In the early 1980’s, a group of powerful and famous superheroes formed a super group, the Defenders of Freedom. This group was popular not only with the public at large, but with other heroes, and had a reputation as upstanding heroes, role-models to aspire to. There wasn’t anything they wouldn’t do to protect the Earth. During their tenure, they fought an amazing collection of both cosmic and Earth-bound villains and threats+, including their evil opposites from a mirror-Earth, called the Dictators of Tyranny. Their exploits were the stuff of legend, and people believed there wasn’t a foe the Defenders couldn’t defeat. Until the Rikti came. The Defenders were one of the first teams to respond to the alien menace, and also the first to lose a member. The android known as Defender Prime was destroyed in the initial conflicts with the Rikti, and this loss was a blow that the Defenders themselves never fully recovered from. However, it did solidify their resolve to push the invaders from the Earth once and for all. When word came down the pipe of the plan for the final battle of the war, the Defenders of Freedom were the first to volunteer to go with Hero One as part of his Omega Team. They were believed killed along with the rest of Omega Team, and out of respect for the lost heroes, no one has taken up their team name since.
Recently, however, members of the Defenders of Freedom have begun to appear on the streets of Paragon City, the first among them the teams original leader and founder, The American-Shield. They all appear to be suffering from some kind of amnesia. They can remember their names, their abilities and a few details of their exploits, including fighting in the Rikti war, but beyond that, nothing. The more time passes, however, the more they remember, especially the more time they spend with each other. As they find each other, they slowly start to re-form the Defenders of Freedom, even to the point of re-activating their Satellite base, Freedom Star One, left dormant all this time.
But, what happened to them during their absence? Why have they returned now, after the Rikti have returned? Is there a connection? Did they really escape the Rikti and are here to defend the Earth once more? Or are they part of some sinister Rikti plot? Even the Defenders of Freedom cannot answer these questions.

The Skinny: This is to be an RP/Story Super Group that I would like to put together. The idea is that, once a week, the members of this group meet, play and level together, while telling stories of this groups Past/Present/Future. What were some of the amazing adventures they went on in the 80’s? How do the heroes of today react to these legends of old returning to the present? What about Heroes that were around during the Rikti War? Do those heroes trust the returning Defenders?
The idea is that every member of the group will add to the background and current story of the team, thus filling in the blanks the group doesn’t remember from amnesia. Example: “I remember when we all first formed the Defenders of Freedom. The Earth had just been attacked by Cosmo the Living Comet. I was the first on the scene, but I was quickly followed by the rest of you. Remember that?” That sort of thing.
I want to keep the group to a small number, no more than 8 (so we can max out on teamage), but I also want it to be people that can play during my play times, which means late at night Pacific Time, like 10pm PST. That’s like 1am Eastern. Also, I am hoping that people with toons NOT in this group will interact with us.
Example: “I fought along side the Defenders many times. I was there when they disappeared. You have a long way to go to prove to me that you are them.” Or maybe, “Man, I can’t believe you guys are alive! You know you were my inspiration to become a hero?” That kind of thing.
No particular starting time to get this going, but I don’t want people higher than 10 before we start teaming up, because I want everyone to level roughly together. I want the members of this team to be archetypal characters, a la the Justice League or the Avengers.
Also, members who join the team will be let in on the True Secret of what happened to the Defenders of Freedom after they disappeared with Team Omega.
I’ve already started with my toon, the American-Shield (obviously, a Superman/Captain America type character, and the team’s leader).
