside issues and want to leave the forum, fine, but OHW has yet to violate any of the forum rules, so let me state this as clearly as I can: The forum, as a whole, has no buisness in the issue. NONE. I would appreciate it if the issue would just be dropped, but apperantly some folks just can't do that. So leave if you want. But if we're just going to pick sides and start banning people on the wrong one, you can count me gone. And I'll even do it without making a new thread to clutter up the board.
Because I'm such a nice guy.

I'm not going to post my opinion on the matter one way or the other, I just have a comment to the above referenced quote.
Since this is a community forum, one that lives or dies by not only the common bond that we all share through a game, but also through friendships that all if not most of us have formed over the past 2+ years over 3 different forums. I'd say that personal problems that involve multiple members IS the business of not only the forum as a whole but specifically the Admins that have to ultimately deal with it.
To just ignore it, would only put the issue on a back burner. It would still eventually, boil over.
Magna Harrier
06-15-2005, 01:29 AM
The difference here being that the bond that you're reffering to isn't one shared by EVERYONE on this board. Everyone's connected to someone in some way, obviously, but quite frankly, there are a large number of us who have no connection to this problem whatsoever, and, frankly, would appreciate it if folks could settle personal issues over AIM or PM's. The forum in general does NOT need multiple threads on whether or not we, as a whole, agree with a descicion someone has made in their personal life. If people MUST air their greivances in a public are, please just make ONE thread and limit it to that SINGLE area, so it does'nt spill out into the forum as a whole. There are plenty of folks who don't know the people involved from Adam, outside the game and this forum, and would appreciate it if any fueding could be kept somewhat limited.

I know I've mostly just lurked here and haven't posted much, but over the time that I've been coming here, I've seen what was once a welcoming and fun forum turn into something close to an elementary school popularity contest - and it's you and Tark and a few other elitist ass-clowns that are pulling the strings. I honestly have no idea what to say. I tend to like to sit back on a fence and watch how things take place and learn what I can, as I am currently doing now. I was not aware of the past problems but I can understand and sympathize with those who were hurt, and with those who are happy to welcome back an old friend.
If something was to be decided by the community, should that be the case, I would not voice my final opinion, if voice one at all, until I knew the full extent of what occured and the personal opinions from both sides.

How does that post make him a prick? All he did was lay out the situation as it stands now, and the concerns and complaints that have been voiced to him? And I know what most peopel are going to say, that this is just a case of Mod standing up for another Mod. It's not. I've seen people be pricks, trust me, I bring the ability to an art form when I'm in a foul mood.
As for the throwing around of the word Elitist, you do realize that the use of the word is a form of elitism in and of itself, right? By calling someone an elitist, you are seperating yourself from them, and placing yourself above them in your eyes, and that is elitism. Think about that next time you use the term.
well I would just like to say welcome back OHW and to those of you that have issue with her posting here. This is a ever evolving community. If you don't like it then by all means you know where the door is.
Now having said that I will be sad to see many of you go. Tark make sure you keep in touch so when I finish the picture I know how to get it to you.

As usual, I'm clueless as to what's going on and what the issue really is. I'm not sure I really even want to know.
My only question is this:
don't these forums allow us to ignore posts? If people hate each other THAT much, just put the other on ignore and go on your merry way and pretend like they aren't even here.
Perhaps it really was that bad that someone had to stay away, but without knowing everything that happened, wouldn't the ignore function be all that is needed in this situation?
Noble
06-15-2005, 03:43 AM
Ignoring posts really isn't the problem, nor would be ignoring a person. It is as Poisen pointed out that a person's mere presence can cause troubling emotions within a person. We can ignore them all we like, but we cannot force ourselves to foget that they are present no matter how hard we try. I can understand this from a real-life perspective, as well as on boards.
Just being around someone who has caused you some terrible emotional pain can be torture, I know this personally because someone traumatized me when I was a teenager and I was never able to get over that pain to any extent until I had moved over 300 miles away. Even now when I'm not around that person just the thought of them still causes me some anxiety, but not the terror or pain that they had once wrought. Its a pschological thing, and those type of wounds do not heal as easliy as physical ones. Its been over 7 years now for me, and I still feel the pain to some degree from my own.
This is something that the individuals involved will need to tend to on their own with counsel from friends if they will allow it. But, because it has left its imprint in our community we as a whole should best decide how to deal with it here to hopefully prevent such things from happening in the future, if at all possible.
