I feel so sorry for these guys. I'm not sure if everyone here is aware - but SOE are introducing a "Combat Patch" which is pretty muc overhauling the entire game. Apparently subscribers are leaving in droves.

Players of a MMORPG should never have to put together something like this (http://www.swgpetition.com/).

Well, the HAM system sucks too, but I guess they're more comfortable with the suckage they know than the suckage they don't.

Sad either way, but any time you hear about SWG it's a horror story or a tragedy. I don't know why people play it any more.

Oh.
Man.

Everytime someone complains about CoH we can at least say It's better than SWG! *hugs her CoH*

No.. I made a promise to some friends that should I ever get some extra cash I'd probably get SWG, but if WoW ever seemed more appealing I'd go with it. Was looking better even before this after seeing how many of my friends actually got it.. now it's just been pushed way up over SWG.. >>

This game is so indescribably cute. I'd like to see Darknesse join Puzzle Pirates, just so I could dare him to Darkitty-Darkify this game. I bet he couldn't. ;)

I played SWG for a month and a half.

I had 1 1/2 left and I didn't use it. What's that say aout SWG?

I started playing 2 weeks after it came out btw. So yeah, it sucked.

And then I hear all this crap about jedis and what not and now this and am just so glad I switched from SWGer to a COH Forum Whore during that time.

Oh please, I have you beat. I was a dumb **** and pre-paid for a year when it came out. I don't even think I made it to 6 months before I stopped playing. Didn't even bother to sign on the last months my account was active. Didn't see the point.

So yeah, I threw away six months worth of a subscription...that tells you how much I hated the friggin game after awhile.

The SWG combat upgrade has been in place over a month now. I'm not privy to SOE's numbers, but as I said in this thread (http://www.cohguru.com/forum/showthread.php?t=790), of my friends who still play SWG, they say they love the new system. In fact, it sort of creating a resurgence of interest as they got to play around with it and figure out a new way to play the game. I suspect most of the folks who are up in arms and leaving SWG over the combat upgrade are doing so because they're probably too lazy to take the time to figure it out.

Different strokes for different folks. All I know is that a massive game overhaul is a very bad thing for a MMORPG, as it nearly always leads to a mass exodus of players to something else. I doubt that people who are prepared to make a website like that are too lazy to work with a system - if anything they care enough about the game to put up with a system they hate in the hope there's a light at the end of the tunnel. To me that's anything but lazy.

Sounds similar to CoH re-balancing their whole game for PvP when that was the one thing they, and a lot of people here, said they would NEVER do.....

Don't get me wrong, I feel Sony totally dropped the ball on SWG from the start. It never should have been placed in the Timeline it was if they were seriously going to put Jedi into it, but they thought they had to link to the movies for anyone to play.....ummmmm, BIG mistake.

However, I'll give them credit for actually trying to fix a game that was seriously broke.

Whats the difference from logging in there and finding out you have to fight a totally different way from logging in here and seeing that half your abilities have been "tweaked" so the character I left is no longer the character I've come back to?

The difference is CoH is spreading out their nerfs over a period of time and not hitting you all at once so you can get used to it and the Diehard "CoH NEVER does anything wrong" types can keep their sanity.

Think about it...if CoH suddenly dumped all their "PvP" tweaks at you at one time, you'd be just as upset as the SWG people were. That was another classic Sony screw up, but what real choice did they have? Their game was FUBAR and they had to do something....

Just makes me laugh at how many people have blown off the PvP nerfs in CoH and never called the DEV's to task over them screwing with PvE. I remember so many threads over that subject and how many people were so sure it would be balanced seperately. Makes you wonder where the outrage is over that....

Actually, the fact that the whole thing is coming all at once and not in small changes is the whole problem. Small changes can continue to be changed to ensure the effect is minimal. Redesigning the whole system effects everyone, and there's no way you can balance it all before release.

I had some friends recently come over from SWG, and they said the combat upgrade basically "borrowed" elements from COH and EQ2's styles of combat.

I have also heard the SWG players are leaving in droves (three of my friends, all of whom had played SWG since beta, switched to COH almost entirely because of the CU patch).

But don't forget, there are plenty of people out there who would much rather spend the time and effort complaining about something rather then spend the time and effort doing it.

Puh-Leeze. You and I both know only one of them left because of the CU. The other two 'sheep' just came along because they have to do whatever he does.

I was playing a bounty hunter in SWG when the combat upgrade came out. I logged in after downloading the patch, and I no longer had the skill to use the three weapons that I had been using for weeks. I cancelled that day and returned to CoH.
