Battlefield 2 is to what Koensegg (fastest car in the world.:D) is to Automobiles.
Yesterday, The BattleField 2 demo was released, and If anyone here is a real gamer, at all, whether it be Mmo's, FPS, Car games, FLying Games, Boat games, Commanding games, I don't care, You'll love this game, I think I have to say, that it is without a doubt, my favorite game ever, The ground based combat, is extremely tight, and no longer hard to find people, etc, Its more of a half life 2 ground based combat, The map resizing is Great! If your on a 16 or below server, they make it smaller, less checkpoints, and No airfields, therefore, Great shootemup mayehm (you can also adjust, and make it, Small,Medium,Large.) I played this game today, for 10 hours, Yes, 10, hours, And i will probably play LONGER! My computer can handle this game on medium with no problems, and it still looks beautiful, and my brothers rig can handle it at HIGH, at 1600x1200 resolution, yes, 1600x1200! Believe it or not, This chapter of the battlefield trilogy Is less laggy than 1942 on my computer! Talk about optimizing coding!
Ea hit this one out of the ballpark, and even if they are tyrants of the game industries, You cannot discriminate against such great games as these.
Here are a few links to the downloads.

I hope you guys give it a try, It is a 560 ish megabyte download, and it took me 24 minutes from 3dGamers (yay for going under fileplanets wing!) at 300kps, I would reccomend 3dgamers link, because its a unknown website at the moment, but its got a heart (and servers) of gold.:)

I was actually downloading it anyway. Odd that we both got it from the same site though....
It's not bad, what little I've tried of it so far. I wish they had a more urban map in the demo though. Those are the ones I'm really looking forward to.

Not to contradict you guys, but I'm very unimpressed. It seems to me that the actual gameplay is just more of the same with more beauty added to the screen.
I'm actually disappointed with the game as a whole. Especially the menus, which suffer from the same lag lockups as the very first Battlefield games. It's something they've yet to fix in any of them in any way, shape, form, or fashion. Quite frankly, I'm not going to buy the game. I just don't feel like fighting a server screen every time I want to play the game which doesn't look that much improved. It's the same with every other Battlefield title, which is why I've never bought any of them. It's not my internet connection, I connect to everything else just fine. It's not my computer, when I DID get in-game I maintained a steady framerate with no graphical problems. It's simply the developers creating a lag-ridden game menu, and never fixing it. Counter-Strike: Source is a much more resource-hungry program, and it's menus respond just fine when I play the game. But, even the very first Battlefield's show these laggy signs when navigating the menus, especially the server menus.
Like I said, overall I'm a little disappointed. There's even some things about this title that I actually miss from the older titles. O_o

I personally think that the 16 player sized is pretty urban, But I still want my Basrah's Edge from desert combat.:P

Hmm, Sucks for you, because that never happens to me, ohh well. The game is immensively improved, but I can see you don't care to take the time to try to play it. Also, My friend who has a 2.4 ghz 512 mb ati 9600, he can play it without that lag you speak of.

Actually, I DID TRY. Keyword there being try. I got in-game one time, and as far as I could tell that time there wasn't much change. The rest of the hour and a half was spent trying to navigate the game menus. Thus, the reason I'm nnot picking up the title. I wouldn't take the time to down it if I hadn't actually tried it..
The lag in the menus has been there since the first Battlefield game I borrowed and installed on my computer.. Battlefield Vietnam was actually totally unplayable online for me. Like I said, CS:S does fine, and you and I both know the resources it takes up are far in excess of what the Battlefield titles use.

But do you not like the gameplay? I mean, Lets see
1) Physics-Yep, great driving and gameplay
2)Funnity-Yes, I have loads of fun!
3)Cool cars- Hell yes, I want my DPV! (desert patro-BUGGY!:P)
4)good shooter elements-This is how counter strike source should play, the weapons are innacurate at a distance, for example, the mp5 if your even 30 feet away and you full auto, expect to hit him around 12 times out of 30!
5)The commander elements, this is just a gape of RTS, And you are saying this isn't new huh? Tell me, since when have you been able to call artillery in?
6)The good Ai! These bots are good, they take cover, they shoot back, they drive vehicles, and most of all, the defrib you in the chest when your down, Ohh wait, thats also not new!
All im saying is, I disagree with everything you are saying, I have no menu lag, and i like this game more than half life 2, and alot more than counter strike source, I like the weapons more, I like the shooter elements, i like the whole package.

1. The physics are much more advanced and enjoyable in CS:S, however.
2. I can have fun talking to Ice over AIM.
3. I can have fun playing CS:S (more often than not, though, the inherent flaws of the game server to kill any fun I might be having).
4. Cars are neat, and the jets are really cool, but I opt for a more futuristic FPS when I have a craving for vehicular manslaughter(Unreal Tournament and Tribes come to mind).
5. The shooter elements are good, though a little too online CoD for me (don't get me wrong.. Singleplayer CoD was probably the best ride I've ever been on in an FPS, challenged only by HL2... But CoD multiplayer is a bunnyhopping sprayfest).
6. The commander elements are cool, but yet again, I opt for a more futuristic FPS(Tribes, namely) when concerning this feature.
7. I'm also pretty sure the fact that you can actually call a medic after going down is new.. A system of which looks to be taken from the newer Delta Force games.

The Battlefield series were borrowing from Tribes since the very beginning, but now, it seems like Battlefield 2 is everything Tribes Vengeance should have been.
Im definitely downloading this baby!
Btw, Mahaf, i cant believe the menus are more important to you than the game itself. There must be some other reason too?
Edit:
Tark, there was a commander mode in Tribes 2, but it was very rarely used.
Mahaf, you could call a medic after falling in Enemy Territory too. Im guessing they took alot from that game, since it was so popular.

Well, when the menus keep me away from the actual game, I have no choice but to consider them more importantly in my review of the game. :grr:

You know, it could be because of your hard drive (too few rotations per minute), or the motherboard (as a bottleneck)...

1-While they may be more advanced, I dont like being shot in the head from 600 feet away with a mp5.
2-Yes, you can have fun on aim! Aha! Why even bother with games! :sarcasm:
3-Yes, you can have fun playing CS:S but you can also have fun in this!
4-You haven't even tried a desert patrol vehicle, have you? The oversteer they give is so much fun, you do a flick on the dirt with it, upset the weight distribution and then you can powerslide around corners!!! That is very much fun!
5-Personally, Every fight i've been in, Nobody bunny hops, That screws up your aim far too much. Besides, what is wrong with COD, it was GREAT!
6-Then why even bother commenting if you don't even like current day games, wait, you play CS:S! WHole saying, dont say anything if you dont got nothin nice to say.
7-new, old, whatever, it just plain ol kicks ass, plus the new "knife" Is the defriulator, theres nothing like getting on a enemy sniper, shouting clear and zapping that poor guys ass to hell.

Yes, it is that bad.. I'm doubtful it's either of these things, as I've placed MUCH, MUCH more stress on my computer, and it has performed exceptionally well. Playing Half-Life 2 while listening to MP3s and having Mozilla Firefox going, for instance, causes very minor differences in my gameplay, even during explosions where the engine has 20 different items being acted upon at one time. Here, I have nothing going at all, and it will just stop doing anything at all. I can't even sort the servers by ping.

Well, your Hl2 example would mean you have alot of ram. Tell me, how long does it take for levels to load in most games for you? A few minutes? A few seconds? That could be significant.

In regards to the last thing I have quoted- take your own advice. I've not attacked you nor talked negatively towards you in any way. I was simply stating my opinion on the game, and it happened to differ from yours. To say that I should keep my mouth shut if I feel the game isn't great is not right, and is grounds for causing a "fanboy" argument, though I don't have the time, energy, or the will to start one.
In the short amount of time I did get to play, I tried the DPV and various other vehicles. Like I said, I wouldn't even bother posting here if I had not actually played at all.
I don't like being shot in the head by an MP5 either, but I don't particularly like CS:S(other than the havok engine, which will be included in DoD:S AND Auto Assault, YAY!). See this (http://www.cohguru.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1189) thread in the Paragon's Party Place section of the boards for my (sarcastic) thoughts on CS:S.
I wasn't saying everyone hops, but the encounters just FEEL like CoD. I dunno why, it may be just the feeling I get from not liking neither online play.
EDIT- For Sheld0n, when I DID actually get a connection to the server and get loading (for the first time, which meant I also had to configure shaders), it took about 40 seconds total. I would estimate that the time it takes to load without configuring shaders would be around 25-30 seconds.
Another thing, I'm also getting random "Failed to connect to server" errors, though my connection is absolutely fine. O_o

So ive been playing for a few days now. My menus are unusually laggy too, but not enough to discourage me from playing. I mostly fight as special forces and so far i had a blast! :shinner:
Seriously, its really fun to get behind the enemy lines and destroy their altillery, radars etc. Too bad i dont get any points for it tho (maybe id get them if i was ordered to do it?).
Flying the chopper is really cool too, i just wish my joystick worked with the game, so i wouldnt have to resort to using the keyboard and the mouse. The funny thing is, i trained driving a chopper for months on Flight Simulator 2k4 with a joystick, just for this game.
The planes would probably be cool too, if their engines didnt stop working every few seconds...
With all these glitches and annoyances, plus the lag, and the frustration from being repeatedly killed without a chance to hit back, you'd think i'd hate this game, but i dont. And even i cant explain it. Its just fun, somehow. :p

This demo is awesome, I've been playing it for hours upon hours already. I like being either Special Forces (C4 is so much fun) , Medic (tons of points to get playing as a medic, almost come out as #1 on the server just because of those points), anti-tank (using the rocket on people is fun), or support (spray and pray).
Some things I've done/would like to accomplish in this demo:
I put C4 on the ground and had an enemy tank roll over it, I just watched and blew them up
I want to put C4 on a plane/helicopter and watch them fly off for a bit, then BOOM
Snipe someone out of a BUGGY
anti-tank rocket a helicopter
actually be able to fly
Also, I do get those menu problems as well. Mostly on the server list page, I just put on a good amount of filters and it has lagged less due to less servers being listed I guess.
Another thing, anyone have problems binding certain keys in controls? I can't seem to bind any of my mouse buttons at all, which would help a ton for flying. Some of the pilots I've seen in this demo are INSANE, a good helicopter pilot causes all sorts of hell for the opposing team. :)

Well today was pretty laggy for me, so i sat in the commander mode mostly, and thats lots of fun too!
Timing those altilery strikes is the trickiest for me, to get them off before the enemy leaves the area (you'd think out of boredom) :grr:
About putting the C4 on a plane and waiting, i did that. :chuckle:
Its great, one thing i know is i wouldnt want to be on the other side of the remote. :p
What i'd like to try is putting a few bombs on different planes and getting multiple kills when people sit in them.
Also, i wish they made planting them on occupied tanks a little easier. Right now i either get ran over or shot when i want to get out of the explosion radius...
Ive found out engineer is an awesome class for the commander. He can fix stuff when it gets broken, plant mines and overall, hes great at defending the base. When i played as an engineer commander today, it kinda felt like watching Home Alone. :D
I didnt try support yet, it sounds like fun, gonna have to check it out next time i play.
I think that even without the joystick, im decent at flying a chopper. All you really need to do is understand the principle. What i need tho is to work on my aim with the torpedoes, i dont think i ever killed anyone with a chopper yet, lol.

LOL, I always just put 2 C4's on the tank and just suicide it if I feel like he found me. I don't like wasting C4's, and a dead tank with me respawning 15 seconds later is more useful to my team.
Oh yeah, just a bit ago, I went to the base east of the river fortification outpost and laid down all of my C4s around the main building. 4 kills, no teamkills, that was so sweet lol.
Hmmm... Never tried commander, don't think I'd like it though. I'm more into joining up with a squad and just following around the leader hehe.
Another thing I found that was cool, have you tried sniper yet? If you press q and click the enemy spotted or whatever, it'll put a little red icon on the map, I think the rest of the team can see this too. It's like a UAV.
BF2 is sweeeet! :)

I still compete in a BF42 ladder with a 8v8 CTF team. So to say the least, im a BF fan, but I'm not keeping my hopes up to high for this one. I haven't downloaded the demo yet, as I've been kind of busy, and haven't taken the time to deal with fileplanet.
I can only say that I hope this game isn't a GIANT letdown like BF:V was. BF:V was buggy, laggy, and the gameplay wasn't worth the agrevation. If it's another BF:V I'm going to stick to CS:S, but I get sick of the kiddie hackers in CS, so we'll see.
And Mahaf, if you want, I can try and help you to see if its your machine causing the menu problems. I totally understand your frustration with the game if the menu's make it practically unplayable for you. Just let me know.
