As some of you might know, I spent over 6 months with a computer problem that prevented me from gaming. Turned out it was a bad RAM chip the whole time.
This problem has now returned. What I'd like to know: Is there a possibility that there's something with my computer that's messing up the RAM? I dunno, maybe it's overloading it or something? I'm computer-stupid, so I really can't figure this crap out myself.
I've got a...
AMD Athalon XP 2200+, 1.8GHZ
768 RAM
NVidia GeForce FX 5500
IF you need any more information, go ahead and ask.

Motherboard might have bad RAM handling, post what you've got.

What kind of ram are you getting? Alot of the cheaper stuff, off brand stuff breaks alot.

Tark, my boy: I have not a clue. When my last chip went blooie, I got a replacment from Best Buy. Matter of fact, I think it was the exact same chip.
Hmm. Can I get some suggestions on a good replacement. It's a 256 btw.

Again!? :)
Pull the suspect Ram out, see if it makes any difference (make sure it's not the only chip in there tho, computer won't work with No ram)
Let me know after that.

That may not be so smart, Buying ram that has already Blown for you? O_o
lets see, I'll reccomend some for you!:)
And honestly, If you can afford it, get the best, some Corsair, I've had a 512 chip in our old computer for 8 years, And actually, I got that off ebay, which ... is suprising, We had trouble playing Anarchy Online, so my brother bought some more ram, and i love corsair, so we have had it... 4 years, but nonetheless, they rock!
If you can afford 92 dollars, new egg is having a sale, 2 512 mb Corsair sticks for 92 dollars, you would get increased load times, etc!:)
Corsair, The real Dependable memory. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145526)

Tark's right here, Corsair, or Kingston (sometimes) SHOULD be the only RAM you'll ever need to buy once...but you REALLY have to make sure it's compatible for your motherboard...

Gratis all. I'm gonna lug this thing over to a buddy on Wedsday to see if what I think is true.
Also, I get booted off IE more this time around, so maybe it's not the 256 again, maybe the 512 just went on this one. I'll let you know more after Wedsday.

So, how do I find out if the Corsair RAM Tark mentioned will go with my computer or not?

Some places you order it from, if you tell them your chipset will make sure you have compatable ram. How do you tell your chipset?
Download AIDA32

And it will tell you.
