Hi all,

I'm a former Rose Online player. Though this game has been so hacked and duped and ruined, i decided to look for a new game... After reading many threads and websites i came up with the idea that probably City of Heroes is the only other RPG that i might actually like :) So i found this 14 days trial oppertunity, yeah!

Now, i've created the account. And downloaded 2 cd's of this game on the CoH ftp server. I have installed the cd's. When i try to start the game I get this city of heroes updater, that tries to patch everything.. Bad thing is, it tells me it needs 30 more hours before it will be ready?

Is this normal the first time you want to play? It looks like if it doesnt see my installation and its trying to do a remote installation or something.. It says it needs to download 1 GIG?? Thats a huge patch :)

I'm pretty sure my connection os ok since i downloaded the 2 complete cd's in half an hour today.

Please help :)

well, im not so sure about 1 gig, but Yes, you do have to download 4 patches, which each average 200+ MB, so, if ya think about it, its about right.

30 hrs??? the time can sometimes be off. it may take atleast 1 to 2 hours to patch everything.

btw. what is your connection speed.

4/mbit down 1 mbit up.

I'm thinking now that maybe i made a installation mistake. Before i installed the cd's i used the updater file from the ftp server. With this it seems to be doing a complete remote installation.

this took too long, so after that i downloaded the cd's. Now it looks like that after installation of these cd's it still runs the updater file without noticing my current installaiton. but i'm not sure about that.

Also, if it start at 30 hours, it may just drop down easy, Like it hasn'tconfigured your settings.:)

That might be right. To be sure, I'd probably burn the DL'ed files over to CDs. Then erase anything cityofheroes on your comp. Make sure that the updater hasn't created some other directory as you game directory. If you ran the updater file first, it might have made a folder somewhere other than where you installed the files and it's trying to DL the complete game to there.

ok i deinstalled the game, removed some registry keys and deleted the directory it was installed in.

Now i've reinstalled it, and instead of 1 gig it tells me now it needs to download like 380mb. Thats saves me up 620 mb :)

Still at this speed, (its downloading with 8k p/s!) it takes me 12 hours before i can play :(...

Is there any way to download the patches of a ftp server for example, so i can get online faster? :) I'm so willing to start playing now lol :P

Those of us on dial up sure wish we could do it that way, but no the patches aren't set aside anywhere, you'll just have to DL the patch or find someone to send you a burnt copy fo teh fully updated game.

Its really up to you... but if you're into RP and would a good chance at gettin' on a Role Playing Super group then you might want to try Virtue server, which is where most of us on the forums have our main characters.
